ECC Volleyball Report - Week Nine

Player of the Week
Julia Pomerleau, Mercy (Sr, MB - Portland, Maine)
Pomerleau ranked second on the team with 22 kills and had a team-high five blocks as Mercy went 2-0 on the week. The senior opened the week with nine kills and two blocks in the win over Caldwell on Monday. The middle blocker ended the week with 13 kills and three blocks in the win over Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday. Pomerleau also finished the week with an impressive .606 hitting percentage.

Defensive Player of the Week
Vanessa Kuliga, Daemen (Jr, MB - Glenview, Ill.)
Daemen University junior Vanessa Kuliga had a big week at the net. She started in all four of Daemen's matches, and tallied 13 total digs (0.87 digs/set). On Saturday against Queens, she finished with two solo blocks and three assisted blocks for a season-high five-block game. On the season, Kuliga has amassed 32 of Daemen's 91 total blocks. Along with putting up a big defensive showing this week, Kuliga finished with 26 kills (1.73 kills/set), six service aces, and 13 digs.

Setter of the Week
Dunja Masic, Daemen (Jr, S - McHenry, Ill.)
Over four matches, Daemen University setter Olivia Alessi tallied 157 assists to average 10.47 assists per set. The junior was second on the team in digs over the week, finishing with 45 digs (3.0 digs/set), including a huge 21-dig game (5.25 digs/set) against Gannon on Tuesday that tied her single-game career high in digs. Alessi also added 13 kills over the week, averaging 0.87 kills per set with a .286 hitting percentage. Against Saint Rose on Friday, she totaled a season-high four service aces. She finished with five aces on the week.

Rookie of the Week
Kaitlin Jordan, Molloy (Fr, M - Waunakee, Wis.)
Jordan averaged 3.11 kills per set while adding seven blocks, three digs and two assists for the Lions. She attacked at a .356 clips, including putting up 15 kills with no errors (.714 hitting percentage)and three blocks in a 3-0 victory over D'Youville.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Alexis Deodat, Queens (Jr, RS/MB - Tampa Bay, Fla.)
Deodat continues her impressive season as she tallied 20 kills averaging 2.86 kills per set with 3 blocks on the week. The Tampa Bay native tallied a match-high 13 kills against Daemen before she notched seven kills and two blocks in the 3-0 victory over D'Youville to complete the series sweep.

Sam Logan, Daemen (Gr, OH - Eden, N.Y.)
Daemen University graduate student Sam Logan led the Wildcats offensively last week, totaling 46 kills (3.07 kills/set) over four matches. The outside hitter led the team in digs over the week, notching 47 to average 3.13 digs/set, including a standout 19-dig (4.75 digs/set) performance against Queens on Saturday. She added four aces on the week, two assisted blocks and two solo blocks. Logan earned her seventh and eighth double-double of the season against Saint Rose on Friday and Queens on Saturday.

Aria Miller, Molloy (Fr, OH - Mililani, Hawaii)
Miller was a phenom at the service line for the Lions, racking up 14 aces (1.56 per set) on the week. Miller also averaged 4.22 digs per set, including 19 against Holy Family.

Angie Vizcaino Araujo, Mercy (Jr, OH - Santo Domingo Oeste, Dominican Republic)
Vizcaino Araujo had a team-high 23 kills with six digs and two blocks as Mercy went 2-0 on the week. The junior opened the week with seven kills, three digs and two blocks in the win over Caldwell on Monday. The outside hitter ended the week with a match-high 16 kills with three digs in the win over Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: Daemen women's volleyball split the week last week, falling to non-conference opponents Gannon and Saint Rose on Tuesday and Friday before returning to ECC play where they beat Queens 3-1 on Saturday and swept Molloy 3-0 on Sunday. The Wildcats have just one game this week, hosting longtime rival Roberts Wesleyan on Wednesday at 6 PM.

D'Youville: No team notes submitted.

Mercy: The Mercy College volleyball team went 2-0 on the week with wins over Caldwell and Roberts Wesleyan. The Mavericks were led by senior Yarianne Gonzalez who had a team-high 89 assists. Mercy resumes action on Wednesday when they host Molloy at 7 p.m.

Molloy: The Lions went 2-1 on the week to improve to 12-9 (4-3 ECC). Molloy defeated Holy Family, 3-0, in non-conference action before sweeping D'Youville and being swept by Daemen. The Lions will take on Mercy on Wednesday (Oct. 27) on the road before celebrating Senior Day at home against Southern Connecticut State on Saturday (Oct. 29).

Queens: The Knights went 1-1 on the week as they earned their 10th win of the season, the most wins in a single season since 2015. Queens homestand comes to a close as they welcome Mercy College on Senior Day Saturday (Oct. 29) afternoon.

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts women's volleyball team fell to Mercy at home on Saturday, 3-1. The Redhawks travel to both D'Youville and Daemen this week.
