ECC Women's Basketball Report - Week 14

Player of the Week
Alexa Huertas, St. Thomas Aquinas (Sr, G - Haverstraw, N.Y.)
Huertas averaged 20.5 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists over two games last week. Huertas posted 13 points, two rebounds, and one assist at Daemen, and then 28 points, one rebound, and two assists at D'Youville. The senior guard shot 42.4 percent (14-for-33) from the floor, 38.9 percent (7-for-18) from three, and 75.0 percent from the foul line (6-for-8). She also added three rebounds, three assists, and one steal.

Defensive Player of the Week
Gabriella Aspuru, Molloy (Sr, G - Farmingville, N.Y.)
Aspuru averaged 14.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game while also tallying five blocks and four steals on the week. The senior tallied 11 points, four blocks, and three steals in the win over Bridgeport and 17 points, one block, and one steal in the win over Roberts Wesleyan. She also helped the Lions allow just 48.5 points per game on the week.

Rookie of the Week
Chelsea Reeves, Queens (Fr, G - Brooklyn, N.Y.)
Reeves tallied three double-doubles on the week as the Brooklyn native averaged 16.3 points, 12.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists in three contests. Reeves shot 51.5 percent from the field and 83.3 percent from the charity stripe.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Sarah Ericson, St. Thomas Aquinas (Fr, G - Norwich, Conn.)
Ericson averaged 13.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists over two games last week. Ericson posted 17 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists at Daemen, and then nine points, 11 rebounds, and three assists at D'Youville. The freshman guard shot 40.9 percent (9-for-22) from the floor, 46.2 percent (6-for-13) from three, and 100.0 percent from the foul line (2-for-2). She also added 22 rebounds, eight assists, and two steals.

Gia Esposito, Staten Island (So, G - Staten Island, N.Y.)
Esposito averaged 15.0 points and 1.7 steals per game on the week. She had two 20 point outings in CSI's three games, scoring 20 against Queens and 22 against Roberts Wesleyan.

Trinity Hudson, Molloy (So, G - Glen Cove, N.Y.)
Hudson averaged 14.0 points and 13.0 rebounds per game last week helping the Lions go 2-0. The sophomore tallied 14 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks, and
two assists in the win over Bridgeport and recorded 14 points and 14 rebounds in the win over Roberts Wesleyan.

Katie Titus, Daemen (Sr, F - Penfield, N.Y.)
Averaged 23.5 points during a 1-1 week for the Wildcats... production included a 31-point outing in Sunday's rout of Mercy - her fifth 30-point game of the season and in her career... moved into the top-10 all-time at Daemen for career points, ranking ninth with 1,363... also moved into third for career three-point field goals with 179.

ECC Team Notes

Bridgeport: The UB women's basketball team heads into the final week of the season with an 8-15 overall mark and a 5-11 ECC record. Samirah Henderson leads the Purple Knights in scoring averaging 15.6 points per game. Three more UB players are averaging double-digits, Janiece Loner at 13.3 ppg., Brianna Meekins at 12.7 ppg. and Stephanie McBride at 12.6 ppg. McBride is averaging a double-double this season, as she leads UB grabbing 10.9 rebounds per game as well.

Daemen: Daemen suffered their first conference loss of the season last week, falling 61-53 to St. Thomas Aquinas. The loss snapped the Wildcats' 13-game winning streak. They rebounded Sunday with an 81-49 rout of Mercy. The Wildcats remain in first place in the ECC standings heading into the final week of the regular season. Katie Titus netted 31 points in the win and is the only ECC player to be averaging at least 20 points per game this season. Daemen visits Molloy and Queens this week while a COVID-19 make-up game with Bridgeport remains up in the air.

District of Columbia: The Firebirds topped Staten Island, 82-73, in their only game last week to move to 12-13 (8-8 ECC). Latavia Jackson and Halia Ellis each scored 13 points in the victory. UDC has already clinched a berth in the ECC Women's Basketball Championship. They'll try to improve their final seed with games at St. Thomas Aquinas on Wednesday and at home against Mercy on Saturday this week.

D'Youville: No team notes submitted.

Mercy: The Mercy College women's basketball team went 0-2 on the week with losses to D'Youville and Daemen. The Mavericks were led by junior Katie Wall who averaged 15.0 points per game. Mercy resumes action on Wednesday when they host Staten Island at 5 p.m.

Molloy: Molloy went 2-0 last week to move to 15-8 overall and 12-4 in ECC play. The Lions defeated Bridgeport, 65-44, Wednesday, February 16, and Roberts Wesleyan, 73-53, Saturday, February 19. Graduate student Safiyyah Lee tallied 15 points, and sophomore Trinity Hudson recorded 14 points and 12 rebounds in the win over the Purple Knights. In the win over the Redhawks, Aspuru netted 17 points, and Hudson recorded 14 points and 14 rebounds for her seventh double-double.

Queens: Queens wraps up the 2021-2022 season with two home games. The Knights will welcome D'Youville University to Flushing on Thursday before concluding the year against Daemen College on Saturday.

Roberts Wesleyan: No team notes submitted.

Staten Island: The Dolphins were in action three times this past week. CSI started off the week at Queens College the Dolphins lost 64-73. CSI then traveled to Roberts Wesleyan where they met the same result of losing a nailbiter, 59-60. The Dolphins then capped off the busy week by losing to UDC by a score of 44-58.CSI enters their final week of the season they will play Mercy on the road, then finish off the season at home for senior day against STAC.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball team (11-14, 10-6 ECC) put together a perfect 2-0 week, defeating both Daemen (61-53) and D'Youville (74-56) on the road. The Spartans return to action on February 23 against UDC (5:30 p.m.) and close out the regular season at Staten Island on February 26 (1:00 p.m.)
