ECC Women's Basketball Report - Week Two

Player of the Week
Katie Wall, Mercy (Jr, G - Wappingers Falls, N.Y.)
Wall averaged a team-high 24.0 points per game on 62.5 percent shooting with 5.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game as Mercy went 2-0 on the week. The junior opened the week with a game-high 23 points on 6-for-11 shooting with a game-high seven assists and four steals in the win over Felician on Wednesday. The guard ended the week with a game-high 25 points on 9-for-13 shooting with four assists and three rebounds in the win at Goldey-Beacom on Saturday.

Defensive Player of the Week
Asha Talib, Mercy (Jr, G - Allentown, Pa.)
Talib averaged 11.0 points and a team-high 11.5 rebounds per game with 2.5 steals and 1.0 blocks per game as Mercy went 1-0 on the week. The junior opened the week with a double-double by way of 14 points and 13 rebounds to go along with three steals in the win over Felician on Wednesday. Talib ended the week with eight points, 10 rebounds, two steals and two blocks in the win over Goldey-Beacom on Saturday.

Rookie of the Week
Jenalyse Alarcon, Staten Island (Fr, F - Troy, N.Y.)
Alarcon posted a double-double of 15 points and an ECC season-high 21 rebounds in an overtime loss to New Haven. The freshman forward shot 38.5 percent (5-for-13) and added three assists, two blocks, and one steal on the evening. 


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Khadija Demry, Queens (N.Y.) (Jr, G - Brooklyn, N.Y.)
On Saturday afternoon Demry noticed her third straight game in double-digits as she tallied a career-high 24 points. It was the second 20-point effort for the Brooklyn native. She would finish 5-of-5 from the field in the first quarter as she single-handled kept Queens in the game against Post University.

Safiyyah Lee, Molloy (Gr, F - Voorhees, N.J.)
Lee averaged 19 points and eight rebounds on the week. The graduate student netted 19 points in the games against Hofstra, where she shot 9-of-11 from the foul line and 4-of-6 from the field, and Holy Family.

Stephanie McBride, Bridgeport (Jr, C - Brooklyn, N.Y.)
McBride had an impressive double-double scoring 18.0 points and grabbing 11 rebounds to help the Purple Knights come back from 15 points down to post the team's first win of the 2021-22 at Bloomfield last week in the squad's only action. Stephanie also blocked two shots for the winners on the night. So far this season, she is averaging 13.7 points and a team-best 8.7 rebounds per game.

Katie Titus, Daemen (Sr, F - Penfield, N.Y.)
Titus averaged 14.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game to help Daemen split a pair of contests at the Lady Chap Classic hosted by defending national champion Lubbock Christian... she registered her third-straight double-double in a 54-53 win over Angelo State, finishing with 22 points and 10 rebounds... during the course of the game, Titus became the 27th member of Daemen's 1,000 point club, making her only the fourth player in team history to reach 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 100 blocks... in 77 career games, Titus has scored 1,026 points, ranking 24th in team history.

ECC Team Notes

Bridgeport: The UB women's basketball team enters play this week's action, games at Post University on Tuesday night and home versus Nyack on Saturday afternoon, with a 1-2 overall record after coming back from 15 points down to win at Bloomfield last Tuesday. Four UB players are averaging in double-digit scoring led by Samirah Henderson at 14.7 points per game. She is followed by Janiece Loney at 14.0 ppg., Stephanie McBridge at 13.7 ppg, and Brianna Meekins is scoring an even 13 points per game. McBride leads UB in rebounding averaging 8.7 boards per game.

Daemen: Daemen traveled to The Lone Star State where they managed to split a pair of games at the Lady Chap Classic hosted by Lubbock Christian. The Wildcats gutted out a 54-53 win over Angelo State behind Katie Titus' double-double (22 points, 10 rebounds) and some late heroics from Mickayla Ivy (go-ahead field goal with 19 seconds left). The trip ended sourly as the Wildcats dropped a 62-37 decision to No. 1/No. 10 Lubbock Christian in a rematch of last season's Elite Eight game. Now at 2-2, the Wildcats are idle this week. They'll host Stonehill in their home opener on Tuesday, Nov. 30.

District of Columbia: After going 2-1 with wins over Nyack and Millersville last week, UDC takes a week break and will be back in action on November 29th to face off against Bloomfield.

D'Youville: D'Youville is off to a 3-0 start for the first time since the 2014-15 season ... Last week the Saints picked up wins over Bryant & Stratton Buffalo and Buffalo State ... Anna Jankovic had 20 points and 13 rebounds against Buffalo State on Saturday ... Sara Pfeiffer had 28 points in the win over Bryant & Stratton ... The Saints open up their home schedule on Tuesday against Bryant & Stratton ...

Mercy: The Mercy College women's basketball team went 2-0 on the week with wins over Felician and Goldey-Beacom. The Mavericks were led by junior Katie Wall who led the team in scoring and assists. Mercy resumes action on Tuesday, November 23rd when they host Caldwell at 5 p.m.

Molloy: Molloy topped Chestnut Hill 66-51 to open the season before falling 66-53 against Jefferson. The Lions will face Division I neighbor Hofstra on Wednesday.

Queens: Women's basketball team will be the lone team in action this week at Queens as they open a four-game homestand starting on Tuesday against the Golden Falcons of Felician University with tipoff scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Following the Thanksgiving break, the Knights will welcome the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. tipoff.

Roberts Wesleyan: No team notes submitted.

Staten Island: The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball played some thrilling basketball tonight, but they ultimately fell to the University of New Haven Chargers in overtime, 72-64. The loss drops CSI's record to 1-2 overall. Up next the Dolphins will host Nyack College.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball team went 1-1 last week. First, the Spartans fell at Caldwell, 63-42, before picking up their first win of the season at Felician, 68-63. STAC hosts Georgian Court on Nov. 23 (5:30 p.m.) and then travels to New Haven on Nov. 28 (2 p.m.).
