Molloy Advances to Championship Game for Third-Straight Season

Uniondale, N.Y. - With a 10-3 victory over the third-seeded Knights of Queens College, the top-seeded baseball team advanced to the East Coast Conference title game tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 p.m. from Mitchel Field. This is Molloy's third-straight season in the championship contest and looking to win its third-straight title. The victory improved the Lions to 35-15 on the campaign.

How It Happened

  • The Molloy bats went to work with singles from juniors Garrett Scavelli and Aidan Larkin before a fielding error from the Queens infield loaded the bases. A sacrifice fly to right field from junior Gavin McAlonie helped to put the Lions up, 2-0.
  • In the bottom half of the inning, senior Robby Keane and graduate student Jake McCarthy connected on a double play that kept the Knights off the board.
  • In the second inning, leadoff single from sophomore Tom Lebrecht followed by a stolen base set up junior Matt Yip for an RBI double to the gap in left center.
  • Keane drove in Yip the next at bat with a well-placed single up the middle to put the Lions up 4-0.
  • Singles from Scavelli, Larkin, and McCarthy paired with a second sacrifice fly from McAlonie put the cardinal and white up, 7-0.
  • Larkin led off the fourth inning with his third hit, a double down the left field line. He was plated by a single up the middle from McCarthy to make it 8-0.
  • The Knights put three runs on the board on five hits to come within five, 8-3, in the sixth inning.
  • Defensive miscues from Queens allowed the Lions to add a ninth run in the top of the ninth before sophomore JJ DeVito fired a triple to right center to round out the score at 10-3.

Top Performances

  • DeVito, Larkin, and McCarthy each tallied three hits at the dish, with DeVito just a home run shy of the cycle.
  • McCarthy and McAlonie both drove in two runs.
  • Andreoli tossed eight innings, striking out two, to improve to a perfect 9-0 on the season. Redshirt sophomore Connor Huckemeyer tossed a hitless ninth inning in relief.
