Flushing, N.Y. – The Queens College women's tennis team is heading back to the East Coast Conference final as the Knights shutout the University of the District of Colombia Firebirds Friday morning to the final score of 4-0 inside the QC Tennis Bubble.

The Knights rebounded off last weekend's regular-season loss to the Firebirds with a victory in the semi-final match. Queens clinched the doubles points before three singles victories ensured there would be a new East Coast Conference Champions this fall.

Doubles Play

Queens took an early lead of 1-0 as the Knights No. 1 senior doubles pair of Maja Makal (Bialystok, Poland), Gabriela Sciarrotta (Woodmere, N.Y.) defeated Simone Parn/Sofia Bellucco to the score of 6-2.

The Knights would clinch the doubles point as junior Ana Tarbujaru (Valcea, Romania) / freshman Apolline Lamy (Toulouse, France) dispatched Laura Marie/Celia Bastin at No. 2 doubles to the score of 6-2 giving Queens a 1-0 lead heading into Singles play.

Singles Play

Tarbujaro wasted no time in extending the Knights' lead as she defeated Bastin at No. 5 singles to the score of 6-1, 6-3 putting the Knights ahead 2-0.

Queens took a commanding lead of 3-0 as senior Chloe Certain (Obernai, France) quickly dispatched Valentina Brienza to the score of 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.

The Knights held the advantage at Court No. 1 and No. 4 with Makal and Sciarrotta up a set against their opponents.

At No. 1 singles, Makal and Parn traded points in the first set as Makal forced a tiebreaker to determine the first-set victor. Trailing 4-3 in the tiebreaker, the Poland native rallied back to win the first set with an 8-6 victory before she cruised in the second set with a 6-3 victory to send the Knights to the ECC Final.
