ECC Baseball Report - Week Three

Player of the Week
Billy Morris, D'Youville (Fr, IF/P - Lancaster, N.Y.)
Morris was a big contributor with the bat and on the mound last week for the Saints. Offensively, he hit .471 (8-for-17) with three doubles, eight runs scored and four RBI. He also picked up the win on the mound against Dominican. He scattered six hits, gave up one run, and struck out four over 6.0 innings of work in the Saints' 6-2 win. 

Pitcher of the Week
Aaron Dona, St. Thomas Aquinas (Sr, P - Gloversville, N.Y.)
Dona pitched a complete game to earn his second win of the season, an 8-0 shutout of No. 7/10 West Chester. The Gloversville, N.Y. righty threw seven innings while allowing only a hit and two walks while striking out 15.

Rookie of the Week
Christian Rice, Staten Island (Fr, P - Colts Neck, N.J.)
Rice pitched six innings, scattering six hits, and allowing just one unearned run in an 11-strikeout effort against Caldwell University on Sunday. He picked up his first win of the season as the Dolphins went on to beat the Cougars 7-2.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Ethan Hammond, D'Youville (Sr, OF - Oakville, Ontario)
Segarra Hammond recorded a hit in all four D'Youville games last week to finish with a .400 batting average (6-for-15). He also smacked two doubles, scored five runs, drove in two runs, walked five times for an on-base percentage of .550, and stole four bases. 

Nick O'Connor, St. Thomas Aquinas (So, OF/IF - Wantagh, N.Y.)
O'Connor hit a red-hot .545 over four games last week for STAC. Going 6-for-11 at the plate, the Wantagh, N.Y. outfielder recorded a double and three RBI, while scoring four runs.

Chris Peralta, Molloy (Sr, OF - Lynbrook, N.Y.)
Peralta made his 2023 debut over the weekend against Adelphi. The graduate student collected his first home run of the season and drove in two runs in the three-game series against the Panthers. On the week, he hit .500 totaling four hits, two runs scored and two extra-base hits while slugging 1.000.

Ryan Rozinski, Mercy (Jr, P - Middletown, N.J.)
Rozinski tossed six innings of one-hit ball with just one run allowed and five strikeouts to earn a no-decision against Southern Connecticut State on Sunday.

ECC Team Notes

D'Youville: No team notes submitted.

Lincoln: No team notes submitted.

Mercy: The Mercy College baseball team went 0-2 on the week with 7-6 and 13-5 losses to Southern Connecticut State. The Mavericks were led by freshman Niko Sorice who hit a home run and had two RBI. Mercy resumes action on Tuesday when they play at Southern Connecticut State at 3 p.m.

Molloy: The Lions returned to the northeast with a three-game series with Adelphi last week. Molloy went 1-2 on the weekend, falling to the Panthers, 8-4, and 5-3, before triumphing in game three, 7-3. Molloy now sits at 7-3 and will host Felician Tuesday, March 7 for its home-opener, before heading to Boca Raton, Fla. for five games.

Queens: The Knights were off and return to action with five games scheduled on the week. Queens opens with their home opener against Alliance on Thursday afternoon before a four-game series against Goldey-Beacom gets underway Saturday on the road. The series concludes with Sunday DH at home

Staten Island: Baseball concluded their Myrtle Beach trip on Monday with a loss to the University of Bridgeport and dropped three of four games over the weekend to Bloomfield and Caldwell. Ryan Kehoe and Christian Rice gave the Dolphins a pair of solid outings on the mound and freshman Vincent Weigele hit safely in four out of five games.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball team (4-4) went 3-1 in Cary, N.C. by beating both Saint Anselm (5-3) and Augustana (5-3), while splitting a doubleheader with West Chester (8-0 & 7-5). STAC returns to action in Florida against Adelphi (March 10), Post (March 11) and Barry (March 12).
