ECC Baseball Report - Week Nine

Player of the Week
Marc Cisco, Queens (So, INF - Long Island City, N.Y.)
Over six games on the week, Cisco batted .444 with a slugging percentage of .833 with eight hits, two doubles, one triple, one home run, six RBI, nine runs scored, seven walks, and four stolen bases. Against Wilmington, the sophomore fell short of hitting for the cycle going 3-for-3 with three extra bases hits as Queens completed a comeback rally to earn a crucial 9-8 victory Wednesday afternoon. The Long Island City native reached base in all games as he earned a combined seven walks while totaling 15 bases with four extra-base hits. He also executed four double plays on the week.

Pitcher of the Week
Aaron Dona, St. Thomas Aquinas (Gr, P - Gloversville, N.Y.)
Dona earned his fourth win of the season, hurling a complete game shutout for STAC against Molloy in a 1-0, 7-inning victory. The righty went the distance, allowing only two hits and two walks, while sending down 10 Lions hitters via strikeout.

Rookie of the Week
Jorsixt Jimenez, Queens (Fr, OF/P - Queens, N.Y.)
Over six games on the week, Jimenez batted .458 with 11 hits, three doubles, eight RBI, two stolen bases, and seven runs scored as the rookie tallied three multi-hit games to lead the offense. Jimenez tallied two hits with a double and two RBI as Queens earned a crucial 9-8 victory over Wilmington in regional play before a big 4-for-6 performance with two doubles, and two RBI helped Queens complete a comeback rally with a 10-8 victory in game one over Lincoln in extra innings.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Zach Ashline, Mercy (Fr, OF - Colonie, N.Y.)
Ashline hit .500 (7-for-14) with a team-high-tying six RBI to go along with four runs and a triple as Mercy went 3-1 on the week. The freshman went 2-for-4 with a run in the win over Staten Island on Friday. The outfielder then went 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI in the game one win over Staten Island on Saturday. Ashline ended the week going 3-for-5 with a career-high four RBI in the win over Staten Island on Sunday.

Jaden Caballero, Mercy (So, OF - Newburgh, N.Y.)
Caballero hit .474 (9-for-19) with four runs, two RBI, and a team-high four stolen bases as Mercy went 3-1. The sophomore opened the week going 5-for-5 with two runs, an RBI, and two stolen bases in the win over Staten Island on Friday. The outfielder then went 1-for-4 in the game one win over Staten Island on Saturday before ending the week going 3-for-6 with two runs and an RBI in the win over CSI on Sunday.

Gregory DiGiaro, St. Thomas Aquinas (Sr, IF - Staten Island, N.Y.)
DiGiaro hit .462 hit on the week, with six hits in 13 at-bats over five games for STAC. The senior first baseman also recorded a home run, two doubles, four RBI, and five runs scored, while also drawing three walks.

John Esposito, Staten Island (Sr, P - Staten Island, N.Y.)
Esposito pitched another complete game shutout to lead the Dolphins to a victory over Mercy College on Saturday. He pitched nine innings and allowed just five hits as CSI took the win over the Mavericks in extra innings. The complete-game shutout victory is the second in his last two starts and was also his fourth complete game of the season.

ECC Team Notes

D'Youville: No team notes submitted.

Lincoln: No team notes submitted.

Mercy: The Mercy College baseball team went 3-1 on the week against Staten Island. The Mavericks were led by freshman Zach Ashline who hit .500 with a team-high-tying six RBI. Mercy resumes action on Friday when they play at Queens at 3 p.m.

Molloy: The Lions went 3-2 on the week, defeating Queens, 5-3, Monday, April 16 and splitting a four-game series with STAC over the weekend. Molloy now sits at 24-13 overall and 12-4 in conference play, they will begin the week with a non-conference matchup Pace Tuesday, April 18 before traveling to Western New York to begin a four-game series with D'Youville Friday, April 21.

Queens: The Knights went 5-1 on the week including ending the week on a five-game win streak defeating Wilmington in non-conference play before completing a four-game sweep over Lincoln. Queens continues ECC play as they open a four-game series against Mercy beginning on Friday (Apr. 21) afternoon.

Staten Island: The Dolphins played four games against the Mercy College Mavericks this weekend and picked up an extra innings win in game two of Saturday's doubleheader. John Esposito pitched another complete game shutout in the 4-0 CSI victory.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball team (17-17, 11-5 ECC) went 2-3 last week, losing at Saint Rose 14-8, before splitting a four-game series with Molloy (7-6 & 1-0). STAC returns to action on April 19, 22 and 23 for a five-game series with New Haven.
