ECC Baseball Report - Week 11

Player of the Week
Ethan Hammond, D'Youville (Sr, OF - Oakville, Ontario)
Hammond hit .538 (7-for-13) and walked three times to get on-base at a .625 clip over four games last week. Five of his seven hits went for extra bases (four doubles, one home run) to add a 1.077 slugging percentage. Hammond also scored five runs and drove in eight RBI on the week. 

Co-Pitcher of the Week
Chris AuClair, D'Youville (So, P - Baldwinsville, N.Y.)
AuClair shut down one of the most potent offenses in the conference in D'Youville's 4-1 win over Queens. The lefty tossed 7.0 innings allowing one run while scattering six hits and striking out 13. 

Co-Pitcher of the Week
Charlie Cucchiara, Molloy (Sr, P - East Meadow, N.Y.)
Cucchiara pitched his first complete game shutout of the season in Molloy's 3-0 victory over Lincoln. The right hander tossed nine innings allowing three hits and striking out three to improve to 7-3 on the season.

Rookie of the Week
Zach Ashline, Mercy (Fr, OF - Colonie, N.Y.)
Ashline hit a team-high .500 (6-for-12) with four RBI, four runs, and a team-high two home runs in three games. The freshman went 4-for-5 with two runs, three RBI, and a home run at Pace on Tuesday. Ashline ended the week going 2-for-7 with two runs and a home run at Shippensburg on Saturday.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Bryan Birkhead, Staten Island (Jr, OF - Staten Island, N.Y.)
Birkhead was a big part of the Dolphins' 10-3 win over the Spartans on Friday, going 4-for-5 with two runs scored. He finished the week 6-fo-9 at the plate giving him a .667 batting average across CSI's two conference games.

Aaron Dona, St. Thomas Aquinas (Gr, P - Gloversville, N.Y.)
Dona earned his fifth win of the season with a complete game pitching performance in STAC's 2-1 victory over Staten Island. The righty allowed eight hits and a run over nine innings, while walking only one and striking out seven.

John Esposito, Staten Island (Sr, P - Staten Island, N.Y.)
Esposito remained unbeaten against conference opponents this year as he earned the win in Friday's Dolphins victory over the Spartans. In seven innings, he allowed just one run on four hits. He also picked up the 200th strikeout of his career in the game and moved into second in the conference in ERA.

Garrett Scavelli, Molloy (Jr, OF - Franklin Square, N.Y.)
Scavelli played a key piece in moving the needle for the Lions' lineup. Scavelli hit .625 (5-for-8) with a pair of multi-hit performances while getting on base at a .727 clip.

ECC Team Notes

D'Youville: No team notes submitted.

Lincoln: No team notes submitted.

Mercy: The Mercy College baseball team went 1-2 on the week with a win over Pace and losses to Shippensburg. The Mavericks were led by freshman Sean McAdams who had a team-high five RBI. Mercy resumes action on Thursday when they host Lincoln at 3:30 p.m.

Molloy: The Lions wrapped up its conference part of its schedule going 3-0 on the weekend against Lincoln. Molloy now sits at 31-14 overall and 18-5 in league play, they will host two non-conference opponents this coming week Bridgeport Tuesday, May 1 and nationally ranked Southern New Hampshire Saturday, May 6.

Queens: With injuries running through the lineup, baseball went 1-3 on the week but would earn a crucial ECC split against D'Youville on Friday afternoon as senior Liam Pulsipher (East Morchies, N.Y.) fired a complete game effort in the win. Queens opens the week with an early morning baseball game against DYU on Monday before concluding the regular season with four-game series against STAC set to begin on Friday. The Knights will officially conclude their series DYU on Monday.

Staten Island: The Dolphins played the first two games of a four game series against St. Thomas Aquinas on Friday. After losing the first game 2-1, the Dolphins offense erupted for 10 runs in a 10-3 victory in game two.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball team (19-23, 12-6 ECC) went 1-4 last week, with the lone victory coming against Staten Island (2-1). STAC returns to action on May 1 & 2 at Staten Island, before closing out the 2023 Regular Season with a four-game ECC series against Queens (May 5-7).
