ECC Indoor Track & Field Report - Week Six

Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Ryan Karker, Roberts Wesleyan (Jr - Greece, N.Y.)
Karker won the 800m (1:55.29) and came in second in the 200m (23.67) at the RIT January Friday Meet. His time in the 800m was the fastest in the ECC so far this season.

Co-Men's Field Athlete of the Week
Robbie Babson, Georgian Court (Fr - Toms River, N.J.)
Babson topped all-comers in Friday's University at Albany Great Dane Invitational as the freshman secured a first-place heave of 15.47 meters in the Shot Put amongst a field loaded with NCAA Division I competition. His toss was the best in the ECC this season by over 0.5m.

Co-Men's Field Athlete of the Week
Emmanuel Mena Jimenez, St. Thomas Aquinas (Fr - West Haverstraw, N.Y.)
Mena Jimenez placed second in the Weight Throw at the SUNY Albany Great Dane Classic. His toss of 17.77m/58'3.75" sets a new school record and was the top finisher among ECC competitors. It was also the ECC's best mark in the event this season by nearly 3.0m. 

Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Bailey Gostomski, Roberts Wesleyan (Sr - Cattaraugus, N.Y.)
Gostosmki finished in first place in three different events at the RIT January Friday Meet. Individually, she paced the mile (5:12.50) and the 3000m (11:25.17). She also helped the 4x400m relay squad to a first place time of 4:23.24. Her time in the mile was the fastest in the ECC this season.

Women's Field Athlete of the Week
Aniyah Russell, Georgian Court (Sr - Jackson, N.J.)
Russell provided the Lions' lone Top-10 performance in Friday's University at Albany Great Dane Invitational as the senior secured a second-place leap of 5.66 meters in the Long Jump amongst a field loaded with NCAA Division I competition.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Men
Thomas Bovenberg, St. Thomas Aquinas (Gr - Oegstgeest, Netherlands)
Bovenberg finished tenth in the 1000 Meter Run at the SUNY Albany Great Dane Classic. Bovenberg crossed the finish line in a time of 2:35.73 and was the top finisher among DII and ECC competitors.

Micah Cooper, Holy Family (Fr - Ronkonkoma, N.Y.)
Cooper broke his own school record in the pole vault event at the Great Dane Classic. Cooper finished third overall with a height of 14'9" (4.50m). His previous record was 13' 11.25" (4.25m) set at the Seahawk Shootout back in December.

Reymond Reyes, Holy Family (So - Jersey City, N.J.)
After nearly breaking the 60-meter hurdles record last week, Reyes finally got the mark this time around. Reyes recorded a time of 8.90 seconds in the preliminaries and then finished in 8.85 seconds in the finals to break the school record. The previous mark of 8.88 seconds was held by Travis Perinhoe since the 2012-13 indoor season. Reyes' time of 8.85 seconds was good enough to finish first overall in the 60-meter hurdle 'Finals Section 1' race.

Women
Marcy Colca, Daemen (Fr - Getzville, N.Y.)
Colca returned to the track after sitting out the Highlander Invitational last weekend. Running the 3,000 meters for the first time in her career, the rookie placed third out of 15 runners with a time of 10:32.88. She was just nine seconds off the pace of race winner Lily Meek (10:23.65) of the University at Buffalo.

Kamille Dixon, District of Columbia (Fr - Houston, Texas)
Dixon had a meet of personal bests at the Vince Brown Invitational, placing first in the 800m with a time of 2:28.29 and second in the mile with a time of 5:31.89.

Abagaile Kimbrell, St. Thomas Aquinas (Gr - Monroe, N.Y.)
Kimbrell finished eighth in the 3000 Meter Run at the SUNY Albany Great Dane Classic. Kimbrell crossed the finish line in a time of 10:21.26 and was the top finisher among DII and ECC competitors.

Hailee Lowe, Roberts Wesleyan (So - Alexander, N.Y.)
Lowe finished in first place in the long jump at the RIT January Friday Meet with a leap of 4.96m.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: Daemen's distance runners led the way as the Wildcats competed at the Robert J. Kane Invitational hosted by Cornell this past weekend. Sophomore Jon Moote set a new program record for the men's 3,000 meters while placing third. Freshman Marcy Colca and redshirt senior Kassandra Nolet each earned top-five finishes in the women's 3,000 meters. Daemen's women were ranked seventh in last week's regional rating index published by the USTFCCCA. The Wildcats return to action this Saturday, Feb. 5 at the Brockport Multi.

District of Columbia: The University of the District of Columbia's women's indoor track and field team competed at the Vince Brown Invitational hosted by Christopher Newport University on Sunday. Kamille Dixon and a host of other Firebirds had strong showings and season bests. Dixon placed first in the 800m with a season-best time of 2:28.29 and also placed second in the Mile with a season and personal best time of 5:31.89. Shanise Rose ran a season-best time of 7.98s to match her personal best in the 60m and place fourth in the finals. Teammate Ayesha Jarrett ran a personal best time of 8.03s in the semis and placed sixth in the finals with a time of 8.11s. Iyanna Jackson ran a season-best time of 26.35s in the 200m to place fifth out of a field of 40 and Fanta Sanogo ran a season-best of 1:02.71 to place fifth in the 400m. UDC capped out the day by winning the 4x400m with a team of Jarrett, Sanogo, Jackson, and Christine Taylor. Next up UDC is headed to Virginia on February 4th to compete in the two day East Coast Invitational meet.

Georgian Court: Georgian Court University's  Robbie Babson topped all-comers in Friday's University at Albany Great Dane Invitational as the freshman secured a first-place heave of 15.47 meters in the Shot Put amongst a field loaded with NCAA Division I competition. Aniyah Russell provided the Lions women's team its lone Top-10 performance as the senior secured a second-place leap of 5.66 meters in the Long Jump. The Lions return to action next Saturday as the squad splits between the Boston University Bruce Lehane Scarlett and White Invite and the Ursinus College Frank Colden Invitational in Collegeville, Pa. 

Holy Family: The Holy Family University men's and women's Indoor Track & Field teams competed at the Great Dane Classic hosted by the University at Albany on Friday at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island. Four new school records were established. On the women's side, junior Korryn Braxton-Young broke her own school record in the weight throw as she recorded a new standard of 40' 3.5" (12.28m). On the men's side, sophomore Reymond Reyes broke the record in the 60-meter hurdles of 8.88 seconds which has been in place since the 2012-13 indoor season. Reyes recorded a time of 8.90 seconds in the preliminaries and then in the finals finished in a new school record time of 8.85 seconds. In the high jump, freshman Skyler Salay broke the school record with a height of 6'6.75" (2.00m) while finishing fourth in the event. Fellow freshman Micah Cooper broke his own school record in the pole vault event. He finished third overall with a new school record height of 14'9" (4.50m). Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 5 as the Tigers take part in the annual Frank Colden Invitational hosted by Ursinus College.

Molloy: No team notes submitted.

Queens: The Knights will be off until Feb 19. as they compete in the West Point Tune-Up.

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts track and field team competed at the RIT January Friday Meet. The men's team took second place and the women's team tied for second place. The team will be back on the track again on Friday and Saturday at Brockport.

Staten Island: No team notes submitted.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Indoor Track & Field team competed at the SUNY Albany Great Dane Classic last week. STAC will return to action on February 11 & 12 at the Monmouth University Winter Collegiate Invitational, which will be held at the Oceanfirst Bank Center in West Long Branch, N.J.
