ECC Men's Soccer Report - Week Four

Offensive Player of the Week
Adolfo Martinez Paquet, Queens (So, M - Sevilla, Spain)
Paquet continued his rich form as the sophomore netted two game-winners and four points in the Knights' 2-0 week. The Sevilla native began the week with a goal against nationally ranked No. 15 Southern Connecticut St. before ending the week with a goal against Daemen in the Knights' 3-0 victory over the Wildcats in ECC play.

Defensive Player of the Week
Dario Cruz, Queens (Sr, GK - Guadalajara, México)
Playing a total of 176 minutes Cruz made four saves in the Knights' 2-0 shutout week which included a 3-0 victory over nationally ranked No. 15 Southern Connecticut St. on Wednesday evening. The senior would make two saves in Queens' 3-0 victory over Daemen Saturday afternoon as the Knights earned their fourth straight and second straight conference victory of the year. The goalie earned his 14th career victory to take sole possession of second place on the all-time career wins list in program history.

Rookie of the Week
Christian Ferlisi, St. Thomas Aquinas (Fr, M/B - Toronto, Ontario)
Ferlisi tallied a pair of goals over two contests last week for STAC. Ferlisi scored the opening goals against East Stroudsburg both and Molloy.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Bryce Cherry, Queens (Fr, F - Amityville, N.Y.)
The rookie totaled two goals for four points in the Knights' 2-0 week. Cherry would help Queens defeat nationally ranked #15 SCSU 3-0 Wednesday evening before ending the week with his first conference goal of the season in the 3-0 win over Daemen Saturday afternoon.

Tamas Nagy, Roberts Wesleyan (Jr, F - Szár, Hungary)
Evans recorded a goal and two assists last week for STAC. Evans tallied a goal and a helper against East Stroudsburg and then assisted on the Spartans only goal against Molloy.

Jorge Umana, St. Thomas Aquinas (Sr, F - Orangeburg, N.Y.)Nagy totaled five points in a 2-0 week for the Redhawks. He began the week with a goal and two assists in a 5-0 win over Seton Hill. He followed with an assist in a 2-1 win over ECC foe, UDC. 

Benjamin Van Buren, Mercy (Sr, B - Anderson, S.C.)
Van Buren scored the game-winning goal in Mercy's win over D'Youville on Saturday and helped lead a defense that posted two shutouts on the week in 180 minutes played.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: Daemen (2-3-1, 0-2-0) suffered road losses to 12th-ranked Mercyhurst (1-0) and Queens (3-0) last week. Prior to Saturday's 3-0 loss to Queens, the Wildcats had held each of their first five opponents to just one goal. Daemen plays just one game this week, a non-conference tilt at Chestnut Hill on Wednesday.

District of Columbia:  Men's Soccer split the week, defeating Gannon 1-0, and then falling to Roberts Wesleyan 2-1 in their first ECC match up of the season. The win against Gannon marked the first time in almost 20 years that UDC has beaten them. Next up, UDC will head to N.Y. to face off against Molloy.

D'Youville: No team notes submitted.

Mercy: The No. 24 Mercy College men's soccer team went 2-0 on the week with wins over Jefferson and D'Youville. The Mavericks were led by senior Benjamin Van Buren who scored the game-winning goal against the Saints. Mercy resumes action on Wednesday when they host Queens at 3 p.m.

Molloy: The Lions went 0-1-1 on the week. Molloy fell to local rival Adelphi, 2-1, Wednesday, September 14, and tied STAC with a goal in the final five minutes, 1-1, Saturday, September 17.

Queens:  The Knights went 2-0 on the week as they tallied a combined six goals to shutout No. 15 Southern Connecticut St. and Daemen. Queens opens a two-game road trip as they take on Mercy College Wednesday (9/21) afternoon before concluding the road trip against Roberts Wesleyan University Saturday (9/24) afternoon.

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts men's soccer team picked up two wins last week, beating Seton Hill and UDC. The Redhawks will travel to D'Youville on Wednesday before returning home for a homecoming weekend game against Queens.

Staten Island: No team notes submitted.

St. Thomas Aquinas: St. Thomas Aquinas (3-1-3) went 1-0-1 on the week, picking up a victory over East Stroudsburg (4-2) and a draw against Molloy (1-1). STAC next visits Staten Island on September 24 (2:00 p.m.).
