ECC Men's Basketball Report - Week Seven

	Player of the Week Jamal Barnes, St. Thomas Aquinas (Jr, G - Temple Hills, Md.) Barnes averaged 17.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.5 steals per game in the Spartans' last two contests, both wins. The junior guard recorded 18 points, two rebounds, three assists, and two steals against Saint Rose, before posting a 16-point, two-rebound, and one-steal effort at Adelphi. He also shot 55.0 percent from the field (11-for-20) and 62.5 percent from three (10-for-16) over the two non-conference matchups.
	Defensive Player of the Week Joey Atkins, Daemen (Sr, G/F - Watervliet, N.Y.) Atkins helped Daemen limit its two opponents to 43 percent shooting (45-for-106) and 59.5 points over two games. He totaled 15 points, eight rebounds (7 defensive), two blocks, and two steals in a six-point loss to regionally-ranked Pace. Atkins averaged 5.5 rebounds (4.5 defensive), 2.0 blocks, and 2.0 steals over the two games.
	Rookie of the Week James Patterson, St. Thomas Aquinas (Fr, F - Richmond, Va.) Patterson averaged 9.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in the Spartans' last two contests. The freshman forward recorded 10 points and seven rebounds against Saint Rose, before posting a nine-point and five-rebound effort at Adelphi.

ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Michael Aiken, Dist. Columbia (So, G - Washington, D.C.)
Aiken averaged 17 points over two games on 60 percent shooting from the field and 66.7 percent shooting from behind the arc (6-for-9 from downtown). He also averaged 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game. In the game against Frostburg State, he scored a game-high of 20 points, five assists, and made a steal.

Darren Fergus, Molloy (So, G - Freeport, N.Y.)
Fergus netted a team-high 18 points against New Haven while shooting 50 percent from the field. This is the seventh time on the campaign the sophomore shot 50 percent or better in a contest.

Dion Herrington, Queens (Jr, G - Englewood, N.J.)
Herrington led the offense with 11 points, five assists, and five rebounds against Saint Michaels on Dec. 19. The senior shot 50 percent (5-for-10) from the field while adding a steal and block on the evening.

Jahmir Marable-Williams, Dist. Columbia (Sr, G - Philadelphia, Pa.)
Marable-Williams averaged a double-double over two games. He averaged 11.5 points, 10.5 assists, and 4.0 rebounds per game. In the game against Holy Family, he posted 11 assists, nine points, and six rebounds while making a steal. He posted a double-double in the game against Frostburg State with 14 points and 10 assists.

ECC Team Notes

	Daemen: Daemen has won three of its last four games and stands at 6-6 overall and 1-3 in the ECC. The Wildcats suffered a 66-60 loss at regionally-ranked Pace on Dec. 19 and posted a 76-53 win over Cheyney on Dec. 31. Six of Daemen's 12 games have been decided by six points or less and the Wildcats are 1-5 in those games. Senior Nick MacDonald (Amherst, N.Y.) has scored in double figures in 11 of the 12 games and has made at least one three-pointer in all 12 games. Daemen has played eight of its first 12 games at Lumsden Gymnasium. The Wildcats are 85-18 (.825) at home during Daemen's NCAA Division II era (2015-present). The Wildcats play at regionally-ranked Franklin Pierce (1/2) and return to conference play at Staten Island (1/6) this week.
	District of Columbia: UDC dropped two games by three points or less, both of which came down to the final seconds. They will head into conference play for their next game hosting D'Youville on January 6th.

	Mercy: The Mercy College men's basketball team went 0-1 on the week with a loss at Southern Connecticut State. The Mavericks were led by graduate student Sean Smith Jr. who had a team-high 13 points. Mercy resumes action on Friday, January 6th when they host Roberts Wesleyan at 7 p.m.
	Molloy: The Lions returned to the court after a 12-day break traveling to New Haven Thursday, December 29, Molloy fell to the Chargers, 97-72. Molloy now sits at 4-10 overall and will return to conference play Wednesday, January 4th to take on Queens.
	Queens: Following a three-week break, the Knights return to action as they open ECC play against Molloy University on Wednesday (Jan. 4) evening before hitting the road in non-conference play against Cheyney University Saturday (Jan. 7) afternoon.

	St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Basketball team (12-2, 4-0 ECC) went 2-0 over holiday break, winning contests against Saint Rose (109-74) and Adelphi (80-78). STAC will next be in action on January 4 (3:00 p.m.) vs. Jefferson and January 8 (3:00 p.m.) vs. Roberts Wesleyan.
