ECC Women's Tennis Report - Week Seven

Ebba Rosberg, St. Thomas Aquinas (Sr - Stockholm, Sweden)
Rosberg went 4-0 on the week, defeating her opponents from Dominican and UDC in both singles and doubles play to help STAC remain perfect on the season and secure the program's second ECC Regular Season title.

Rookie of the Week
Célia Bastin, Dist. Columbia (Fr - Dinant, Belgium)
Bastin went 4-0 on the week to help lead the Firebirds to a second place regular season finish. Bastin teamed up with Marie give the Firebirds their only doubles win in both games against STAC and QC. She defeated STAC's Amaia Balaguer 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 at No.5 and then went on to defeat QC's Gabriella Sciarrotta 6-4, 6-3 at No.4 to remain undefeated in ECC play on the season.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Apolline Lamy, Queens (Fr - Toulouse, France)
Lamy earned a thrilling two-set 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 victory over Mariona Franco at #2 singles Saturday afternoon. She would end the regular season undefeated in conference play with a 4-0 record.

Laura Marie, Dist. Columbia (So - Saint-Valery-sur-Somme, France)
Marie went undefeated on the weekend to help the Firebirds to a second place regular season finish. She went undefeated at No.2 doubles and No.3 singles.

Hannah Niggemeier, Molloy (Jr - Sayville, N.Y.)
Niggemeier won all of her four matches this weekend going 4-0 to close out the season.

Kitsa Scime, Daemen (So - Williamsville, N.Y.)
Scime helped the Wildcats post a 5-2 win over Molloy that earned Daemen the fourth an final bid to the upcoming ECC Tournament. Posted a win at No. 2 singles against Molloy and teamed up with Frida Rubio to post a win at No. 1 doubles against Division I Niagara.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: Daemen earned a bid to the four-team ECC Championship tournament following a 5-2 win over Molloy this past Friday night. The Wildcats closed out the fall regular-season with a 7-0 loss at Division I Niagara Sunday. Daemen is seeded fourth in the ECC Tournament and will face top-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas in the semifinals Friday (Oct. 28) on the campus of Queens College in Flushing, N.Y. The winner advances to Saturday's conference championship match. Sophomore Kitsa Scime (Williamsville, N.Y.) is a team-best 9-4 in singles play this year, while junior Frida Rubio (San Diego, Calif.) has become just the seventh player in program history to post 20 career singles wins.

District of Columbia: UDC split a pair of conference games falling 3-4 to STAC and then defeating Queens College 4-3 to secure the No.2 spot in the ECC Tournament. They will head to N.Y. next week to face off against Queens on the semifinals of the ECC Tournament.

D'Youville: No team notes submitted. 

Molloy: No team notes submitted.

Queens: The Knights fell 4-3 to UDC to conclude the regular season. Queens will use the week to prepare for the ECC Women's Tennis Tournament beginning on Friday.

St. Thomas Aquinas: TThe St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Tennis team (8-0, 5-0 ECC) picked up victories against Dominican (7-0) and UDC (4-3) to remain perfect on the season and capture the program's second ECC Regular Season title. STAC closes out the 2022 Fall regular season hosting Chestnut Hill on October 25 (2:30 p.m.), before competing in the ECC Women's Tennis Championship Tournament on October 28-29 at host Queens College.
