ECC Women's Tennis Report - Week One

Player of the Week
Kitsa Scime, Daemen (So - Williamsville, N.Y.)
Scime remained unbeaten on the year after posting two wins at No. 2 singles during losses to Le Moyne and William Smith. Picked up Daemen's lone point in the loss to Le Moyne following a 3-6, 6-4, 10-6 win over Alicia Alvarez. She capped the week with a straight set (6-1, 6-1) win over Audrey Camacho of William Smith.

Rookie of the Week
Celia Bastin, District of Columbia (Fr - Dinant, Belgium)
Bastin won in both singles and doubles in the Firebirds' season-opening 7-0 sweep of Frostburg St. She won 6-0, 6-0 over Rabiatu Ladan in singles after a 6-4 win in her doubles match at the No. 2 position. 


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Simoné Pärn, District of Columbia (Gr - Pärnu, Estonia)
Pärn won at both No. 1 singles and doubles in the Firebirds' season-opening 7-0 sweep of Frostburg St. She won 6-1, 6-1 over Lorena Pintar in singles after a 6-0 win in her doubles match.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: Daemen opened the 2022-23 season with losses at Le Moyne (1-6) and William Smith (4-5) this past weekend. Sophomore Kitsa Scime (Williamsville, N.Y.) has won all four of her singles matches so far this season. She posted two singles wins during the rain-shortened Allegheny Invitational and won both of her singles matches during the losses to Le Moyne and William Smith last week. Freshman Carly Armitage (Rochester, N.Y.) picked up her first career singles victory at No. 4 singles against William Smith, while junior Frida Rubio (San Diego, Calif.) picked up her 18th career singles win during the loss to William Smith. The Wildcats hit the road again this weekend when they open ECC play at Queens (Sept. 16) and St. Thomas Aquinas (Sept. 17).

District of Columbia: The Firebirds started their season off with a decisive 7-0 victory over Frostburg State. They will be idle in the upcoming week but will head to N.Y. the following week to compete in the ITA's.

D'Youville: No team notes submitted. 

Molloy: The Lions fell to Adelphi and Jefferson in its opening weekend of the 2022 season. Molloy returns to action on Friday (Sept. 16) at the University of New Haven

Queens: The Knights open the season on Friday as they host Daemen and conclude the weekend against D'Youville on Saturday.

St. Thomas Aquinas: St. Thomas Aquinas' scheduled match with The College of New Jersey on September 11 was postponed due to inclement weather. STAC will attempt to get the new season underway on September 14, when they host the University of New Haven (3:00 p.m.)
