ECC Men's Basketball Report - Week 13

Player of the Week
Willie Kondrat, D'Youville (Gr, G/F - Brooklyn, N.Y.)
Kondrat had an incredible performance, scoring 31 points and adding 14 rebounds, three assists, and three steals against conference foe Roberts Wesleyan on February 11. His efforts helped lead the Saints to victory defeating the Redhawks, 74-68. Kondrat shot 50 percent (10-for-20) and 66.7 percent from three-point range (4-for-6) in the win. 

Defensive Player of the Week
Hartnel Haye, Dist. Columbia (So, F - Camden, N.J.)
Haye averaged 12.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game in a 2-0 week for the Firebirds. He also averaged 10.5 points per game. In the Firebirds' win over Molloy, he pulled a season-high 15 rebounds, with two steals and a block, while adding 17 points.

Rookie of the Week
Kyle Pulliam, St. Thomas Aquinas (Fr, G - Silver Spring, Md.)
Pulliam recorded 26 points, six rebounds, and a steal in STAC's road victory at Mercy. The freshman guard shot 70 percent from the field (7-for-10), 75 percent from three (6-for-8), and 100 percent from the foul line (6-for-6).


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Jayden Dewaal, Mercy (Jr, F - Toronto, Ontario)
Dewaal averaged 13.0 points per game and a team-high 17.0 rebounds (9.5 defensive) and 2.0 blocks per game as Mercy went 1-1 on the week. The junior opened the week with a team-high 20 points and a game-high 23 rebounds and three blocks against STAC on Wednesday. The forward ended the week with six points and 11 rebounds in the win over Bridgeport on Saturday.

Sunnie Diamond, Queens (So, G - Hiram, Ga.)
Diamond averaged 23.0 points on 51.5% shooting, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals, and 1.5 blocks as the sophomore tallied 46 points, 13 rebounds, six steals, and three blocks on the week. Diamond began the week matching a career-high 24 points on 62.5% shooting with five rebounds, three steals, and two blocks against Staten Island. The Georgia native concluded the week recording a team-high 22 points with eight rebounds, three steals, and one block against District of Columbia at home on Saturday afternoon.

Jahmir Marable-Williams, Dist. Columbia (Sr, G - Philadelphia, Pa.)
Marable-Williams was all over the stat sheets, averaging 14.0 points, 7.5 assists, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game in a 2-0 week. In the win over Molloy, he posted 13 points, eight assists, and four rebounds and in the win over Queens, he had 14 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and two steals. He also shot at 52.6 percent from the field on the week.

Chris Velasquez, Staten Island (Sr, G - Staten Island, N.Y.)

Velasquez scored a career-high 26 points on 11-18 shooting in Wednesday's win over Queens to go along with 6 rebounds and 2 assists. After another solid 15-point scoring performance against Molloy on Saturday, he finished the week averaging 20.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2 assists as the Dolphins moved closer to securing their first playoff berth as a Division II program.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: The Wildcats (16-7, 9-4 ECC) posted an 88-65 win over Roberts Wesleyan in its lone game last week. Daemen has won four straight and 11 of its last 12 games. The Wildcats made their first 10 three-pointers during the win over RWU and finished 15-of-22 for the game. Junior Andrew Mason (Webster, N.Y.) has made 64 three-pointers on the year and is the first Daemen player to make 60 or more triples in a year since current assistant coach Jeff Redband made 100 in 2019-20. Mason closed out last week ranked third among all Division II players in three-point field goal percentage (.489), while redshirt senior Joey Atkins (Watervliet, N.Y.) ranked sixth nationally in total blocks (56). Atkins has totaled the most blocks in a season by a Daemen players since Gerald Beverly posted 110 rejections in 2014-15. Daemen hosts league-leading Saint Thomas Aquinas (Feb. 17) and Mercy (Feb. 19) this weekend.

District of Columbia: The Firebirds went 2-0 on the week defeating both Molloy and Queens and now sit in fourth in the conference standings. Their final two games of the regular season will be hosted at home with them welcoming the College of Staten Island next Saturday (Feb 18) at 1:00 p.m.

D'Youville: No team notes submitted.

Mercy: The Mercy College men's basketball team went 1-1 on the week with a win over Bridgeport and a loss to STAC. The Mavericks were led by junior Jayden Dewaal who averaged a double-double. Mercy resumes action on Friday when they play at D'Youville at 8 p.m.

Molloy: The Lions went 1-1 on the week, falling on the road at UDC during the week before topping Staten Island at home to end the week. Molloy will be off this week and will wrap up the regular season at Mercy (Feb. 22) and home against STAC (Feb. 25).

Queens: The Knights went 0-2 on the week falling to Staten Island and UDC. Sunnie Diamond averaged 23.0 points on 51.5% shooting, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals, and 1.5 block. Queens opens a three-game road stand beginning with non-conference action against Wilmington on Wednesday before traveling to Rochester against Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday in ECC action

Roberts Wesleyan: Roberts dropped two games last week with losses to Daemen and D'Youville. The Redhawks will host Queens on Saturday for their final home game of the regular season.

Staten Island: The Dolphins opened a 1-1 week on Wednesday with a win over Queens behind a career-high 26 points from senior Chris Velasquez. The Dolphins then suffered a loss to Molloy on Saturday, but they remain in control of their own destiny in the East Coast Conference playoff hunt.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Basketball team (21-3, 12-0 ECC) won their lone contest of the week, 81-63 at Mercy. STAC will next be in action on February 17 at Daemen (7:30 p.m.) and February 19 at D'Youville (3:00 p.m.).
