ECC Volleyball Report - Week Four

Player of the Week
Christina Franco, Queens (So, OH - Lynbrook, N.Y.)
The sophomore tallied 33 kills, 52 digs, and two blocks as she totaled two double-doubles in the Knights' 2-1 non-conference week. Franco notched 14 kills and 25 digs (one short of tying her career-high) in the 3-2 victory over Pace on Tuesday evening before the Lynbrook native recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 13 kills and 17 digs in the 3-1 victory over Caldwell on Sunday afternoon.

Defensive Player of the Week
Stephanie Lankhorst, Mercy (Sr, MB - Apeldoorn, Netherlands)
Lankhorst had a team-high 16 blocks as Mercy went 2-1 on the week. The senior opened the week with five blocks at RV AIC on Tuesday. The middle blocker then had seven blocks in the win at Pace on Saturday. Lankhorst ended the week with four blocks in the win over Goldey-Beacom. She also had 18 kills on a .256 hitting percentage and added seven service aces on the week. 

Setter of the Week
Olivia Alessi, Daemen (Jr, S - East Aurora, N.Y.)
After earning her 1,000th career assist last weekend, Alessi began the trek to the next 1,000 in West Virginia this weekend. Through two matches she tallied 53 total assists, boasting an impressive average of 12.33 assists per set in the 3-0 sweep over West Liberty on Saturday. In the win against the Hilltoppers, she added 16 digs to finish with a double-double. She finished with two kills and two aces on Saturday, and in the 3-0 loss to Fairmont State on Friday also added a block.

Rookie of the Week
Sarah Munn, Queens (Fr, L - Torrance, Calif.)
Munn tallied 49 digs, six assists, and two service aces in the Knights' 2-1 non-conference week. The rookie stepped up as the Knights lead Libero on the week tallying three double-digit digs including a career-high 22 digs and two service aces in the 3-1 victory over Caldwell Sunday afternoon.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Maggie Burns, Daemen (Sr, OH - Louisville, Ky.)
Daemen University senior outside hitter Maggie Burns led the team in kills for the fifth and sixth time this season, totaling 21kills on the weekend. Burns notched a season-high 15 kills against West Liberty to average 5 kills/set, and added 14 digs (4.67 digs/set) in the match to finish her third double-double of the season.

Jasmine Brundage, Daemen (Jr, LB - East Aurora, N.Y.)
Daemen University junior libero Jasmine Brundage finished with 29 total digs on the weekend to average 4.83 digs/set. In the win against West Liberty on Saturday, she totaled 18 digs to finish with 6 digs/set in the sweep over the Hilltoppers.

Yarianne Gonzalez, Mercy (Sr, S - Manati, Puerto Rico)
Gonzalez had a team-high 101 assists with 13 digs and nine kills as Mercy went 2-1 on the week. The senior opened the week with 37 assists, three kills and three digs at RV AIC on Tuesday. The setter then had a match-high 26 assists with seven digs in the win over Pace on Saturday. Gonzalez ended the week with a match-high 38 assists with three digs and three kills in the win over Goldey-Beacom.

Larissa Schneid, Mercy (Sr, OH - Sao Paulo, Brazil)
Schneid had a team-high 39 kills with 16 digs and a .240 hitting percentage as Mercy went 2-1 on the week. The senior opened the week with a team-high 18 kills to go along with five digs at RV AIC on Tuesday. The outside hitter then had seven kills in the win at Pace on Saturday before ending the week with a match-high 14 kills to go along with nine digs in the win over Goldey-Beacom.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: Daemen women's volleyball traveled to West Virginia this past weekend to take on Fairmont State and West Liberty for their final non-conference tune up. The Wildcats split the weekend, falling to Fairmont State 3-0 on Friday, but rebounding with a 3-0 sweep over West Liberty on Saturday.

D'Youville: No team notes submitted.

Mercy: The Mercy College volleyball team went 2-1 on the week with wins over Pace and Goldey-Beacom and a loss to RV AIC. Mercy was led by senior Larissa Schneid who led the team in kills. The Mavericks resume action on Saturday when they host Roberts Wesleyan at 12 p.m.

Molloy: The Lions were idle this week. Molloy returns to the court Tuesday (Sept. 20) against Adelphi in Rockville Centre at 7:00 p.m. before opening conference play this weekend at D'Youville (Sept. 24) and Daemen (Sept. 25).

Queens: The Knights went 2-1 on the week picking up non-conference victories over Pace and Caldwell. Queens will now prepare for their East Coast Conference openers on the road as they match up against defending champion Daemen on Saturday (9/24) and conclude their Buffalo trip against D'Youville Sunday (9/25) afternoon.

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts women's volleyball team dropped two matches in a tri-match against Saint Rose and Frostburg. The Redhawks are 2-9 on the season and will head to Le Moyne and Mercy this week.
