ECC Indoor Track & Field Report - Week One

Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Antonio Spencer, Post (Fr - Fort Lauderdale, Fla.)
Spencer finished in first in the 55m at the Art Kadish Elm City Challenge in a time of 6.36. That time equates to a 6.84 in the 60m, giving Spencer an NCAA provisional mark and 13th best time in Division II. He also helped the Post 4x400m relay squad to a second place finish in a time of 3:37.67. 

Men's Field Athlete of the Week
Jan Volkmar, Georgian Court (Fr - Eschwege, Germany)
Volkmar kicked off his collegiate career with a first-place height of 4.40 meters in the pole vault at the Fastrack Season Opener. 

Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Iyanna Jackson, District of Columbia (Fr - Kingston, Jamaica)
In her collegiate debut, Jackson placed second in the 60m dash (7.92), third in the 200m (26.40), and second in the 4x400m relay (14:19.57) at the KMS Opener.

Women's Field Athlete of the Week
Aniyah Russell, Georgian Court (Sr - Jackson, N.J.)
Russell opened her senior season with a first-place mark of 5.69 meters in the long jump at the Fastrack Season Opener. She hit an NCAA provisional mark with the leap, which currently ranks eighth in all of Division II this season.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Men
Daniel Agostinho-Vides, St. Thomas Aquinas (Sr - Westwood, N.J.)
Agostinho-Vides placed second in the Men's 5000 Meter Run at the TCNJ Winter Opener, coming in with a time of 15:48.69.

Henry Moffitt, Daemen (Sr - Sydney, Australia)
Moffitt now owns the Daemen indoor and outdoor record for both the high jump and triple jump. He equaled his own record in the high jump, as he tied for second place out of 11 athletes with a leap of 1.89 meters. He originally set the record at the RIT Invitational in 2020. He then placed fourth out of seven athletes in the triple jump with a leap of 12.61 meters breaking the previous school record of 12.54 meters set by Alex Reid at the 2014 Golden Eagle Invite. Moffitt also took part in the long jump and placed 10th out of 28 athletes with a leap of 6.30 meters.

Letlhogonolo Ramafuthula, Post (Jr - South Africa)
Ramafuthula finished in third place in the triple jump at the Art Kadish Elm City Challenge with a leap of 13.88m. 

DeAndre Smith, St. Thomas Aquinas (Sr - Brentwood, N.Y.)
Smith posted a third place finish in the High Jump, with a leap of 2.03m/6'8" and then took a fifth place finish in the Long Jump, jumping 6.75m/22'1.75" at the TCNJ Winter Opener.

Women
Marcy Colca, Daemen (Fr - Getzville, N.Y.)
Colca, who earned first-team All-East Coast Conference honors in cross country this fall, made the most of her collegiate indoor track debut as she placed first among 17 runners in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 18:01.40. She narrowly missed becoming just the second runner in program history to run the 5,000 meters in less than 18 minutes. Her time still ranks as the second fastest time in program history, behind school-record holder Mackenzie Donahue's 17:00.80.

Shaunajah Davis, Holy Family (Mays Landing, N.J.)
Davis won her first collegiate event as she finished first overall in the 60-meters at the Fastrack Season Opener. She recorded a time of 8.15 seconds.

Abagaile Kimbrell, St. Thomas Aquinas (Gr - Monroe, N.Y.)
Kimbrell placed first in the 5000 Meter Run at the TCNJ Winter Opener, coming in with a time of 18:41.38, which is also a new school record in the event.

Cecilia Spoldi, Post (Jr - Italy)
Spoldi won the 400m (58.59) and came in second in the 200m (26.51) at the Kadish Elm City Challenge.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: Daemen's track and field teams opened the 2021-22 indoor season by competing at the Houghton Indoor Meet on Dec. 3. Marcy Colca (5,000 meters) and Hannah Thomas (800 meters) earned first-place finishes, and Betty Jones set a new program record in the weight throw (13.15 meters) to pace the Daemen women. On the men's side, Dominic Clementi (600 meters), Erik Matthews (60 meter hurdles), and Henry Moffitt (triple jump, high jump) all set program records. The Wildcats will continue their season with the Highlander Invitational on Jan. 22.

District of Columbia: UDC opened the Indoor Track & Field Season at the KMS Opener. Ayesha Jarrett won the 600m, Kamille Dixon won the mile, and Iyanna Jackson took top-three finishes in the 60m and 200m. The Firebirds return to action on December 10 at the Seahawk Shootout at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island.

Georgian Court:  Robbie Babson and Jan Volkmar enjoyed stellar showings in their collegiate debuts as the freshmen each collected first-place finishes in their respective events Friday in the Fasttrack Season Opener (hosted by the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex). For the women, Shanae Rayside and Aniyah Russell also provided first-place performances, and newcomer Julia Kirschnick smashed the team record in the pole vault, in Friday's Fasttrack Season Opener (hosted by the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex). Babson carried the field in the shot put as the Toms River, N.J. native launched a meet-best heave of 14.99 meters in the shot put. Volkmar soared for a top mark of 4.40 meters in the pole vault. Rayside kicked off her final collegiate campaign with flair as the senior soared to a first-place distance of 11.22 meters in the triple jump. Not to be outdone, Russell joined her fellow senior teammate with a top distance of 5.69 meters in the long jump. Kirschnick, in her first-ever collegiate competition, immediately made her mark as the freshman established a new program-best of 3.30 meters in the pole vault (3rd-place overall), snapped the previous team-high of 3.20 (Hannah Gravante, 2/22/20, ECC Championships). Georgian Court now sits idle until Saturday, January 15 when the Lions compete in the TCNJ Indoor Invitational (hosted by the NYC Armory).

Holy Family: The Holy Family University track & field teams opened the 2021 indoor season at the Fastrack Season Opener on Friday held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island. The meet marked the team's first indoor competition since the 2020 East Coast Conference (ECC) Championship. Freshman Udoka Odoemene broke two school records in his collegiate debut in both the shot put and weight throw events. Odoemene finished fifth overall in the shot put with a distance of 46'10" (14.27m). Freshman Shaunajah Davis won her first collegiate event as she finished first overall in the 60-meters. She recorded a time of 8.15 seconds.  Davis edged out Stockton University's Ashanae Morrison who finished in 8.27 seconds. Holy Family returns to action on Friday, Dec. 10 as the Tigers take part in the Seahawk Shootout hosted by Wagner College at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.

Molloy: The Lions opened the 2021-2022 season at the Bill Ward Invitational in Staten Island, N.Y. The maroon and white had two student-athletes set program records. Sophomore Kaitlyn Mohr set the school record in the 3000-meter finishing with a time of 10:58.28 and senior Christi Weber set the 500-meter record running a time of 1:20.40. Freshman Eric Anderson finished sixth in the 60-meter hurdle with a time of 10.36.

Post: Freshman Antonio Spencer set a school record and qualified nationally for the 60m dash at the Art Kadish Elm City Challenge hosted by Southern Connecticut State University on Sunday. Spencer, racing in the 55m, posted a time of 6.36, which would convert to a 6.84 in the 60m. The time ranks him 13th in the country. He is the first athlete in Post University history to hit a qualifying mark for Track and Field nationals. Spencer also was a part of the 4x400m team that finished in second place with a time of 3:37.67. He was part of a team with Zenron Chance, Kailon Kirby and Godwyn Roban. In the men's triple jump, Letlhogonolo Ramafuthula finished third with a jump of 13.88 meters. On the women's side, Cecilia Spolid won the 400m dash with a time of 58.59 (converted to 57.83), which ranks her 15th nationally. She also finished second in the 200m dash with a time of 26.51. Martina Stanchi also had an impressive performance on the day, finishing with a time of 7.31 and placing third in the 55m dash and fourth in the 200m with a time of 26.93. Anna Bonato shattered the school record in the 20lb weight throw, with a toss of 13.63, which was three feet farther than the previous school record, finishing in second place.

Queens: Queens returned to competition after 652 days as they took part in their first meet of the year hosted by Army West Point. The Knights will return to action in the new year as they travel back to West Point, N.Y. to take part in the West Point Open.

Roberts Wesleyan: No team notes submitted.

Staten Island: In what was a late Friday night on December 3rd, the College of Staten Island Men's & Women's Indoor Track & Field teams had an impressive run in the Fastrack Season Opener at the Ocean Breeze Track Complex. Overall, the Dolphins competed in ten events among the ten plus schools in attendance. Three Dolphins broke previous school records in the 60-meter dash, shot-put, and 200-meter run events. Along with breaking the record, senior Idrissa Sam Kabba took first place overall in the 60-meter dash with an impressive time of 7.11 seconds. Up next they will run in the SEAHAWK SHOOTOUT on Friday.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Indoor Track & Field team opened its 2021-22 season at the TCNJ Winter Opener inside of the 168th St. Armory in New York City. STAC will return to action on Dec. 10 at the Wagner College Seahawk Shootout, which will be held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island. Events get underway at 12 p.m.
