ECC Women's Basketball Report - Week Four

Player of the Week
Paige Emborsky, Daemen (Gr, G - Newfane, N.Y.)
Emborsky helped lead the Wildcats to their best start during their NCAA era, winning both ECC games over the weekend to move to a perfect 6-0 on the season. The graduate student led all Wildcat scorers against Molloy and Queens on the weekend, scoring a team-high 17 points in both games (34 total). Emborsky shot 63 percent from the field (12-of-19) and was an absolute weapon from beyond the arc, finishing at 88 percent (8-of-9) for three. She averaged 29.5 minutes per game, and pulled down 14 rebounds (13 defensive), including snagging a team-high eight rebounds against Queens on Sunday.

Defensive Player of the Week
Anna Jankovic, D'Youville (So, G - Averill Park, N.Y.)
Jankovic averaged 12.7 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game over three contests last week. She helped the Saints give up just 52.0 points per game in two ECC contests last week. Jankovic also pulled down an ECC-season-high 20 rebounds in a win over Queens.

Rookie of the Week
Cecilia Lapertosa, Queens (Fr, F - Whitesboro, N.Y.)
Lapertosa led the Knights' offense, averaging 16.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game as she shot 50.0 percent on the week with 33 points, 20 rebounds, and three blocks against D'Youville and Daemen. The rookie led the way with her third double-double and second straight in the ECC opener against D'Youville as she tallied a career-high 24 points and 13 rebounds with two blocks.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Taysha Bender, Mercy (Gr, G - Glen Burnie, Md.)
Bender averaged a team-high 20.0 points per game to go along with 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game as Mercy went 1-1 on the week. The graduate student opened the week with 10 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals at Staten Island on Wednesday. The guard ended the week with a career-high 30 points on 11-of-22 shooting with six rebounds, two assists, and four steals in the win over UDC on Saturday.

Latavia Jackson, Dist. Columbia (Jr, G - Waldorf, Md.)
Jackson averaged 19.0 points, 8.0 rebounds pg, 3.0 assists, and 2.5 steals per game in a 1-1 week. In the game against Mercy, she led with team-highs of 22 points and nine rebounds while also making three assists and two steals. This also marked her fourth game of the season scoring over 20 points.

Erin Leary, St. Thomas Aquinas (So, F - Carle Place, N.Y.)
Leary averaged 15.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game in two contests last week. The sophomore forward recorded four points, eight rebounds, and three assists at UDC, before posting a 26-point, 11-rebound, three-assist, and three-steal effort versus Staten Island.

Destiny Ryles, Dist. Columbia (So, G - Windsor Mill, Md.)
Ryles averaged 19.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 6.5 assists, and 2.0 steals per game in a 1-1 week to open conference play. Ryles led the Firebirds to a win over preseason favorite STAC, flirting with a triple-double on 23 points, 10 assists, and nine rebounds. In the game against Mercy, she packed the stat sheet adding 15 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: The Daemen University women's basketball team moved to a perfect 6-0 on the season after a pair of ECC victories against Molloy and Queens over the weekend. The Wildcats are off to their best start during their NCAA era (2015-present), and are ranked No. 1 in the East Region and No. 10 in the D2SIDA National Poll and No. 23 in the WCBA Coaches Top-25 poll. The Wildcats hit the road this weekend to take on St. Thomas Aquinas on Friday night and Mercy on Sunday afternoon.

District of Columbia: UDC went 1-1 on the week to open up conference play, gaining the upset win over preseason favorite STAC, at home during the week. They went to drop their second game against Mercy on the weekend. Up next they will head back to N.Y. to face off against Staten Island in their last conference match up of the semester on Tuesday. They will also host Chestnut Hill, on Saturday.

D'Youville: No team notes submitted.

Mercy: The Mercy College women's basketball team went 1-1 on the week with a loss to Staten Island and a win over UDC. Mercy was led by graduate student Taysha Bender who averaged 20.0 points per game. The Mavericks resume action on Tuesday when they host Chestnut Hill at 5 p.m.

Molloy: The Lions went 1-1 on their western New York road trip, falling to Daemen, 74-56, Friday, December 2 and battled to defeat D'Youville, 55-52, Sunday, December 4 highlighted by a game-winning three from freshman Rosa Rizzitelli with 10 seconds remaining. Molloy now sits at 2-6 overall and 1-1 in ECC play. They return to the court to host Roberts Wesleyan Sunday, December 11.

Queens: The Knights went 0-2 on the week as the Knights opened ECC play in Buffalo. Rookie Cecilia Lapertosa tallied a career-high 24 points and 13 rebounds against D'Youville. Queens returns home on Friday evening against Roberts Wesleyan before traveling to Springfield, MA against AIC Sunday afternoon.

Staten Island: The Dolphins began a 1-1 week by extending their win streak to three on Wednesday with a victory at home in the conference opener over Mercy College. They wrapped up this week's slate on Saturday with a loss to St. Thomas Aquinas brining their win streak to an end.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball team (6-2) went 1-1 last week, falling at UDC 68-58, before beating Staten Island 82-59. STAC will next be in action on December 9 (5:30 p.m.) vs. Daemen and December 11 (1:00 p.m.) vs. D'Youville.
