ECC Women's Basketball Report - Week Six

Player of the Week
Katie Titus, Daemen (Sr, F - Penfield, N.Y.)
Titus recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 26 points and 16 rebounds to lead Daemen past Staten Island for their 12th consecutive ECC win dating back to last season. It marked her fourth game this season with at least 20 points.

Defensive Player of the Week
Katie Titus, Daemen (Sr, F - Penfield, N.Y.)
Titus recorded a career-high six steals to go with two blocks and 12 defensive rebounds during Daemen's 76-59 win over Staten Island.

Rookie of the Week
Haleigh Schafer, D'Youville (Fr., G - Eggharbor City, N.J.)
Schafer scored 27 points in D'Youville's 87-57 win over Staten Island on Dec. 19. She shot 47.1 percent from the field (8-for-17) and nailed 10 of her 13 attempts from the charity stripe. The Eggharbor City, N.J. native is averaging 12.6 points per game this season and has scored 20+ points in her last two games.



ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Anna Jankovic, D'Youville (Fr, G - Averill Park, N.Y.)
Freshman guard Anna Jankovic had a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds to go along with four steals and two blocks in D'Youville's 87-57 victory over Staten Island on Dec. 19. 

Safiyyah Lee, Molloy (Gr, F - Voorhees, N.J.)

Lee tallied 15 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and four blocks in Molloy's win over Queens.

Noemia Massingue, Staten Island (Fr, F - Matola, Maputo, Mozambique)
Massingue averaged 14.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 2.3 steals per game over three contests last week. She shot 50.0 percent from the floor (14-for-28). Her best outing of the week came in an ECC tilt vs. Daemen in which she scored 20 points, pulled down eight rebounds, and swiped four steals.

Kellie Nudd, Mercy (Jr, F - Colchester, Conn.)
Nudd averaged a team-high 17.0 points per game on 44.8 percent shooting with 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.0 steals per game as Mercy went 2-0. The junior opened the week with 17 points, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals in the win over Roberts Wesleyan on Friday. Nudd ended the week with 17 points and six rebounds in the win over Bridgeport on Sunday.

ECC Team Notes

Bridgeport: The UB women's basketball team heads in the Holiday Break with a 3-8 overall record, and the Purple Knights stand at 0-4 in conference play. Samirah Henderson leads UB in scoring averaging 18.9 points per game. She is joined in double figures by three teammates, Janiece Loney, who netted a career-high 25 points versus Mercy on Sunday, at 13,7 ppg., Brianna Meekins at 12.8 ppg., and Stephanie McBride at 10.4 points per outing. McBride also is averaging a double-double per game, as she is grabbing a team-best 10.2 board per game. She also leads the team with 18 blocked shots.

Daemen: Behind four double-figure scorers and timely three-point shooting, Daemen won its third straight ECC contest, 76-59, against newcomer Staten Island. Coming off a career-high 38 points against Bridgeport, senior Katie Titus once again paced the Wildcats and recorded game-highs with 26 points and 16 rebounds - her sixth double-double of the season. It marked the 150th collegiate head coaching victory for Jenepher Banker as the Wildcats improved to 5-3 overall and 3-0 in conference play. Daemen's game at UDC scheduled for Sunday was postponed due to COVID-19 protocols meaning the Wildcats will be idle until Dec. 30 when they host Le Moyne.

District of Columbia: UDC lost to Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday before having home games against D'Youville and Daemen postponed. The Firebirds, who are now 6-5 (2-0 ECC), will return to the action on December 30 when they visit Salem (W.Va.).

D'Youville: D'Youville topped Staten Island, 87-57, to move to 7-2 (2-1 ECC) on the season. The Saints will next return to the court for a New Year's Eve matinee against Clarion.

Mercy: The Mercy College women's basketball team went 2-0 on the week with wins over Roberts Wesleyan and Bridgeport to improve to 3-0 in ECC play for the first time since 1992-93. Mercy was led by junior Kellie Nudd who averaged a team-high 17 points per game. Mercy resumes action on January 5th when they host Queens at 5 p.m.

Molloy: The Lions defeated Queens, 64-50, Wednesday, December 15 to improve to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in ECC play. Molloy had four student-athletes score in double figures. Graduate student Safiyyah Lee tallied 15 points and eight rebounds, and graduate student Maya Thomas recorded 14 points and eight rebounds.

Queens: Queens fell to Molloy in their last home game of the 2021 schedule. The Knights will return to action on Dec 30th when they take on Nyack College to conclude the 2021 year.

Roberts Wesleyan: The Redhawks fell to 4-5 (1-2 ECC) with a 68-63 loss to Mercy. Roberts' final game of the week against St. Thomas Aquinas was postponed. The Redhawks are now idle until they host Staten Island on January 5. 

Staten Island: The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team returned to conference action last Friday night as they were defeated by the Daemen College Wildcats, 76-59. The Dolphins played ECC foe D'youville where they lost to the saints 87-57. The Dolphins play next on New Year's Eve at Pace.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball team (2-9, 1-1 ECC) went 1-0 last week, defeating Bridgeport 64-49. STAC returns to action, closing out 2021, against Saint Rose on Dec. 31 (1:00 p.m.).
