ECC Indoor Track & Field Report - Week Eight

Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Ryan Karker, Roberts Wesleyan (Jr - Greece, N.Y.)
Karker ran ECC season-bests in the 800m (1:52.0) and mile at the Grand Valley State University Big Meet. Karker hit the NCAA provisional mark in the 800m and also set Roberts' all-time record in the event, as well. His time in the mile is also the second-fastest time in school history.

Men's Field Athlete of the Week
DeAndre Smith, St. Thomas Aqiunas (Sr - Brentwood, N.Y.)
Smith finished first in the High Jump at the Monmouth University Winter Collegiate Invitational. Smith recorded a leap of 2.05m (6'8.75"), which hit the NCAA Division II Provisional mark.

Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Bailey Gostomski, Roberts Wesleyan (Sr - Cattaraugus, N.Y.)
Gostomski set ECC season-best marks in the 3000m and the mile at the Grand Valley State University Big Meet. She came in first place in the 3000m (10:16.06) and fourth in the mile (5:01.85). Her time in the mile is also a new Roberts program record.

Women's Field Athlete of the Week
Aniyah Russell, Georgian Court (Sr - Jackson, N.J.)
Russell, who punched her ticket to next month's NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in Pittsburg, Kansas with a program-record leap of 6.05 meters a week ago at Boston University, followed that effort with a first-place finish of 5.97m at Monmouth. The sensational senior also placed third in the Triple Jump at 11.58m (Russell's first-ever career appearance in the event).

Men
Jeshurun Devero, Georgian Court (Sr - Toms River, N.J.)
Placed second overall in the Triple Jump with a leap of 14.09 meters in this weekend's Monmouth University Collegiate Winter Invite.

Terrance Jones, Holy Family (Jr - Newark, N.J.)
Jones broke the school record in the 60-meter hurdles two weeks after teammate Reymond Reyes set the new standard. Jones, competing in the 60-meter Hurdles Invite race, broke Reyes' mark of 8.85 seconds in the preliminaries with a time of 8.59 seconds. Jones went on to the finals and broke his new mark with a time of 8.50 seconds to finish seventh overall in the event.

Nishorn Pierre, Holy Family (Fr - Grenada)
In the triple jump, freshman Nishorn Pierre set a new school mark in his first meet with the Tigers. Pierre recorded a distance of 44' 4.25" (13.52m) to finish seventh overall. His distance broke the previous school record of 43' 8.5" (13.32m) set by Vontae Hilliard at the 2017 East Coast Conference (ECC) Championships. Pierre also competed in the high jump invite event and finished third overall with a height of 6'6" (1.98m).In the triple jump, freshman Nishorn Pierre set a new school mark in his first meet with the Tigers. Pierre recorded a distance of 44' 4.25" (13.52m) to finish seventh overall. His distance broke the previous school record of 43' 8.5" (13.32m) set by Vontae Hilliard at the 2017 East Coast Conference (ECC) Championships. Pierre also competed in the high jump invite event and finished third overall with a height of 6'6" (1.98m).

Xavier Seals, Georgian Court (So - Woodstown, N.J.)
Teamed up for a first-place finish in the 4X400 relay, and took third-overall in the 500m Run, in this weekend's Monmouth University Collegiate Winter Invitational.

Women
Ayesha Jarrett, Dist. Columbia (Fr - Kingston, Jamaica)
Jarrett ran a season-best time of 58.52 to place ninth out of 100 runners at the Fastrack National Invite. Her time was the fastest Division II time. She then went on to run another season-best time of 26.46 in the 200m to place 33rd out of a field of 142.

Abagaile Kimbrell, St. Thomas Aquinas (Gr - Monroe, N.Y.)
Kimbrell finished second in the 3000 Meter Run at the Monmouth University Winter Collegiate Invitational. She crossed the finish line in a time of 10:39.91 and was the top finisher among both Division II and ECC competitors.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: Daemen was idle last week and will remain so until the ECC Championships coming up on Feb. 26.

District of Columbia: The University of the District of Columbia's women's indoor track and field team competed at the Fastrack National Invite, showcasing a number of seasonal and personal best performances. Ayesha Jarrett ran a season-best time of 58.52s to place ninth out of a field of 100 other runners. Her time was the fastest Division II time of the day. She went on to run another season-best time of 26.46s in the 200m. Teammate Fanta Sanogo also had another day of seasonal bests running 1:00.20 in the 400 and 26.71s in the 200m. Shanise Rose ran a season-best time of 26.03s in the 200m to place 19th out of a field of 142 other runners. She also ran a season-best time of 9.20s in the 60m hurdle trials slightly missing out on the finals. Kamille Dixon wrapped up the meet for the Firebirds running a personal best time of 2:26.38. The Firebirds are off next weekend but will head back to N.Y. on the 26th to compete in the ECC Championships.

Georgian Court: Domenico Darcy, Xavier Seals, Chukwuebizie Anuamadi, and Wayne Robinson secured the Lions' men's lone first-place finish over the weekend in the two-day Monmouth University Collegiate Winter Invitational (Fri-Sat) as the quartet teamed up to take the top-spot in the 4X400m Relay with an overall time of 3:28.48. Seals also enjoyed solo success with a third-place finish in the 500m Run (1:06.92). In field competition, Jeshurun Devero soared to a second-place mark of 14.09 meters in the Triple Jump while Dylan Breen grabbed third-overall in the Long Jump at 6.94 meters. Jan Volkmar tied for third in the Pole Vault as the freshman cleared 4.40 meters. Alejandro Valdez continues to put together a solid senior season, placing third in the Shot Put (15.68m) and ninth in the Weight Throw (14.90m). Aniyah Russell, for the second-straight week, topped all-comers in the Long Jump, and Julia Kirschnick tied her team record in the Pole Vault. Russell, who punched her ticket to next month's NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in Pittsburg, Kansas with a program-record leap of 6.05 meters a week ago at Boston University, followed that effort with a first-place finish of 5.97m at Monmouth. The sensational senior also placed third in the Triple Jump at 11.58m ... Russell's FIRST EVER career appearance in the event! Kirschnick, who snapped the team Pole Vault mark in her collegiate debut back on Dec. 3 at the Fasttrack Season Opener, tied her mark of 3.35m in this event resulting in a fourth-place finish overall. Georgian Court closes out the indoor regular-season this Friday with an appearance in the Kutztown University Last Chance Meet (4:00 p.m.).

Holy Family: The Holy Family men's and women's indoor track & field teams competed at the Fastrack National Invite this past Friday at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island. On the men's side, two school records were broken. Junior Terrence Jones broke the school record in the 60-meter hurdles two weeks after teammate Reymond Reyes set the new standard. Jones, competing in the 60-meter Hurdles Invite race, broke Reyes' mark of 8.85 seconds in the preliminaries with a time of 8.59 seconds. Junior Shania Le Maitre also had a top-10 performance as she finished seventh overall in the 800-meters with a personal-best time of 2:19.34. Holy Family is idle this week and will compete next at the annual ECC Championships on Saturday, Feb. 26.

Queens: Final preparations are underway for the ECC Championships as the Knights compete in the West Point Tune-Up Saturday in West Point, N.Y.

Roberts Wesleyan: No team notes submitted.

Staten Island: The College of Staten Island Men's & Women's Indoor Track & Field teams participated in their sixth invite of the season last Friday. This time the invite was in Staten Island, N.Y. as part of the Fastrack Invitational. Up next is the ECC Championships.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Track & Field team competed at the Monmouth University Winter Collegiate Invitational, which was held at the Oceanfirst Bank Center in West Long Branch, N.J. STAC now prepares for the upcoming East Coast Conference Championships, which will be held on February 26 (9:00 a.m.) at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island.
