ECC Women's Basketball Report - Week Four

Player of the Week
Latavia Jackson, District of Columbia (So, G - Waldorf, Md.)
Jackson helped the Firebirds go 2-1 on the week by scoring in double figures all three games to average 17.3 points per game. She also added 9.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. In the loss against Bloomfield, she put up a game-high 20 points also contributed eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals. In the Firebird's first conference win of the season over Molloy, she registered a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds. She also helped the Firebirds to a victory over Bowie with 12 points, a team-high seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Defensive Player of the Week
Stephanie McBride, Bridgeport (Jr, C - Brooklyn, N.Y.)
McBride continued to be a force in the paint for the Purple Knights grabbing 15 rebounds (12 defensive boards), making two steals and blocking a shot in UB's win over previously unbeaten Pace University last Friday night. She also chipped in seven points and had two assists in Bridgeport's only action last week. Stephanie is averaging a double-double so far this season, leading UB in rebounding averaging 10.3 rebounds and 13.5 points per outing,

Rookie of the Week
Destiny Ryles, District of Columbia (Fr, G - Windsor Mill, Md.)
Ryles helped the Firebirds go 2-1 on the week scoring in double figures in all three games to average 15.0 points per game on 44.7 percent shooting (17-for-38). She also added 7.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 3.3 steals per game,  In the Firebirds' first conference win of the season over Molloy, she registered a game-high 22 points while packing the stat sheet with six rebounds, five assists, and six steals. In the win over Bowie, she came off the bench to contribute 13 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Samirah Henderson, Bridgeport (Sr, G - Rahway, N.J.)
Henderson helped lead the Purple Knights to a win over previously unbeaten Pace in the team's only action last week with a solid all-around game in which she scored 18 points, grabbed eight rebounds, dished off seven assists, made five steals, and blocked one shot. So far this season, Samirah leads UB in scoring averaging 18.7 points per game, plus she leads the team in assists with 25 and is tied for the team lead in steals.

Anna Jankovic, D'Youville (Fr., G - Averill Park, N.Y.)
Raised her scoring average to 14.2, which is second on the Saints after averaging 20.0 per game last week ... shot over 50-percent from the field in both games and has done that in three straight contests ... Had seven steals against Villa Maria which is a single-game high in the ECC and is T6th in all of Division II this season ... The 26 points and 14 rebounds vs Villa Maria was her second double-double of the season ...

Katie Titus, Daemen (Sr, F - Penfield, N.Y.)
Recorded her fourth double-double in five games this season, finishing with 18 points and 12 rebounds in a two-point setback to regionally-ranked Stonehill.

Katie Wall, Mercy (Jr, G - Wappingers Falls, N.Y.)
Wall had a team-high 20 points on 8-of-18 shooting with five rebounds, four assists and four steals at Bloomfield on Saturday.

ECC Team Notes

Bridgeport: The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team picked up a big win over previously unbeaten Pace University in the team's only action last week to even the Purple Knights? season record at 3-3. UB will be busy this week playing three road games as part of a four-game sojourn away from Hubbell Gym. Bridgeport is at Felician on Tuesday before traveling to play at D'Youville and Friday and Daemen on Sunday. Samirah Henderson leads Bridgeport in scoring averaging 18.7 points per game, plus she leads the team with 25 assists so far this season. Henderson is joined in double-digit scoring by three teammates, Stephanie McBride at 13.5 ppg., Janiece Loney at 13.2 ppg. and Brianna Meekins at 12.5 ppg. McBride is averaging a double-double per game, as she leads Bridgeport on the glass grabbing an average of 10.3 boards per outing. Stephanie has also blocked a team-best 12 shots through six games so far this season.

Daemen: Daemen suffered a 68-66 loss to Stonehill in a matchup of teams included in the D2SIDA East Region media poll. The loss dropped the Wildcats to 2-3 this season. Redshirt senior guard Tiara Filbert moved into 15th place on Daemen's all-time scoring list with 1,137 points in 98 games. The Wildcats are 63-13 in their last 76 games dating back to January 2019. Daemen hosts ECC foes Roberts Wesleyan (Dec. 8) and Bridgeport (Dec. 12) this week.

District of Columbia: UDC went 2-1 last week to move to 5-3 on the season. This week, the Firebirds host Lincoln in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday before hosting Queens in an ECC matchup on Saturday.

D'Youville: Saints went 2-0 last week with wins over Villa Maria and Bryant & Stratton - Albany ... The 5-1 start is the best for D'Youville since 2014-15 ... The Saints tallied 42 steals, which raised its league-leading total to 14.6 thefts per game ... Saints open ECC play on Friday with Bridgeport ...

Mercy: The Mercy College women's basketball team went 0-1 on the week with a loss to Bloomfield. The Mavericks were led by junior Katie Wall who had a team-high 20 points. Mercy resumes action on Wednesday when they host STAC at 5 p.m.

Molloy: The Lions went 0-2 last week to move to 3-5 overall and 0-1 in ECC play. Molloy fell to UDC, 72-69, Wednesday, December 1 and AIC, 52-48, Sunday, December 5. Senior Gabriella Aspuru led the team with 21 points, and sophomore Trinity Hudson tallied a double-double with 10 points and a team-high 11 rebounds against UDC. Against AIC, graduate student Safiyyah Lee tallied 17 points and 12 rebounds for her third double-double in the last four games, and Aspuru added 14 points.

Queens: The Knights begin conference play against fellow CUNY member College of Staten Island as the homestand comes to a close. Wednesday meeting will be the first meeting in program history for both teams.

Roberts Wesleyan: No team notes submitted.

Staten Island: The Dolphins game vs Caldwell was postponed. A make-up game has not been scheduled yet. They will face Queens College on Wednesday night.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball team (1-7) went 0-2 last week. First, the Spartans fell to Post, 63-56, then lost at Chestnut Hill, 61-52. STAC opens its ECC schedule at Mercy on Dec. 8 (5 p.m.), before facing Pace on Dec. 12 (1 p.m.).
