ECC Volleyball Report - Week Seven

Player of the Week
Vanessa Kuliga, Daemen (Jr, MB - Glenview, Ill.)
Daemen University junior middle blocker Vanessa Kuliga led the team offensively last week, notching 21 kills to average 3.0 kills/set through two matches. She had a team-high .436 hitting percentage on the week, including a season-high .714 hitting percentage against Le Moyne on Wednesday, where she knocked down a season-tying high 11 kills with just one error in the match. On the week, she added eight total aces to average 1.14 aces/set, with a career-high six aces coming against the Dolphins on Wednesday. Kuliga now leads the Wildcats in aces with 21 on the season. She added four total digs and two blocks.

Defensive Player of the Week
Ryann Frontera, Queens (Fr, L/S - Dripping Springs, Texas)
Rookie Ryann Frontera notched 69 digs to go with seven assists and six service aces as the Knights went 3-0. Against Molloy, Frontera tallied 20 digs and three service aces as the Knights defeated Molloy 3-0. Against Le Moyne, the rookie tied a career-high 25 digs to go with two service aces and three assists. She would finish the week with 24 assists and three assists as Queens swept their second ECC opponent of the week in the 3-0 victory over Roberts Wesleyan.

Setter of the Week
Despina Boudouris, Queens (So, S - Athens, Greece)
Sophomore Debbie Boudouris tallied 116 assists averaging 10.55 assists per set to go with 30 digs, five service aces, and four kills in the 3-0 week for Queens. She began the week with 29 assists in the 3-0 win over Molloy before notching her sixth double-double of the season with a career-high 52 assists and 18 digs in the 3-2 comeback victory over Le Moyne. She would conclude the week with 35 assists, two service aces, and six digs in their 3-0 sweep over Roberts Wesleyan Sunday afternoon.

Rookie of the Week
Kendall Conrad, Queens (Fr, OH - Carrolltown, Pa.)
Rookie Kendall Conrad notched 25 kills and four blocks on the week as Queens went 3-0 on the week. In the 3-2 comeback victory over Le Moyne Conrad tallied a match-high 16 kills to go with three blocks as she tallied 19 points.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Olivia Alessi, Daemen (Jr, S - East Aurora, N.Y.)
Daemen University junior Olivia Alessi started in both matches this week, totaling 68 assists through two matches to average 9.71 assists/set. Alessi finished with triple-digit assists in both games. She tallied multiple aces in a match for the fourth and fifth time this season, earning two service aces in each match this week. Alessi added three kills on the weekend, 11 digs (1.57 digs/set) and two solo blocks.

Alexis Deodat, Queens (Jr, RS/MB - Tampa Bay, Fla.)
Senior Alexis Deodat led from the front as she notched 31 kills, 10 digs, and 13 blocks as Queens went 3-0 on the week. Deodat tallied nine kills in the 3-0 win over Molloy before notching 14 kills, and 6 blocks in the 3-2 comeback victory over Le Moyne. She would conclude the week with eight kills and two blocks in the 3-0 sweep over Roberts Wesleyan as she hit a searing .500 on the afternoon.

Christina Franco, Queens (So, OH - Lynbrook, N.Y.)
Franco tallied 30 kills averaging 2.73 kills per set, hitting .234 with 25 digs, and four service aces as the Knights went 3-0 on the week. She began with seven kills in the win over Molloy before notching her seventh double-double of the year in the 3-2 victory over Le Moyne with 14 kills and 12 digs. The sophomore would conclude the week with a match-high nine kills against Roberts Wesleyan as Queens swept their third ECC opponent of the season.

Angie Vizcaino Araujo, Mercy (Jr, OH - Santo Domingo Oeste, Dominican Republic)
Vizcaino Araujo had a team-high 37 kills on .241 hitting with 14 digs and three blocks in three matches this week. The junior opened the week with three kills and two digs at Bentley on Wednesday. The outside hitter then had a match-high 18 kills with seven digs at Daemen on Saturday. Vizcaino Araujo ended the week with a match-high 16 kills to go along with five digs in the win at D'Youville on Sunday.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: The Daemen University women's volleyball team won both of the matches they played in this week, sweeping Le Moyne at home on Wednesday in a non-league matchup and taking down Mercy 3-1 on Saturday to earn a perfect 5-0 through the first half of ECC play. The Wildcats return to action on Saturday Oct. 15, traveling across town to play D'Youville at 1 PM.

D'Youville: No team notes submitted.

Mercy: The Mercy College volleyball team went 1-2 on the week with a win over D'Youville and losses to Bentley and Daemen. The Mavericks were led by Angie Vizcaino Araujo who led the team in kills. Mercy resumes action on Monday, October 17th when they host Caldwell at 7 p.m.

Molloy: Molloy went 1-1 on the week, falling 3-0 to Queens before securing a 3-1 victory over Roberts Wesleyan College. This week, the Lions step out of conference against Pace on Thursday evening.

Queens: The Knights went 3-0 on the week sweeping Molloy and Roberts Wesleyan and earning a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory over Le Moyne. Queens will be off this week.

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts Wesleyan women's volleyball team suffered a pair of losses on the road over the weekend. The Redhawks fell to Molloy, 3-1 and Queens, 3-0. The Redhawks will take on the University of Rochester on Friday.
