ECC Men's Soccer Report - Week Two

Offensive Player of the Week
Kevon Evans, St. Thomas Aquinas (So, M - Ossining, N.Y.)
Evans tallied three goals over STAC's two contests last week. Evans recorded a two-goal performance in the Spartans' 3-2 victory over Alliance University.

Defensive Player of the Week
Harry Firth, Daemen (Jr, GK - Reading, England)
A transfer from Wheeling University, Firth made his first career start with Daemen and stopped seven of eight shots during a 2-1 win over Malone.

Rookie of the Week
Nicolas Cerda, Mercy (Fr, F - Santiago, Chile)
Cerda had a team-high two goals and four points on the week. The freshman scored a goal against Adelphi on Wednesday and added another against Southern Connecticut State on Saturday.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Derek Bartlo, Daemen (Sr, M - Williamsville, N.Y.)
Played all 180 minutes during a 1-0-1 week. Assisted on Daemen's first goal and netted the game-winning goal in the 74th minute during a 2-1 win over Malone.

Jared Gibbons, Roberts Wesleyan (Sr, GK - Johannesburg, South Africa)
Gibbons went 2-1-0 in net for the Redhawks last week. He made 12 saves and finished with a .800 save percentage over the three contests.

Ado Martinez Paquet, Queens (So, M - Sevilla, Spain)
The sophomore tallied a season-high three points in the 2-1 victory over Chestnut Hill. Paquet notched his second game-winner of the season as he scored from the penalty mark. Earlier in the match, he would tally his first assist of the season on freshman Bryce Cherry's first goal.

Alex Perez, Roberts Wesleyan (Gr, M - Panama City, Panama)
Perez had five points on two goals and an assist over three games last week. He started the week with the game-winner in the Redhawks' 3-0 win over St. Michael's. He then added a goal and an assist in a 3-1 win over Malone to wrap up the week.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen:  The Wildcats remained unbeaten (2-0-1) on the year after defeating Malone (2-1) and playing Walsh to the 1-1 draw last week. Daemen is off to its best start since 2010 when the Wildcats opened 4-0-1. Freshman Riccardo Boscolo Bachetto netted his team-leading third goal of the year in the win over Malone. Daemen is idle until Saturday (Sept. 10) when it hosts Mercy in the ECC opener for both teams.

District of Columbia:  UDC men's soccer team took their first loss of the season in a home match up against West Chester University on Wednesday. They traveled to Boston on Saturday, where they faced off against AIC which ended in a 1-1 draw. They will host East Stroudsburg on Tuesday before heading to Slippery Rock on Saturday.

D'Youville:  Men's soccer picked up their first win of the season, defeating Pitt-Johnstown at home 3-0. The Saints are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 10 for their first conference match of the season. They are on the road at Queens for a 2:30 p.m. matchup.

Mercy:  The Mercy College men's soccer team went 0-1-1 this week with a tie against Adelphi and a loss to Southern Connecticut State. The Mavericks were led by freshman Nicolas Cerda who scored a team-high two goals. Mercy resumes action on Wednesday when they host AIC at 3 p.m.

Molloy: The Lions went 0-1-1 on the week. The cardinal and white battled Dominican to a 2-2 tie Wednesday night before falling to the College of Saint Rose, 2-0, Saturday afternoon

Queens:  Men's soccer went 1-1 on the week including a 2-1 victory against Chestnut Hill College at home. freshman Bryce Cherry (Amityville, N.Y.) scored his first collegiate goal. While Adolfo Martinez Paquet (Sevilla, N.Y.) tallied a season-high three points with his second game-winning goal and an assist in the victory. The Knights open the week against Jefferson at home on Wednesday evening before opening ECC play against D'Youville in Buffalo.

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts Wesleyan men's soccer team had a busy three-game week, finishing the stretch 2-1. The Redhawks picked up wins over Saint Michael's (3-0) and Malone (3-1). Roberts will travel to Saint Anselm on Wednesday before returning home to host STAC on Saturday.

Staten Island: No team notes submitted.

St. Thomas Aquinas: St. Thomas Aquinas (2-1) went 1-1 on the week, falling at Franklin Pierce 4-1, before picking up a 3-2 home victory over Alliance University. Kevon Evans recorded three goals on the week, while Jorge Umana tallied one. STAC resumes play on September 7 at Chestnut Hill (7 p.m.) and then at Roberts Wesleyan on September 10 (3:30 p.m.).
