Firebirds Solidify Post-Season Spot after Defeating Queens College 81-73

FLUSHING, N.Y.- The University of the District of Columbia's men's basketball team defeated Queens College 81-73, to secure their spot in the post-season, Saturday afternoon at the Fitzgerald Gymnasium. The Firebirds improve to 8-6 in the league, and currently sits in fourth place, while the Knights fell to 4-9.

Michael Aiken led the Firebirds with 19 points, shooting 50% from the field and going 9-10 from the charity stripe. Jahmir Marable-Williams was all over the stat sheet scoring 15 points while grabbing eight rebounds, seven assists and two steals. Eric Morgan Jr and Nicolaus Kenton aslo scored in the double-figures with 11 and 10 points respectively.

A back and forth affair in the first half, ended in a one-point game in favor of the Knights going into half-time. 

An Aiken trey, just seconds into the second half gave the visiting Firebirds a lead that they would hold onto for the rest of the game to hit double-digit wins on the season. This win surpasses last season's overall record (9-20). UDC now looks to win their final two games of the season at home to secure a hosting spot in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament. 

UDC shot at 45.2% from the field while the Knights shot at 42.2%. The Firebirds also shot at 53.8% from downtown and dominated with points in the paint (36-28).

Up Next, UDC (10-13, 8-6 ECC) is back at home, as they host the College of Staten Island next Saturday (Feb 18) at the E.B Henderson Sports Complex. They will also celebrate their seniors with a tip-off time of 1:00 PM.
