ECC Women's Tennis Report - Week Two

Player of the Week
Ebba Rosberg, St. Thomas Aquinas (Sr - Stockholm, Sweden)
Rosberg went a perfect 6-0 last week for STAC, winning all of her singles and doubles matches at the No. 1 positions against New Haven, D'Youville, and Daemen.

Rookie of the Week
Apolline Lamy, Queens (Fr - Toulouse, France)
The rookie opened her Knights career on a high note going undefeated with a 4-0 record in singles and doubles play. She began the week against Daemen in No. 2 singles and doubles. Playing at No. 2 singles against Daemen Kista Scime, the French native picked up a 6-0, 7-5 victory. To conclude the week, the rookie was promoted to No. 1 singles against D'Youville and picked up her second straight singles victory with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Yuliia Kashtelian.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Amaia Balaguer Brau, St. Thomas Aquinas (Fr - Benicarlo, Spain)
Amaia Balaguer Brau went 2-0 in her first two singles matches for STAC, beating her opponents from New Haven and Daemen in the No. 5 and No. 4 positions, respectively.

Maja Makal, Queens (Sr - Bialystok, Poland)
Makal picked off where she left last season as Poland native went 3-0 on the week. She started the fall season with a 2-0 record winning both matches on Friday against Daemen. At No. 1 doubles with teammate Gabriela Sciarrotta, the duo picked up a 6-1 victory before Makal closed out the day with a 6-4, 6-0 victory at No. 1 single over Rubio. On Saturday, the Poland native went 1-0 with a 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles and was given the day off in singles play.

Maja Makal, Queens (Sr - Bialystok, Poland)
Niggemeier won both her singles and doubles matches against New Haven. The junior came from behind in singles, dropping the first set 7-5 before taking the next two, 6-3 and 10-7.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: Daemen (0-4, 0-2) opened conference play with road losses to Queens (7-0) and St. Thomas Aquinas (7-0) last week. Sophomore Kitsa Scime suffered her first two singles losses of the year last week and now stands at 4-2 in singles play on the year. The Wildcats head back to Flushing, N.Y. this week to take part in the ITA East Region Championships.

District of Columbia: UDC women's tennis was idle last week but will head to N.Y. on the 23rd to compete in the ITA East Regional championships.

D'Youville: No team notes submitted. 

Molloy: Molloy fell 5-2 to the University of New Haven. Junior Hannah Niggemeier won both her singles and doubles match, including forcing a deciding set in singles. The Lions will face Post University on Tuesday (Sept. 20) before competing in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association East Region Tournament to end the week.

Queens: The Knights went 2-0 on the week shutting down Daemen and D'Youville to open ECC Play. Queens will now enter the ITA East Regional Tournament beginning on Thursday (9/22) morning at the USTA National Tennis Center.

St. Thomas Aquinas: St. Thomas Aquinas (3-0) opened its 2022-23 campaign with three straight 7-0 victories last week against New Haven, D'Youville and Daemen. STAC next heads to the ITA Division II East Regional Tournament, which begins on September 22.
