ECC Volleyball Report - Week 11

Player of the Week
Maggie Burns, Daemen (Sr, OH - Louisville, Ky.)
Daemen University senior outside hitter Maggie Burns led all Wildcat hitters on the weekend, totaling 27 kills for an average of 3.38 kills per set. She added 25 total digs on the weekend (3.13 digs/set), two assisted blocks and three service aces. In Saturday's 3-2 victory over Mercy to help lead the Wildcats to back-to-back undefeated conference seasons, Burns finished with her eighth double-double of the season, knocking down 17 kills and a season-high 19 digs.

Defensive Player of the Week
Jasmine Brundage, Daemen (Jr, L - East Aurora, N.Y.)
Daemen University junior libero Jasmine Brundage returned to the lineup in the Wildcats' final regular season weekend. Brundage totaled 42 digs on the weekend, averaging 5.25 digs/set. In Saturday's ECC regular season finale win against Mercy, Brundage finished with a season-tying high 24 digs (4.80 digs/set) with no errors, and added four assists and one service ace.

Setter of the Week
Yarianne Gonzalez, Mercy (Sr, S - Manati, Puerto Rico)

Gonzalez had a team-high 83 assists with 19 digs as Mercy went 1-1 on the week. The senior opened the week with 44 assists and 11 digs against first-place Daemen on Saturday. The setter ended the week with 39 assists and eight digs in the win over D'Youville on Sunday.

Rookie of the Week
Ryann Frontera, Queens (Fr, L/S - Dripping Springs, Texas)
Frontera tallied 48 digs, 18 assists, and two service aces as the Knights went 1-1 on the week. The rookie tallied her first career double-double with a career-high 12 assists and 21 digs in the five-setter against Molloy. She would end the regular season with a career-high 27 assists as Queens came back from an 0-2 deficit to defeat Roberts Wesleyan, 3-2.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Maya Akana, Molloy (Fr, OH - Ewa Beach, Hawaii)
Akana led Molloy with a .333 hitting percentage, tallying 14 kills on the week. The freshman added 15 digs, four aces, two blocks, and one assist. She put up her first career double-double to end the regular season against Roberts Wesleyan with 11 kills and 11 digs while adding three aces.

Olivia Alessi, Daemen (Jr, S - East Aurora, N.Y.)
Daemen University junior setter Olivia Alessi was a pivotal part of the Wildcat offense in their 3-2 win over Mercy to finish off their second straight undefeated regular season. Alessi finished with 39 assists (7.80 assists/set) in the victory over the Mavericks, and added 10 digs to finish with her fifth double-double of the season. She added four service aces and two kills on the day. Alessi played in just one set in the regular season final against Bridgeport on Sunday, and on the weekend finished with 46 total assists (7.67 assists/set).

Larissa Schneid, Mercy (Sr, OH - Sao Paulo, Brazil)
Schneid had a team-high 25 kills with a team-high 30 digs as Mercy went 1-1 on the week. The senior opened the week with a team-high 15 kills and 19 digs against Daemen on Saturday. The outside hitter ended the week with 10 kills and 11 digs in the win over D'Youville on Sunday.

Taylor Smith, Queens (Fr, MB - Temecula, Calif.)
Smith recorded seven blocks and nine blocks on the week as Queens went 1-1 on the week. The rookie tallied a career-high seven blocks with five kills as the Knights defeated Roberts Wesleyan 3-2 to help Queens earn their 12th victory of the year.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: The Daemen University women's volleyball team wrapped up the regular season with a pair of wins over the weekend. On Saturday, Daemen earned their second straight undefeated ECC regular season with a 3-2 win over Mercy to cap off a 10-0 conference season. The Wildcats then won their 18th game of the season with a 3-0 sweep over former ECC-foe Bridgeport. Daemen will face No. 4 seed Mercy again on Friday in the ECC Tournament at home at Lumsden Gym.

D'Youville: No team notes submitted.

Mercy: The Mercy College volleyball team went 1-1 on the week with a win over D'Youville and a loss to Daemen. The Mavericks were led by senior Larissa Schneid who led the team in kills and digs. Mercy resumes action on Friday when they play at Daemen in an ECC Semifinal at 5 p.m.

Molloy: The Lions closed out the regular season on a two-game winning streak, topping Queens College in five sets on Tuesday (Nov. 1) before beating Roberts Wesleyan in three sets on Saturday (Nov. 5). The Lions will have the three-seed in the upcoming ECC Championship and will take on Queens at Daemen on Friday (Nov. 11).

Queens: The Knights went 1-1 on the week as they earned their 12th victory of the season and clinched the No. 2 seed in the upcoming ECC Volleyball Tournament. The Knights are returning to postseason play for the first time since the 2008 season.
