ECC Men's Soccer Report - Week Six

Offensive Player of the Week
Derek Bartlo, Daemen (Sr, M - Williamsville, N.Y.)
Bartlo played a role in all three Daemen goals last week. He assisted on Daemen's lone goal in a 1-1 draw with Roberts Wesleyan and totaled a goal and an assist in a 2-0 win at St. Thomas Aquinas. Bartlo has now registered a team-high nine points (3 G, 3 A) on the year.

Defensive Player of the Week
Marcos Lerma Escobar, Daemen (Gr, GK - Zaragoza, Spain)
Lerma Escobar turned away 16 of 17 shots on goal during a 1-0-1 week while playing against the top two offenses in the league. He stopped eight shots in a 1-1 draw with Roberts Wesleyan and made eight saves en route to his second shutout of the year in a 2-0 win at St. Thomas Aquinas.

Rookie of the Week
Finlay Armond, Queens (Fr, M - Sleaford, England)
Armond tallied two goals on the week as the Knights went 1-1. The English native notched his first collegiate goal as the rookie tallied the game-winner in the 1-0 win over Georgian Court. He would respond with his second goal of the week as Queens looked for a comeback against Molloy on Saturday evening.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Daniel Angulo, Staten Island (Jr, M - Staten Island, N.Y.)
Angulo had three points with a goal and an assist in the Dolphins' 4-1 win over D'Youville last week. 

Nick Conklu, Molloy (Sr, GK - Arlington, Va.)
Conklu made two starts on the week, the graduate student made seven saves against Bloomfield in Molloy's 0-0 draw, and converted four saves against Queens to lead Molloy to a 2-1 victory.

Jonas Jacobsen, Molloy (Jr, B - Larvik, Norway)
Jacobsen played a key role as part of the Molloy backline. Jacobsen was part of the defense that held Bloomfield scoreless in the 0-0 draw. He also assisted on both goals in Molloy's, 2-0, victory over Queens College.

Jorge Umana, St. Thomas Aquinas (Sr, F - Orangeburg, N.Y.)
Umana recorded a goal and two assists in STAC's 4-1 victory over Saint Anselm.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: Daemen (4-3-2, 1-2-1 ECC) is unbeaten in its last three games and is coming off a 2-0 win at St. Thomas Aquinas this past Saturday. The Wildcats will face two regionally-ranked teams on the road this week in Gannon (10/5) and Molloy (10/8). The Wildcats have allowed one goal or less in eight of their nine games and rank first among ECC teams in fewest goals allowed (9). Senior Derek Bartlo (Williamsville, N.Y.) has played a role in each of Daemen's last three goals. He assisted on the Wildcat's lone goal in a 1-1 draw with Roberts Wesleyan last week and totaled a goal and an assist in the win over STAC Saturday. Bartlo has totaled a team-high nine points (3 gls, 3 asts) on the year. Graduate student Marcos Lerma Escobar (Zaragoza, Spain) stopped 16 of 17 shots on goal last week and recorded his second shutout of the year in the win over STAC. He leads the ECC in save percentage (.843) and is tied for the league lead in goals against average (1.00 GAA).

District of Columbia: UDC fell to Mercy 4-2 in a conference match up. They will head to N.Y. to face off against Queens College on Saturday.

D'Youville: No team notes submitted.

Mercy: The No. 22 Mercy College men's soccer team went 1-0 on the week with a 4-2 win at UDC on Saturday. The Mavericks were led by seniors Marco Passera and David Breitenbach, junior Daniel Rodriguez and sophomore Luis Silva who all scored in the win. Mercy resumes action on Wednesday when they host Southern N.H. at 12 p.m.

Molloy: The Lions went 1-0-1 on the week, drawing Bloomfield, 0-0, and defeating Queens, 2-1. Molloy now sits at 5-2-5 overall and 4-0-1 in ECC play. Molloy will host Assumption Wednesday (Oct. 5) and ECC foe Daemen Saturday (Oct. 8).

Queens:  The Knights went 1-1 on the week as rookie Finlay Armond tallied two goals on the week. Queens began with a 1-0 win victory over Georgian Court before the comeback against Molloy fell short. Queens will host Seton Hill in non-conference action Wednesday evening before returning to conference play against District of Columbia Saturday afternoon.

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts men's soccer team tied Daemen 1-1 last week and are now 5-4-2 this season with a 2-1-2 conference record. The Redhawks will travel to Slippery Rock on Tuesday for a non-conference matchup.

Staten Island: No team notes submitted.

St. Thomas Aquinas: St. Thomas Aquinas (4-3-3, 0-2-2 ECC) went 1-1 on the week, defeating Saint Anselm 4-1, before falling to Daemen 2-0. STAC hosts Saint Rose on October 4 (2:30 p.m.) and then visits Mercy on October 8 (12:00 p.m.).
