ECC Women's Basketball Report - Week Five

Player of the Week
Chelsea Reeves, Queens (So, G - Brooklyn, N.Y.)
Reeves tallied her first double-double of the season as she matched her career-high 33 points and totaled 10 rebounds in the Knights' win over Roberts Wesleyan. The sophomore recorded 12 points in the fourth quarter, including icing the game at the charity stripe by going 8-for-8 in the quarter and 13-for-14 on the night.

Defensive Player of the Week
Erin Leary, St. Thomas Aquinas (So, F - Carle Place, N.Y.)
Leary led the Spartans on the defensive end of the floor, compiling 12 rebounds, one steal, and three blocked shots over two games last week. The sophomore forward posted six rebounds, one steal, and two blocks against Daemen, before recording six rebounds, and one blocked shot against D'Youville. She also recorded 11 and 24-point games against her opponents.

Rookie of the Week
Paris Anthony, Roberts Wesleyan (Fr, G - Rochester, N.Y.)
Anthony helped the Redhawks to a split of its first two ECC games by averaging 12.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game. She began the week with 11 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals in a loss to Queens. She followed with 14 points, including the game-winning layup right before the final buzzer, seven rebounds, and two assists in a win over Molloy.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Taysha Bender, Mercy (Gr, G - Glen Burnie, Md.)
Bender averaged a team-high 14.0 points per game with 5.7 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game as Mercy went 1-2 on the week. The graduate student opened the week with eight points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals against Chestnut Hill on Tuesday. The guard then had a team-high 12 points, including her 1,000th career point on a go-ahead basket with 33 seconds left, in the Mavericks win over D'Youville on Friday. Bender ended the week with a game-high 22 points to go along with five rebounds and four steals against No. 7/13 Daemen on Sunday.

Sarah Ericson, St. Thomas Aquinas (So, G - Norwich, Conn.)
Ericson averaged 15.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.5 steals per game in two contests last week. The sophomore guard recorded nine points, nine rebounds, three assists, and three steals against Daemen, before posting a 21-point, 15-rebound, three-assist, and two-steal effort versus D'Youville.

Gabby McDuffie, Daemen (Jr, G - Buffalo, N.Y.)
McDuffie led all Wildcat shooters over the weekend, totaling 30 points over two games, including a season-high 19 points in Sunday's 78-62 win over Mercy. McDuffie averaged 34.5 minutes and 15 points per game on the weekend, shooting 36.7 percent from the field. She pulled down seven total rebounds, averaging 2.5 offensive boards per game, and totaled 10 assists and five steals over the two ECC games.

Destiny Ryles, Dist. Columbia (So, G - Windsor Mill, Md.)
Ryles packed the stat sheet last week averaging 12.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists, and 4.0. steals per game in a 1-1 week. In the Firebirds' conference win over CSI, she posted 17 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, and four steals.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: The Daemen University women's basketball team split the weekend's ECC games, falling in OT to St. Thomas Aquinas 66-65 on Friday night but bouncing back for a 78-62 win over Mercy on Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats will play at Saint Anselm on Sunday at noon in a non-conference matchup.

District of Columbia: UDC went 1-1 on the week, defeating CSI in a conference match up on Tuesday and then falling to Chestnut Hill at home on Saturday. They will head to PA next Wednesday to face off against Millersville.

D'Youville: No team notes submitted.

Mercy: The Mercy College women's basketball team went 1-2 on the week with a win over D'Youville and losses to Chestnut Hill and No. 7/13 Daemen. The Mavericks were led by graduate student Taysha Bender who averaged a team-high 14.0 points per game. Mercy resumes action on Sunday when they host Goldey-Beacom at 2 p.m.

Molloy: The Lions fell, 59-57, to Roberts Wesleyan in a back and forth battle, Sunday afternoon inside Quealy Gymnasium. Molloy now sits at 2-7 overall and 1-2 in conference play. The cardinal and white will step out of conference to play at Adelphi Wednesday, December 14 before traveling to Rochester for a rematch against the Redhawks on Saturday, December 17.

Queens: Sophomore guard Chelsea Reeves led the way for the Knights as she recorded her career seventh double-double matching her career-high 33 points total to go 10 rebounds as the Knights defeated Roberts Wesleyan 61-58 to earn their first ECC victory of the season. Queens returns to action on Saturday (Dec. 17) as they welcome Assumption College to town.

Roberts Wesleyan: Roberts Wesleyan dropped its first game of the weekend to Queens, 61-58 but followed up with a buzzer-beating win over Molloy, 59-57. Freshman Paris Anthony hit the layup to win the game. The Redhawks will be at home twice this week with a mid-week game against Le Moyne followed by Molloy again on Saturday.

Staten Island: The Dolphins went 1-1 this week losing to District of Columbia on Tuesday and defeating Alliance University on Saturday. Gia Esposito led CSI in scoring with 15 on 6-10 shooting in Tuesday's loss to the Firebirds and Dana Phelan finished with 14 points and hit four of nine threes against the Warriors on Saturday.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball team (8-2, 3-1 ECC) went 2-0 last week, beating Daemen 66-65 in overtime, before defeating D'Youville 63-54. STAC will next be in action on December 16 (5:30 p.m.) at Bloomfield.
