ECC Men's Basketball Report - Week Three

Player of the Week
Antonio Vendola, St. Thomas Aquinas (Sr, G - Fernandina Beach, Fla.)
Vendola averaged 19.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in two contests last week. The red-shirt senior guard recorded 16 points, three rebounds, and two assists at Post, before posting a 23-point, two-rebound, two-assist effort at Goldey-Beacom.

Defensive Player of the Week
Jayden Dewaal, Mercy (Jr, F - Toronto, Ontario)
Dewaal averaged 6.0 points, a team-high 10.0 rebounds and a team-high 2.5 blocks per game as Mercy went 1-1 on the week. The junior opened the week with a double-double by way of 12 points and 12 rebounds to go along with a game-high five blocks in the Mavericks' first win over Bridgeport since 2013 on Tuesday. The forward ended the week with a team-high-tying eight rebounds with one steal at Caldwell on Sunday.

Rookie of the Week
Sean Conroy, Mercy (Fr, G - Staten Island, N.Y.)
Conroy averaged 7.0 points per game on 50.0 percent shooting from the floor and 57.1 percent shooting from downtown. The freshman netted six points in the Mavericks' first win over Bridgeport since 2013 on Tuesday. The guard ended the week with eight points at Caldwell on Sunday.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Juanye Colon, Dist. Columbia (Gr, G - Acworth, Ga.)
Colon led the Firebirds' offense, scoring 20+ points in all three games on the week to average 22.3 points per game. He shot at 45.2 percent from the three point line, knocking down a total of 14 threes on the week. He also shot at 51.1 percent from the field and grabbed 3.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game. He scored a season and game-high 26 points in the game against Lincoln, where he shot 60 percent from behind the arc. In the game against Bluefield, he had 20 points, five rebounds, and two steals.

Sunnie Diamond, Queens (So, G - Hiram, Ga.)
Diamond stole the show as the sophomore notched a triple-double of 18 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists in the comeback victory over Alliance Wednesday evening. Diamond posted the first triple-double by a Knight since the 15-16 season. The sophomore finished the week averaging 15.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 5.5 assists.

Darren Fergus, Molloy (So, G - Freeport, N.Y.)
Fergus led the Lions with 29 points against SCSU in Molloy's lone game last week. The sophomore shot nearly 50 percent in the contest while adding four rebounds, three steals, and one assist.

Nick MacDonald, Daemen (Sr, G - Amherst, N.Y.)
Shot 50-percent (13-26) from the field and averaged 17.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals in a 1-1 week. Made 4-of-8 three pointers and scored a career-high 20 points in an 82-60 loss at Slippery Rock and capped the week with 15 points, six rebounds, and three steals in a 76-65 win over Alliance.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: Daemen: Daemen (3-2, 0-0 ECC) went 1-1 last week. The Wildcats suffered an 82-60 loss at Slippery Rock and capped the week with a 76-65 win over Alliance at Daemen. The Wildcats have now won 12 straight games against CACC teams at Lumsden Gymnasium. Junior forward Justin Hemphill (Buffalo, N.Y.) recorded his first career double-double (13 pts, 11 rebs) in the win over Alliance. The Wildcats were ranked fourth in the second D2SIDA East Region poll of the season. Daemen opens conference play this weekend when they host Molloy (12/2) and Queens (12/4).

District of Columbia: UDC went 1-2 on the week picking up a win against Bowie State for the first time ever on their home court on Wednesday. They then suffered two heartbreaking one point losses to Lincoln and Bluefield State over the weekend. This upcoming week they will open up conference play hosting STAC on Wednesday and then heading to N.Y on the weekend to match up against Mercy

D'Youville: No team notes submitted.

Mercy: The Mercy College men's basketball team went 1-1 on the week with a win over Bridgeport and a loss to Caldwell. The win over Bridgeport was the program's first since 2013. Mercy was led by graduate student Sean Smith Jr. who averaged a team-high 16.0 points per game. Mercy resumes action on Wednesday when they play at Staten Island at 7:30 p.m.

Molloy: Molloy fell to SCSU on Wednesday (Nov. 22), 83-60, in the team's lone game of the week to sit a 0-6. The Lions return to action tonight (Nov. 28) against Assumption before opening league play this weekend at Daemen (Dec. 2) and D'Youville (Dec. 4).

Queens: The Knights went 1-1 on the week as Sunnie Diamond tallied a triple-double to help Queens defeat Alliance before the Thanksgiving break. Queens opens ECC play in Buffalo as they match up against D'Youville (Dec. 2) on Friday and conclude the upstate trip against Daemen on Sunday (Dec. 4)

Roberts Wesleyan: Roberts Wesleyan dropped its home opener to Edinboro, 87-77. The Redhawks will host Alliance University on Monday at 6 p.m.

Staten Island: The Dolphins defeated St. Michael's College on Tuesday and fell to Pace University on Sunday in a 1-1 week. Chris Velasquez hit the game-winning shot for the Dolphins on Tuesday and followed up that performance with 21 points against Pace on Sunday.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Basketball team (5-1) went 2-0 last week, beating Post 83-74 (OT) and Goldey-Beacom 95-70. STAC will next be in action on November 30 (7:30 p.m.) at UDC and December 3 (3:00 p.m.) vs. Staten Island.
