ECC Baseball Report - Week Four

Player of the Week
Nolan Giblin, Mercy (Sr, 3B - Syracuse, N.Y.)
Giblin hit .500 (7-for-14) with a team-high five RBI in three games this week. The senior went 1-for-4 with a double at Southern Connecticut State on Wednesday. The third baseman then went 5-for-7 with a game-high five RBI along with a run and stolen base in the win over Bridgeport on Friday. Giblin ended the week going 1-for-3 in game one at Bridgeport on Sunday.

Pitcher of the Week
Mike Andreoli, Molloy (Sr, P - Wantagh, N.Y.)
Andreoli was masterful in Molloy's 8-2 victory over Bloomfield. The left hander pitched seven innings allowing one run (none earned) on three hits and struck out 13 while only throwing 85 pitches, to move to 3-0 on the year.

Rookie of the Week
JJ DeVito, Molloy (So, IF/OF - Wantagh, N.Y.)
DeVito continued as the table setter for the Lions this week. The sophomore belted his first career home run and drove in four against Felician while falling a double shy of the cycle. The left fielder drove in a run while collecting two doubles in Molloy's victory over Bloomfield. To cap the week, DeVito hit .333, slugged .722, collected six hits, drove in five, and scored four runs.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

C.J. Cumbo, St. Thomas Aquinas (So, IF - East Meadow, N.Y.)
Cumbo hit .417 (5-for-12) in three Sunshine State games for the Spartans. The sophomore infielder recorded a home run, five RBI, and three runs scored. He also drew a walk and stole two bases on the road trip.

John Esposito, Staten Island (Sr, P - Staten Island, N.Y.)
Esposito picked up the win in Staten Island's 9-8 victory over Caldwell with five scoreless innings out of the bullpen. He scattered six hits and struck out eight over in his appearance. 

Jayson Rodopoulos, Queens (Sr, OF - Scarsdale, N.Y.)
Rodopoulos led the way with three multi-hit games as he batted .400 and slugged .700 with eight hits, three doubles, one home run, five RBI, four runs, and one walk. The senior began the week with a three-hit performance against Alliance before recording two multi-hit games against regional-ranked Goldey-Beacom in the series split.

Ryan Rozinski, Mercy (Jr, P - Middletown, N.J.)
Rozinski tossed five shutout innings with just four hits allowed and two strikeouts to earn the win in a seven-inning game one against Bridgeport on Sunday.

ECC Team Notes

Lincoln: No team notes submitted.

Mercy: The Mercy College baseball team went 2-2 on the week with two wins over Bridgeport. The Mavericks were led by junior Ryan Rozinski who pitched five shutout innings in game one on Sunday to earn the win. Mercy resumes action on Wednesday, March 15th at 3 p.m. against Bloomfield.

Molloy: The Lions went 1-3 on the week and now sit at 8-6 for the 2023 campaign. Molloy will conclude its Boca Raton trip with games against Southern Connecticut Monday (Mar. 13) and Palm Beach Atlantic Tuesday (Mar. 14) before returning home to host Dominican over the weekend.

Queens: The Knights went 3-2 on the week as they earned two victories over regional ranked Goldey-Beacom College. Senior Jayson Rodopoulos led the way batting a team-high .400 with eight hits and five RBIs. Queens stays on the road to begin the week against Felician Tuesday (Mar. 14) afternoon before hosting Bloomfield College for a three-game series on Saturday (Mar. 18) to Sunday (Mar. 19) afternoon.

Staten Island: The Dolphins went 3-1 in a pair of doubleheaders this week against Caldwell University and Dominican University of New York. The Dolphins came from eight runs down to defeat the Cougars in the first game on Wednesday before picking up a sweep against the Chargers on Sunday.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball Team (5-6) went 1-2 on its Florida Spring Break trip, falling to Adelphi (8-7) in extra innings and Barry (6-0), while beating Post (10-6). STAC returns to action, facing Dominican on March 15 (3:30 p.m.) and Jefferson on March 18 (11:00 a.m. & 2:00 p.m.) & March 19 (12:00 p.m. & 3:00 p.m.).
