ECC Women's Basketball Report - Week Seven

Player of the Week
Khadija Demry, Queens (Sr, G - Brooklyn, N.Y.)
Demry matched a career-high 24 points on 69.2 percent shooting in the Knights' lone game of the week against Division I Stonehill College. The junior went 9-for-13 from the field with a career-high three steals, three assists, and three rebounds against the Skyhawks. 

Defensive Player of the Week
Jenalyse Alarcon, Staten Island (So, F - Troy, N.Y.)
Alarcon collected nine rebounds and had three steals to go along with 16 points in the CSI win over Adelphi on Saturday. Those steals were a key part of a Dolphins' comeback that saw CSI force 22 Panthers turnovers in a 68-60 win.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Anna Jankovic, D'Youville (So, G - Averill Park, N.Y.)
Jankovic scored a game-high 20 points on 61.5 percent shooting (8-for-13) and 50.0 percent shooting from behind the arc (4-for-8) in the Saints' loss to Le Moyne. She narrowly missed a double-double with nine rebounds and also added three assists. 

Karolina Jaruseviciute, St. Thomas Aquinas (Jr, F - Jackson, N.J.)
Jaruseviciute led the Spartans on the defensive end of the floor, compiling nine rebounds, six steals, and a blocked shot in the Spartans' last two games. The junior forward posted four rebounds, six steals, and a block against Bridgeport, before recording five rebounds against Southern New Hampshire. She also posted 14 and 9-point games against her opponents.

Erin Leary, St. Thomas Aquinas (So, F - Carle Place, N.Y.)
Leary averaged 15.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 0.5 blocks per game in the Spartans' last two contests. The sophomore forward recorded 11 points, 10 rebounds, one assist, and one block against Bridgeport, before posting a 19-point, six-rebound, one-assist effort versus Southern New Hampshire.

Destiny Ryles, Dist. Columbia (So, G - Windsor Mill, Md.)
In the Firebirds' lone game against Southern Connecticut St., Ryles padded the stat sheet with a game-high 20 points, five assists, four steals, two rebounds, and a block. She also shot 50 percent from the field.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: The Daemen women's basketball team played just one game over the holidays, winning their makeup game 63-48 over St. Michael's on Monday, Jan. 2. The Wildcats will resume ECC play on Friday when they travel to Staten Island for a 5:30 PM tip-off.

District of Columbia: UDC matched up with NE10 school Southern Conn, St. where they put up a fight but eventually fell 55-67. Next up, the Firebirds will head back on the road on January 4th, to face off against Salem in their final non conference match up of the regular season.

D'Youville: No team notes submitted.

Mercy: The Mercy College women's basketball team was idle this week. Mercy resumes action on Friday, January 6th when they host Roberts Wesleyan at 5 p.m.

Molloy: The Lions returned to the court after a 12-day break taking on Bentley at home on Thursday, December 29, Molloy fell to the Falcons, 62-46. Molloy now sits at 3-9 overall and will return to conference play Wednesday, January 4th to take on Queens.

Queens: Coming off a tough loss to DI Stonehill on Thursday (Dec. 29) afternoon, the Knights return to action as they open ECC play against Molloy University on Wednesday (Jan. 4) evening before hitting the road in non-conference play against Franklin Pierce University Saturday (Jan. 7) afternoon.

Roberts Wesleyan: No team notes submitted.

Staten Island: No team notes submitted.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball team (9-4, 3-1 ECC) went 0-2 over the holiday break, dropping home contests against Bridgeport (70-60) and Southern New Hampshire (71-65). STAC will next be in action on January 4 (1:00 p.m.) vs. Jefferson and January 8 (1:00 p.m.) vs. Roberts Wesleyan.
