ECC Baseball Report - Week Eight

Player of the Week
Garrett Scavelli, Molloy (Jr, OF - Franklin Square, N.Y.)
Scavelli was a catalyst for the Molloy offense last week. The junior outfielder collected multi-hit games in three-of-four contests including crossing the plate twice in multiple games. To cap the week, Scavelli hit .500 (7-for-14), drove in seven runs, scored six times, blasted two home runs, and stole three bases while getting on base at a .632 clip and slugging 1.071.

Pitcher of the Week
John Esposito, Staten Island (Sr, P - Staten Island, N.Y.)
Esposito tossed his third complete game of the season in Saturday's win over Alliance University. In seven innings of work, he allowed just four hits, no runs, and struck out 15 batters. Esposito has pitched at least five innings in all of his outings this season and has struck out ten or more in two of his last three starts.

Rookie of the Week
Jorsixt Jimenez, Queens (Fr, OF/P - Queens, N.Y.)
Over four games, Jimenez batted .500 with a slugging percentage of .813 as he recorded eight hits, two doubles, one home run, six RBI, and five runs scored. The rookie recorded three multi-hit games including two three-hit performances in back-to-back games. Jimenez tallied three hits with a double and a home run in the 12-3 victory over Caldwell before recording his second straight three-hit performance with a double and two RBI in the 8-5 victory over Molloy Thursday afternoon in ECC play.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Zach Ashline, Mercy (Fr, OF - Colonie, N.Y.)
Ashline hit a team-high .455 (5-for-11) with two RBI and two runs in three games this week. The freshman went 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI at D'Youville on Thursday. The outfielder ended the week going 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI in the Mavericks' win over D'Youville on Saturday.

Chris Auclair, D'Youville (So, P - Baldwinsville, NY)
In a 5-2 win over Mercy, AuClair allowed one earned run, scattered six hits, and struck out 10 over 8.0 innings of work to move his record to 3-2 on the season. 

Matt Filip, Queens (So, 1B/DH - Maspeth, N.Y.)
Over four games, Filip batted .462 with six hits, a double, six RBI, five walks, and four runs scored. The sophomore reached base in all four games played to go with two straight two-hit performances. Against Caldwell, the Maspeth native recorded two hits to go with a season-high five RBI as Queens won 12-3 before adding his straight game of two hits to go with a RBI as the Knights earned an 8-5 victory over Molloy Thursday afternoon.

Michael Kehoe, Staten Island (So, C - Staten Island, N.Y.)
Kehoe hit safely in all five games the Dolphins played this week and finished the week hitting .526. He posted an OPS of 1.223 and had three multiple-hit games. Behind a pair of three-hit games on Saturday, he finished the week with ten hits in 19 at-bats, two doubles, and four RBI.

ECC Team Notes

D'Youville: No team notes submitted.

Lincoln: No team notes submitted.

Mercy: The Mercy College baseball team went 1-4 on the week with a win over D'Youville and losses to STAC and D'Youville. The Mavericks were led by freshman Zach Ashline who hit a team-high .455 on the week. Mercy resumes action Friday when they play at Staten Island at 3 p.m.

Molloy: The Lions went 3-1 on the week, defeating Staten Island, 4-3, Monday (Apr. 3) and taking two-of three from Queens. Molloy now sits at 21-11 overall and 9-2 in league play. The Lions will wrap up its series with the Knights Monday, April 10 at home before beginnings a four-game series with STAC Friday, April 14 at Mitchel Field.

Queens: The Knights went 2-2 on the week earning a non-conference victory over Caldwell before earning their first over Molloy since the 2019 season as they defeated the Lions 8-5 in ECC Play. Queens will play six games on the week as they conclude the four-game series against the Lions on Monday before returning to non-conference play against Wilmington on Wednesday afternoon at home. The week concludes in Philadelphia as Queens tangles with Lincoln in a four-game series.

Staten Island: Baseball opened the week with a one-run loss to Molloy on Monday before splitting their next four games in non-conference play. On Wednesday, the Dolphins dropped a pair to East Stroudsburg and on Saturday they scored 37 times in two wins over Alliance University.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball team (15-14, 9-3 ECC) went 4-1 last week, taking the series finale at Mercy, 5-1 and three of four games from Lincoln (11-5, 6-4 & 4-2). STAC returns to action on April 12 at Saint Rose, before facing Molloy in a four-game ECC series, April 14-16.
