ECC Women's Basketball Report - Week 11

Player of the Week
Katie Titus, Daemen (Sr, F - Penfield, N.Y.)
Titus averaged 20.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 2.3 steals per game while leading Daemen to three conference wins. She netted 19 points in just 20 minutes of action in Tuesday's win at D'Youville, including the 1,200th of her career (only the 15th player in team history to reach that total). She then erupted for 31 points while grabbing five steals in Friday's win over CSI - her third game this season with at least five steals. It marked her second 30-point game of the season and her career. She wrapped up the week by scoring 11 points and grabbing nine boards in Sunday's win over UDC. Titus has scored 10+ points in 14 of 15 games this season and 22 of her last 24 games dating back to last season. She leads the ECC in scoring this season, averaging 19.1 points per game.

Defensive Player of the Week
Katie Titus, Daemen (Sr, F - Penfield, N.Y.)
Titus averaged 8.7 rebounds, 2.3 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game while leading Daemen to three conference wins.

Rookie of the Week
Julia DeBeatham, Queens (Fr, G - Menands, N.Y.)
After missing the last three games, DeBeatham led the Knights' offense averaging 15.0 points on 50.0 percent shooting, 5.0 rebounds, & 4.5 assists per game in the 1-1 week. DeBeatham tallied a career-high 15 points to help Queens defeat AIC for the first time in program history. The Menands native would match the career-high with another 15 points against Molloy on Sunday.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Trinity Hudson, Molloy (So, G - Glen Cove, N.Y.)
Hudson tallied 16 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, four steals, and two blocked shots in the team's win over Queens Sunday, January 30.

Latavia Jackson, Dist. Columbia (So, G - Waldorf, Md.)

After a month off, Jackson averaged 15.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game, on the week. She posted a double-double in the Firebirds win over D'Youville with 10 points and 10 rebounds while also adding three assists and three steals. In the game against Daemen, she led all scorers with 21 points and grabbed three rebounds.

Janiece Loney, Bridgeport (Gr, G - Herndon, Va.)
Loney helped UB go 2-0 last week and run its winning streak to three games by averaging 15.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game. She also connected on 50 percent of her three-point shots in the two games, going 7-of-14 from distance. In a Wednesday home win over STAC, Janiece led the Purple Knights in scoring with 21 points, and she followed that up with 10 points in a win at Mercy on Sunday. So far this year, Loney is averaging 14.5 points per game.

Taryn Wilson, Roberts Wesleyan (Sr, G - Honeoye Falls, N.Y. )

Ryles Wilson averaged 17.0 points 4.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.7 steals per game in a 2-1 week for Roberts Wesleyan. She shot 47.4 percent on the week (18-for-38).

ECC Team Notes

Bridgeport: The Bridgeport women's basketball heads into this week's play, home games versus D'Youville on Wednesday night and Daemen on Saturday afternoon, on a three-game winning streak which gives the Purple Knights an overall record of 6-12 and an ECC mark of 3-8. Samirah Henderson leads UB in scoring averaging 16.8 points per game. She is joined in double-digit scoring by Janiece Loney at 14.5 ppg., Brianna Meekins at 12.7 ppg., and Stephanie McBride is averaging a double-double per game at 12.4 points and a conference and team-best 11.3 rebounds per game. McBride has recorded a double-double in points and rebounds in her last four games and also has blocked a team-high 30 shots so far this season.

Daemen: Daemen improved to 12-3 overall and 10-0 in ECC play with a trifecta of wins last week, defeating D'Youville (79-46), CSI (73-48), and UDC (61-51). The Wildcats are unbeaten in 10 straight games overall, 19 straight regular season ECC games, and 30 straight regular season ECC home games. Daemen heads into February with a three-game lead in the conference standings. They'll visit Roberts Wesleyan (2/2) and Bridgeport (2/5) this week.

District of Columbia: The Firebirds split a pair of games last week to move to 9-9 (5-4 ECC) on the season. The Firebirds started the week with an 85-59 win over D'Youville, before falling 61-51 to first place Daemen. This week, UDC hosts Molloy on Wednesday before hitting the road to visit Queens on Saturday.

D'Youville: No team notes submitted.

Mercy: The Mercy College women's basketball team went 0-2 on the week with losses to Roberts Wesleyan and Bridgeport. The Mavericks were led by junior Katie Wall who averaged a team-high 16.5 points per game. Mercy resumes action on Wednesday when they play at STAC at 5:30 p.m.

Molloy: The Lions defeated the Queens College Knights, 66-44, Sunday, January 30 to improve to 8-8 overall and 5-4 in ECC play. Sophomore Trinity Hudson tallied 16 points and 11 rebounds, senior Gabriella Aspura netted 16 points, and graduate student Maya Thomas and junior Cameron Corbett scored 12 points each.

Queens: Women's basketball opens the week with a match-up at College of Staten Island Wednesday evening before hosting the District of Columbia Saturday afternoon.

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts Women's basketball team extended its winning streak to six games before falling to STAC on Sunday in a makeup game from December. The Redhawks grabbed wins over Mercy (57-55), and STAC (65-49), but lost to STAC in Sunday's matchup, 62-54.

Staten Island: The CSI Women dropped two out of the three games they played this past week. Last Monday they played Chestnut Hill then went on to play ECC foe Daemen. CSI then went on to beat D'Youville snapping a five-game losing streak. Next up they will host Queens College on Wednesday night.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball team (7-12, 6-4 ECC) went 1-2 last week on the road. First, the Spartans fell at Bridgeport 71-53, before losing at Roberts Wesleyan 65-49 and then beat Roberts Wesleyan in the second of back-to-back games with the Redhawks, 62-54. STAC next hosts Mercy on February 2 (5:30 p.m.) and Molloy on February 6 (3:00 p.m.).
