ECC Women's Basketball Report - Week 14

Player of the Week
Destiny Ryles, Dist. Columbia (So, G - Windsor Mill, Md.)
Ryles was just two assists short of a triple-double in the Firebirds' win over Staten Island. She scored 17 points shooting 60 percent from the field while grabbing 10 rebounds, dishing out eight assists, and swiping three steals.

Defensive Player of the Week
Anna Jankovic, D'Youville (So, - Averill Park, N.Y.)
Jankovic helped the Saints to a 2-1 record last week by pulling down 11.3 rebounds per game and swiping 2.0 steals per game. Her play helped D'Youville hold their opponents to just 60.3 points per game and 35.4 percent field goal shooting. 

Rookie of the Week
Brianna Davis, Queens (Fr, G - Bronx, N.Y.)
In the Knights' 1-1 week, Davis averaged 17.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists as the rookie tallied 34 points, five rebounds, six assists, two blocks, and two steals on 57.7 percent shooting. The Bronx native began the week with 10 points in the victory over Wilmington before recording a career-high 24 points on 58.8 percent shooting against Roberts Wesleyan Saturday afternoon. The rookie tallied a season-high 10 made field goals and four made three three-pointers against the Redhawks.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Danielle DiCintio, Roberts Wesleyan (Jr, G - Somers, N.Y.)DiCintio led the Redhawks to a win over Queens with a 19 point, six assist, three rebound, three steal performance. 

Paige Emborsky, Daemen (Gr, G - Newfane, N.Y.)
Daemen University graduate student Paige Emborsky finished with 31 points in Daemen's weekend sweeps over STAC and Mercy. The guard put together a career outing against the Spartans on Friday night, tallying a career-high 26 points while knocking down eight three-point field goals to tie the Daemen school record of most three-point FGs made in a single game. Emborsky shot 58 percent (11-of-19) from the field and 64 percent (9-of-14) from beyond the arc on the weekend, while pulling down four rebounds and totaling four assists and a steal in the wins.

Latavia Jackson, Dist. Columbia (Jr, G - Waldorf, Md.)
Jackson had a stellar performance against Staten Island, helping her team to a 1-0 week. She scored a game high 23 points shooting at 60% from the field, while grabbing eight rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block. She also took great care of the ball, ending the night with zero turnovers.

Stella Mollica, D'Youville (So, - Shillington, Pa.)
Mollica averaged 13.7 points, 6.3 assists, and 3.3 rebounds per game in a 2-1 week for D'Youville. She shot 48.4 percent from the field and 50.0 percent from three point range.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: The Daemen University women's basketball team swept St. Thomas Aquinas and Mercy in a pair of home games on the weekend to move to 17-4 overall and 12-3 in ECC play this season. The Wildcats return to Lumsden Gymnasium on Saturday for the final regular season matchup of the season where they will host crosstown rival D'Youville at 4 PM.

District of Columbia: The Firebirds went 1-0 on the week defeating the College of Staten Island and securing themselves a hosting spot in the ECC tournament for the first time since the 2015-16 season. They also reached 14 wins on the season, the most for the Firebirds since the 2015-16 season.

D'Youville: No team notes submitted.

Mercy: The Mercy College women's basketball team went 0-2 on the week with losses to D'Youville and Daemen. The Mavericks were led by sophomore Jaclyn Stanavich who averaged a team-high 12 points per game. Mercy resumes action on Wednesday when they host Molloy at 5 p.m.

Molloy: Molloy went 1-1 on the week, falling to UDC, 74-68, Wednesday, February 8 and defeating Staten Island, 44-39, Saturday, February 11. The Lions now sit at 5-18 overall and 4-10 in league play. The cardinal and white will have an 11-day break before returning to the court against Mercy Wednesday, February 22.

Queens: WBB went 1-1 on the week defeating Wilmington before fourth-quarter troubles hurt the Knights against Roberts Wesleyan. The Knights conclude the regular season against STAC on the road before welcoming Mercy to town on Senior Saturday.

Roberts Wesleyan: Roberts Wesleyan won its fourth game of the season on Saturday, defeating Queens, 65-53. The Redhawks will travel to UDC on Thursday and CSI on Saturday to close out the season.

Staten Island: The Dolphins dropped a pair of games this week first losing in heartbreaking fashion against New Haven on Wednesday. The Dolphins then suffered a lopsided defeat against UDC this weekend and still have work to do to clinch a playoff spot with two games remaining in their season.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball team (18-7, 10-4 ECC) split a pair of contests last week, first falling to Daemen 77-68, then beating D'Youville 68-49. STAC will close out its regular season schedule by hosting Queens on February 22 (5:30 p.m.), then visiting Molloy on February 25 (12:00 p.m.).
