ECC Baseball Report - Week 12

Player of the Week
Gregory DiGiaro, St. Thomas Aquinas (Sr, IF - Staten Island, N.Y.)
DiGiaro hit .526 last week with 10 hits in 19 at-bats. The senior first baseman recorded two doubles and five homers while driving in 18 runs and scoring 10 times. He was also walked six times and was hit by a pitch for a .615 on-base percentage.

Pitcher of the Week
Aaron Dona, St. Thomas Aquinas (Gr, P - Gloversville, N.Y.)
Dona hurled seven scoreless innings to pick up a win in his final regular season start, a 14-1 victory over Queens. The grad-student righty, allowed only three hits and a walk in the game. He also set a new STAC single-season strikeout mark with 104, surpassing former Spartan Frankie Mosciatello's record (94 Ks) in 2017.

Rookie of the Week
Vincent Weigele, Staten Island (Fr, IF - Staten Island, NY)
Weigele hit safely in every game the Dolphins played this week and posted a .476 batting average with seven RBI. Three of his ten hits went for extra bases and he finished the week slugging at .619 with a 1.141 OPS. He also had multiple hits in three separate games and drove in at least one run in five of the six games he played in.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Alex Dzimian, D'Youville (Jr, IF/P - Lakeview, N.Y.)
Dzimian hit .529 (9-for-17) with four doubles, five runs scored, six RBI, and a stolen base in a four-game series split with Staten Island. 

Nolan Giblin, Mercy (Sr, 3B - Syracuse, N.Y.)
Giblin hit a team-high .533 (8-for-15) with six runs, three doubles, one RBI and three stolen bases as Mercy went 3-1 on the week. The senior opened the week going 3-for-4 with three run and three stolen bases in the win over Lincoln on Thursday. The third baseman then went 4-for-8 with three runs and an RBI in the sweep over Lincoln on Friday. Giblin went 1-for-3 with a double on Senior Day on Saturday.

Garrett Scavelli, Molloy (Jr, OF - Franklin Square, N.Y.)
Scavelli extended his hitting streak to 12 games this week, compiling three multi-hit performances two coming against No. 11 Southern New Hampshire. The junior collected five hits in six at bats against the Penmen including a solo home run. To cap the week, Scavelli hit .778, collected seven hits, five runs scored, five RBIs, two doubles, two stolen bases, and one home run while slugging 1.333 and getting on base at a .833 clip.

AJ Vigliotti, Staten Island (So, C - Staten Island, N.Y.)
Vigliotti hit safely in all six games the Dolphins played this week and finished the week with a .579 batting average. He also posted a .737 slugging percentage and a 1.373 OPS. He had a pair of extra-base hits, drove in seven runs, and finished the season leading the conference in batting at .430.

ECC Team Notes

D'Youville: No team notes submitted.

Lincoln: No team notes submitted.

Mercy: The Mercy College baseball team went 3-1 on the week against Lincoln. The Mavericks were led by senior Nolan Giblin who hit a team-high .533 on the week. Mercy resumes action on Thursday in the ECC Championship when they play at Molloy at 12 p.m.

Molloy: Molloy went 2-1 on the week, defeating Lincoln Wednesday, May 3 and splitting a doubleheader with No. 11 SNHU Saturday, May 6. The Lions conclude the regular season 33-15 overall and 19-5 in league play. After winning the regular season, Molloy will host the ECC Championship Thursday, May 11 and be the top seed. li

Queens: The Knights concluded the regular season by splitting their final ECC series against STAC with a 2-0 day on Senior Day in Flushing. With the sweep, head coach Chris Reardon and the Knights tied the Single-Season Program Record for Win by winning their 28th and 29th win of the season. Queens has earned the #3 seed in the East Coast Conference Baseball Tournament set to begin in Uniondale on Thursday (May. 11) afternoon.

Staten Island: The Dolphins opened the week with a pair of single games against STAC and suffered losses on both Monday and Tuesday. They then brought their record for the week to 2-4 with a split of their weekend doubleheader against D'Youville.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball team (23-25, 16-8 ECC) closed its 2023 Regular Season schedule, going 4-2 last week, with two victories over Staten Island (20-10 & 21-6) and a pair of wins against Queens (14-1 & 6-5). STAC returns to action on May 11-13 at the ECC Baseball Tournament, hosted by Molloy University at Mitchel Field.
