ECC Indoor Track & Field Report - Week Seven

Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Juan Arango, Molloy (Fr - Massapequa, N.Y.)
Arango placed second in the 60-meter running a personal best 7.24. The freshman also placed second in the 200-meter (23.42) at the Frank Colden Invitational.

Men's Field Athlete of the Week
Jeshurun Devero, Georgian Court (Sr - Toms River, N.J.)
Devero placed third-overall (11 overall entries) with a Triple Jump effort of 14.12m at Boston University Bruce Lehane Scarlett & White Invite.

Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Antonette Pommells, Molloy (Fr - Huntington Station, N.Y.)
Pommells ran a program record and ECC season-best 7.72 in the 60-meter prelims and came back with a 8.21 to place second in the final. The freshman also placed second in the 200-meter (27.06) at the Frank Colden Invitational.

Women's Field Athlete of the Week
Aniyah Russell, Georgian Court (Sr - Jackson, N.J.)
Russell made history yet again Saturday as the high-flying senior not only shredded her own team record in the Long Jump, but secured the fourth-best leap in the nation, essentially solidifying an appearance for herself in next month's NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in Pittsburg, Kansas. Russell, performing in Boston University's Bruce Lehane Scarlett & White Invite, topped all-comers in a contest chock full of Division I talent with a first-place mark of 6.05 meters. The effort smashes her previous program-best of 5.82 meters, originally established back on Feb. 29, 2020 in the Armory Leap Year Invite (New York, N.Y.).

Men
Domenico Darcy, Georgian Court (Fr - Little Egg Harbor, N.J.)
Enjoyed a third-place finish in the 400m Dash (53.30 seconds) in Saturday's Ursinus College Frank Colden Invite.

Jon Moote, Daemen (So - Wilson, N.Y.)
Moote led from start to finish in the mile and registered a personal best time of 4:35.16 eclipsing his previous best of time of 4:36.19 that he posted at the Highlander Invitational earlier this year. His time of 4:35.16 today also ranks as the fourth-fastest mile time in program history, just three seconds behind the school record of 4:32.2 set by Jeremy Rushok at the 2014 Golden Eagle Invite. Moote also ran the 3,000 meters and placed fourth out of 25 runners with a time of 9:12.69.

Women
Alyssa Harrington, Daemen (So - Tonawanda, N.Y.)
Harrington placed first out of 17 entrants in the triple jump with a personal-best leap of 10.53 meters. She eclipsed her previous best effort of 10.35 meters that she posted at the 2021 Highlander Invitational. Her leap of 10.53 meters today was just shy of the school record (10.58 meters) set by Katja Meyer at the 2019 Highlander Invitational.

Iyanna Jackson, District of Columbia (Fr - Kingston, Jamaica)
Jackson had another day full of personal bests at the East Coast Invitational. Starting with the 60m, she ran a personal best time of 7.77s in the Prelims and then went on to run another PB time of 7.74s in the finals to placed third overall. Her time was also the fastest Division II time of the day. She then capped out the day with a season-best in the 200m with a time of 25.99s which was good for ninth overall and was the fastest Division II time of the meet.

Hailee Lowe, Roberts Wesleyan (So - Alexander, N.Y.)
Lowe won the pentathlon at the Brockport Multi Event. Among pentathlon competitors, she finished first in the 60m hurdles (9.45) and the long jump (5.08m), second in the high jump (1.47m), and third in the 800m (2:49.36).

Kassandra Nolet, Daemen (Gr - Fort Erie, Ontario)
Nolet led from start to finish in the mile and placed first out of 32 runners with a personal best time of 5:17.19?eclipsing her previous best of time of 5:20.86 that she posted at the Highlander Invitational earlier this year. Her time of 5.17:19 today also ranks as the third-fastest mile time in program history, behind only Brittney Denton (5:16.70) and Mackenzie Donahue (5:05.50). Nolet finished less than a second behind teammate Marcy Colca in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:41.81.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: Daemen got first place finishes from Jon Moote (men's mile), John Bruggman (men's 500 meters), Kassandra Nolet (women's mile), Marcy Colca (women's 3,000 meters), and Alyssa Harrington (women's triple jump) while competing at the Brockport Multi this past Saturday. The Daemen men placed fourth while the women placed third in their respective team standings. Distance runners continue to be the strength of both teams. The Daemen won had five of the top seven finishers in both the mile and 3,000 meter races. The Wildcats are now idle until the ECC Championships on Feb. 26.

District of Columbia: The University of the District of Columbia's women's indoor track & Field team had a strong showing at the East Coast Invitational. Iyanna Jackson qualified for the 60m finals with a personal best time of 7.77s and went on to place third overall with another personal best time of 7.74s. Her time was also the fastest Division II time of the day. She went on to run another Season's best time in the 200m with a time of 25.99s which was good for ninth out of a field of 32 other runners. That time was also the fastest Division II time of the meet. Ayesha Jarrett placed sixth in the 400m with a personal best time of 59.39s. She also ran the 60m and the 200m with a personal best time of 26.14s. Teammate Fanta Sanogo ran a personal best of 1:02.53 in the 400m and then went on to run a personal best of 26.83s in the 200m. Shanise Rose also ran a season's best time of 26.78s in the 200m. Kamille Dixon finished off the day for the Firebirds placing third in the 800m with a time of 2:31.00. Next up UDC is headed back to Virginia Beach on the 12th to compete in their last meet before the conference championship, the Roanoake Invitational. 

Georgian Court: The Georgian Court University track & field teams split its squad Saturday with appearances in both the Boston University Bruce Lehane Scarlett & White Invite and the Ursinus College Frank Colden Invitational (Collegeville, Pa.). Aniyah Russell made history yet again Saturday as the high-flying senior not only shredded her own team record in the Long Jump, but secured the fourth-best leap in the nation, essentially solidifying an appearance for herself in next month's NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in Pittsburg, Kansas. Russell, performing in Boston University's Bruce Lehane Scarlett & White Invite, topped all-comers in a contest chock full of Division I talent with a first-place mark of 6.05 meters. The effort smashes her previous program-best of 5.82 meters, originally established back on Feb. 29, 2020 in the Armory Leap Year Invite (New York, N.Y.). Shanae Rayside (third-place) and Elena Martinez Rodriguez (seventh-place) also enjoyed success on the runway in the Triple Jump, with respective distances of 11.31m and 10.87m. The other half of the Lions' women performed at the Ursinus College Frank Colden Invitational where GCU garnered eight total Top-10 finishes. For the men, the Lions enjoyed a pair of Top-10 finishes at each site. GCU shined on the track at Ursinus with Domenico Darcy and Jarod Brzyski posting strong showings. Darcy secured a third-place finish in the 400m Dash with a speedy time of 53.30 seconds while Brzyski secured a 10th-place mark of 16:21.10 in the 5,000m Run. Up in Beantown, Georgian Court's Jeshurun Devero and Jan Volkmar provided flair in the field events in a talent-laden showcase. Devero soared to an impressive third-place finish in the Triple Jump with a leap of 14.12 meters. Volkmar, the Lions' program record-holder in the Pole Vault, took ninth-overall on Saturday after clearing a successful height of 4.50 meters. Georgian Court stays close to home next weekend with an appearance in the two-day (Friday-Saturday) Monmouth University Winter Collegiate Invitational.

Holy Family: The Holy Family University men's and women's Indoor Track & Field teams were idle last week. The Tigers return to action at the Fastrack National Invite on Friday, February 11 at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island. 

Molloy: The Lions ran in the Frank Colden Invitational Saturday, February 5. Antonette Pommells ran a program-record 7.72 in the 60-meter prelims and came back with an 8.21 to place second. The freshman placed second in the 200-meter (27.06), and junior Christi Weber finished second in the 400-meter (1:02.55) and sixth in the 200-meter (27.62). Junior Kailee Vaseghi placed second in the High Jump (1.40m) and third in the Triple Jump (9.79m). Juan Arango placed second in the 60-meter running a personal best 7.24. The freshman also placed second in the 200-meter (23.42). Freshman Billy Wren ran a 9.44, which is a personal best, in the 60-meter hurdles to place second.

Queens: The Knights return to action as they compete in the Fasttrack National Invite on Friday (Feb. 11) at Ocean Breeze Complex.

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts indoor track and field team competed at the Brockport Multi & Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Hailee Lowe highlighted the meet with a win in the women's pentathlon.

Staten Island: The College of Staten Island Men's & Women's Indoor Track & Field teams participated in their fifth invite of the season last night. This time the invite was in Washington Heights, N.Y. as part of the NYC DIII Invitational. CSI competed in eight total events with more than a few top-five finishes along with new personal, season, and school records achieved during the evening. The invite started at 4:30 PM and lasted well into the late evening with 24 other colleges in competition. Next up they will compete in the Fast Track Invite.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Track & Field team had the week off and will return to action on February 11 & 12 at the Monmouth University Winter Collegiate Invitational, which will take place at the Oceanfirst Bank Center in West Long Branch, N.J.
