Men's Soccer Shutout By Daemen, 2-0

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's soccer (4-3-3, 0-2-2 ECC) suffered a 2-0 setback to Daemen University (4-3-2, 1-2-1 ECC) on Saturday afternoon at Spartan Field.

The visiting Wildcats struck for the match's opening goal in the 22nd minute, as Derek Bartlo would find Nassim Zahouani with a pass up the far sideline. Zahouani blasted a shot from 30 yards out and found the top left corner of the net, beating STAC keeper Tabor McDaniels to give Daemen a 1-0 lead.

Despite holding a 10-6 shots advantage in the first half, STAC could not solve Wildcats keeper Marcos Lerma Escobar and the visitors would take the one-goal advantage on the scoreboard into the halftime break.

STAC's offense picked up in the second half, as the maroon and gold recorded 16 shots and six corner kicks in the stanza, including several high quality chances on frame. However, the Wildcats defenders and netminder Lerma Escobar would stick to their game plan, keeping the Spartans off the scoreboard to earn the clean sheet.

Daemen got its insurance goal in the 64th minute, as on a corner kick, Derek Bartlo would head a shot that was blocked by a STAC defender. Bartlo then found the rebound and booted it to the back of the net to give the visitors from Western New York a 2-0 lead.
