ECC Baseball Report - Week Five

Player of the Week
Anthony Fontana, Queens (Sr, 1B/DH - Wantagh, N.Y.)
Over the course of a 5-0 week for Queens, Fontana stayed hot for the Knights as the senior went 10-for-16, with nine RBI, one triple, three home runs, five runs scored, and two walks as he batted a scorching .625 with a slugging percentage of 1.313. The Wantagh native recorded three multi-hit games including back-to-back three-hit performances against Bloomfield on Sunday afternoon.

Pitcher of the Week
Liam Pulsipher, Queens (Sr, P - East Moriches, N.Y.)
Pulsipher went 1-0 on the week pitching a season-best of 7.1 innings allowing three hits, one walk, and five strikeouts in a 4-0 shutout victory over Felician University on Thursday. The southpaw entered the game as a reliever and would go on to restrict the bats of Felician to three hits  to earn his second victory of the season and the Knights' first shutout victory over Felician in program history.

Rookie of the Week
Bryce Oliver, Lincoln (Fr, IF - Williamstown, N.J.)
Oliver went 9-for-18 (.500) with 11 runs scored, five RBI, four doubles, three walks, two steals, two hit-by-pitches, and a triple to help the Lions go 2-3 over five games last week. 


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Charlie Cucchiara, Molloy (Sr, P - East Meadow, N.Y.)
In his first home start of the season, Cucchiara threw seven innings allowing one run on three hits and struck out a season-high nine batters to improve to 3-1 on the season.

David Estevez, Lincoln (Fr, P - Philadelphia, Pa.)
Estevez won his first collegiate game vs. Alliance by pitching for season-highs in innings pitched (6.0) and strikeouts (11), giving up a measly two runs and four hits.

Ryan Kehoe, Staten Island (So, P/IF - Staten Island, N.Y.)
Kehoe picked up the win in game two of Friday's doubleheader against Chestnut Hill with a complete game effort. The CSI starter allowed just 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 12 in the Dolphins victory. Kehoe's second victory of the season ties him for the team lead and he now has 33 strikeouts in just 25.1 innings on the year.

Garrett Scavelli, Molloy (Jr, OF - Franklin Square, N.Y.)
Scavelli provided a spark to the Lions' lineup hitting in the two hole. The junior collected four multi-hit games, including a pair of three hit, four RBI performances. To cap the week, the center fielder hit .500 (10 of 20), drove in nine runs, scored seven runs, hit two home runs, swiped three bases, and got on base at a .560 clip while slugging .950.

ECC Team Notes

D'Youville: No team notes submitted.

Lincoln: No team notes submitted.

Mercy: The Mercy College baseball team went 0-3 on the week with losses to Pace. The Mavericks were led by sophomore Scott Scheppy who pitched seven strong innings against the Setters on Friday. Mercy resumes action on Friday when they host Molloy at 3 p.m.

Molloy: Molloy went 4-1 on the week, falling to Southern Connecticut, 15-8, Monday, March 13, but defeated Palm Beach Atlantic, 6-3, Tuesday, March 14, and swept Dominican in a three game series Saturday, March 18 and Sunday, March 19. The Lions now sit at 12-7 on the year and will host New Haven Wednesday, March 22 before opening up conference play against Mercy Friday, March 24.

Queens: The Knights went 5-0 on the week earning a shutout victory over Felician before completing the series sweep over Bloomfield. With a 10-4 record, Queens is off to their best start in program history since the 1998 season. Queens opens the week with a non-conference matchup against Adelphi on Tuesday afternoon before opening ECC play against CSI for a four-game weekend series.

Staten Island: The Dolphins played just two games this week earning a split of Friday afternoon's doubleheader Chestnut Hill College. Michael Kehoe had four hits across the two games, both Domenick Castiglione and AJ Vigliotti homered in game two, and Ryan Kehoe struck out 12 in a complete game victory.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College baseball team (6-9) went 1-3 last week, with a victory against Jefferson (4-1). STAC returns to action on March 22 against Dominican (3:30 p.m.), before heading to Buffalo to open their ECC schedule against D'Youville, March 24-26.
