ECC Men's Soccer Report - Week Seven

Offensive Player of the Week
Gio Fabiano, Molloy (So, F - Carle Place, N.Y.)
Fabiano netted a pair of goals on the week, including the game-winning goal in Molloy's win over Assumption. To go along with the two goals, Fabiano totaled six shots including four on goal for the week.

Defensive Player of the Week
Eirik Elvestad, Mercy (So, GK - Oslo, Norway)
Elvestad went 1-0-1 with 10 saves, a .909 save percentage, and a 0.50 goals-against average with one shutout. The sophomore opened the week with five saves in the Mavericks' shutout win over regionally-ranked Southern N.H. on Wednesday. Elvestad ended the week with five saves in Mercy's 1-1 tie against STAC on Saturday.

Rookie of the Week
Mathias Schilbred-Eriksen, Mercy (Fr, B - Bergen, Norway)
Schilbred-Eriksen had an assist and helped lead a defense that allowed just one goal in two games.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Dario Cruz, Queens (Sr, GK - Guadalajara, México)
Cruz made 11 saves on the week including five saves in the 2-0 victory over UDC in ECC play. The senior earned his fourth ECC shutout and sixth overall of the season.

Jared Gibbons, Roberts Wesleyan (Sr, GK - Johannesburg, South Africa)
Gibbons went 2-0-0 with 10 saves and a .909 save percentage last week. The senior keeper made six saves in a 3-1 win over Slippery Rock and followed with four saves in a 3-0 shutout over Staten Island. 

Dylan Ruiz, Roberts Wesleyan (Sr, F - Mexico City, Mexico)
Ruiz had two goals and an assist in the Redhawks' 3-0 win over Staten Island. 

Nicholas Tagios, Queens (Jr, F - East Williston, N.Y.)
It took 30 seconds of magic as Nick Tagios stunned UDC with a brace to lead the Knights to a 2-0 victory in ECC play. Tagios notched the fourth game-winning goal of his career as Queens shutout their fourth ECC opponent of the season to move to 4-2 in conference play.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: Daemen (4-5-2, 1-3-1 ECC) suffered road losses to a pair of regionally-ranked teams last week, suffering a 5-1 setback at Gannon and a 2-0 loss at Molloy. The Wildcats will make the quick trip to Syracuse, N.Y. to face Le Moyne in a non-conference match Wednesday, before hosting cross-town rival D'Youville in an East Coast Conference match Saturday afternoon at Karrer Field. The Wildcats have allowed one goal or less in eight of their 11 games and rank third among ECC teams in fewest goals allowed (16). Senior Derek Bartlo (Williamsville, N.Y.) leads the team in goals (4), assists (3) and points (11). Graduate student Marcos Lerma Escobar (Zaragoza, Spain) has started 10 of the 11 games in goal. He ranks second among the ECC leaders in save percentage (.797) and third in total saves (59).

Mercy: The No. 24 Mercy College men's soccer team went 1-0-1 on the week with a win over Southern N.H. and a tie against STAC. Mercy was led by sophomore Luis Silva who had a team-high two goals on the week. The Mavericks resume action on Saturday, October 15th when they play at Staten Island at 2 p.m.

Molloy: The Lions went 1-0-1 on the week, drawing Bloomfield, 0-0, and defeating Queens, 2-1. Molloy now sits at 5-2-5 overall and 4-0-1 in ECC play. Molloy will host Assumption Wednesday (Oct. 5) and ECC foe Daemen Saturday (Oct. 8).

Queens: The Knights went 1-1 on the week as they fell to Seton Hill Wednesday evening. They would conclude the week with a 2-0 victory over UDC as Nick Tagios tallied two goals in 30 seconds. Queens returns to non-conference action as they host Holy Family Tuesday evening before the week on senior night against Bloomfield Saturday evening.

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts Wesleyan men's soccer team improved to 7-4-2 with two wins last week. The Redhawks had a 3-1 win over Slippery Rock and a 3-0 win over CSI. Roberts will host Molloy on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

Staten Island: The Dolphins put their two-game winning streak on the line in Philadelphia on Wednesday where they took on Chestnut Hill College in a non-conference matchup.  Minus several key players, the Dolphins fell by a 2-0 final score.  Following Wednesday's loss, the team returned to conference play on Saturday against Roberts Wesleyan and once again failed to score in a 3-0 defeat.

St. Thomas Aquinas: St. Thomas Aquinas (4-4-4, 0-2-3 ECC) went 0-1-1 on the week, falling to Saint Rose 2-1, before tying Mercy 1-1. STAC hosts Bloomsburg on October 12 (2:30 p.m.) and then visits UDC on October 15 (1:00 p.m.).
