ECC Indoor Track & Field Report - Week Five

Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Ryan Karker, Roberts Wesleyan (Jr - Greece, N.Y.)
Karker finished second out of 67 runners in the mile at the Houghton Highlander Invite with a time of 4:25.26. His time is the best in the ECC this season by nearly seven seconds.

Men's Field Athlete of the Week
Letlhogonolo Ramafuthula, Post (Jr - South Africa)
Ramafuthula came in first place in the triple jump at The William Sutherland III Invitational with a leap of 14.06m. It was the top distance in the event among all ECC competitors this season.

Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Martina Stanchi, Post (So - Italy)
Stanchi took first place in both the 55m (7.22) and the 200m (26.44) at The William Sutherland III Invitational. Both times were the best in the ECC so far this season (*her 55m time equates to a 60m time of 7.78, which tops the league's 60m list).

Women's Field Athlete of the Week
Shanae Rayside, Georgian Court (Sr - Lakewood, N.J.)
Rayside posted a first-place distance of 11.34 meters in the Triple Jump at Friday's Ramapo College Season Opener. Her mark is the best in the ECC so far this season by over 0.5 meters.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Men
Elizah Gordon, St. Thomas Aquinas (Jr - White Plains, N.Y.)
Gordon finished second in the 60 Meter Dash at the Ramapo College Season Opener. Gordon crossed the finish line in a time of 6.98 and was the top finisher among ECC competitors.

Jon Moote, Daemen (So - Wilson, N.Y.)
Moote took part in the mile run for the first time in his brief career and placed third out of 67 runners with a time of 4:36.19. A standout on the Daemen cross country team this past fall, Moote's time today ranks as the fourth fastest time in the mile in program history. Moote came just four seconds shy of the school record time of 4:32.62 set by Jeremy Rushok at the 2014 Golden Eagle Invite.

DeAndre Smith, St. Thomas Aquinas (Sr - Brentwood, N.Y.)
Smith placed first overall in the High Jump at the Ramapo College Season Opener with a leap of 2.00 meters/6'6.75".

Alejandro Valdez, Georgian Court (Sr - Bridgeton, N.J.)
Valdez secured a second-place showing in the Shot Put (14.81m) while also taking third in the Weight Throw (14.60m) at Friday's Ramapo College Season Opener.

Women
Bailey Gostomski, Roberts Wesleyan (Sr - Cattaraugus, N.Y.)
Gostomski came in first place in the 3000m at the Houghton Highland Invite with a time of 10:26.92.

Iyanna Jackson, District of Columbia (Fr - Kingston, Jamaica)
Jackson PR'ed in the 60m prelims at the Alvernia Winter Invite with a time of 7.89s then went on to win the finals with another PR time of 7.79s. She then ran on the 4x400m relay which placed third with a time of 4:12.30.

Shanise Rose, District of Columbia (Jr - Kingston, Jamaica)
Rose had a busy day at the Alvernia Winter Invite making it back to the finals in both the 60m and the 60mh. She ran a season-best time of 9.31s in the prelims and came back to run 9.32s to place second in the finals. In the 60m, she ran a season-best time of 8.06s in the prelims and came back to place third in the finals with a time of 8.10s. In her first time ever competing in the long jump she placed third with a leap of 5.36m and capped off the day with a sixth-place finish in the 200m.

Sydney Talyor, Daemen (Fr - Brockport, N.Y.)
Taylor set a new school record in the high jump with a leap of 1.51 meters, eclipsing the previous mark of 1.50 meters set by Katja Meyer at the 2018 Brockport Alumni & Multi Invitational and the 2019 East Coast Conference Indoor Championships.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: Daemen got their indoor season resumed this past weekend while competing at the Highlander Invitational. Kassandra Nolet set a career-best time and placed third in the mile run to pace the Daemen women. On the men's side, Jon Moote ran the mile for the first time in his career and placed third. Daemen returns to action Saturday at the Robert J. Kane Invitational at Cornell.

District of Columbia: The University of the District of Columbia's women's indoor track and field team competed in the Alvernia Winter Invite Saturday at the Alvernia University Track. Shanise Rose had a busy day competing in four different events. With a season's best qualifying time of 9.31s in the prelims of the 60m hurdles, she went on to place second out of a field of 45 after competing in the finals. She then went on to compete in the 60m dash which she placed third out of a field of 72 after qualifying for the finals with a time a season-best time of 8.06s. She also competed in the Long jump for the first time ever placing third out of a field of 36 with a leap of 5.36m. She capped off her performances with a sixth-place finish in the 200m. Teammate Iyanna Jackson had a day of personal bests. After running 7.89s in the 60m prelims she went on to run another personal best time of 7.79s in the finals to win the event placing first out of a field of 72 other sprinters. Next up the Firebirds will Head to Christopher Newport in Virginia to compete in the Vince Brown Invitational on the 30th. 

Georgian Court: Georgian Court University's track & field teams had a solid showing Friday in the Ramapo College Season Opener, hosted at The Armory in New York City. On the track, Noah Roach (60m dash) and Chukwuebizie Anuamadi (800m Run) each posted fourth-place finishes with times of 7.066 seconds and 1:56.00, respectively. In field competition, Alejandro Valdez, a East Coast Conference Honor Roll selection a week ago, continues to succeed as the senior secured a second-place showing in the Shot Put (14.81m) while also taking third in the Weight Throw (14.60m). Shanae Rayside topped all-comers in the Triple Jump. Rayside, a senior, posted a first-place distance of 11.34 meters, holding off Colgate University's Rachel Schaaf by three-hundreths of a meter (11.31m) to secure the victory. Hannah Gravante soared to a third-place showing in the Pole Vault, clearing 2.89 meters. The Lions compete again next Friday with an appearance in the University at Albany Great Dane Invitational, which will take place at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.

Holy Family: The Holy Family men's & women's indoor track and field teams competed for the first time since Dec. 10 as the Tigers took part in the NYC Gotham Cup this past Friday at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island. Freshman Udoka Odoemene broke two of his own school records at the meet. Odoemene set new marks in the shot put and weight throw events. In the shot put, he recorded a distance of 46'11.75" (14.32m) to finish fourth overall. The distance broke his previous best of 46'10" (14.27m) set at the Fastrack Season Opener in December. Odoemene recorded a distance of 46'2.5" (14.08) in the weight throw to finish 13th overall. His previous record was 45'5.25" (13.85m) set at the Seahawk Shootout in the team's last meet before the Winter Break.

Queens: The Knights conclude January as they return to Ocean Breeze Complex as they get to compete in the Great Dane Classic hosted by the University of Albany.

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts indoor track and field team got back in action on Saturday following a couple of postponed meets. The team competed at the Houghton Highlander Invitational. Ryan Karker was a second place finisher in the mile (4:25.26) and Bailey Gostomski won the women's 3,000m (10:26.92).

Staten Island: The College of Staten Island Men's & Women's Indoor Track & Field teams participated in their fourth meet invite, all of which have been at the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Complex in Staten Island, N.Y. The Dolphins competed in nine total events (two field and seven-track) at the NYC Gotham Cup Invite. The events started at 1:00 PM and lasted into the late evening with well over 15 schools and hundreds of colligate and un-attached athletes competing. For CSI, the only team race was run by the men's team of Vincent Ohenhen, Christian Fernandez, Kyle Quesda, Jordan Thompson, and Samuel Pope who ran in the 4x400 Medley Relay. The team finished 15th out of the 17 schools competing with a time of 3:40.05.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Indoor Track & Field team competed at the Ramapo College Opener last week. STAC will return to action on January 28 (11:30 a.m.) at the SUNY Albany Great Dane Classic, which will be held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island.
