ECC Outdoor Track & Field Report - Week Six

Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Ryan Karker, Roberts Wesleyan (Sr - Greece, N.Y.)
Karker posted the fastest time in the ECC this season in the 800m with a sixth place finish at the Grand Valley State Extra Weekend Meet. He crossed the line in a time of 1:51.79. 

Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Kathleen Healy, Molloy (Fr - Malverne, N.Y.)
Healy won the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 12:18.98 at the Lions Invitational. Her time is the best in the ECC so far this season.

Erik Matthews, Daemen (Gr - Galway, N.Y.)
Matthews took part in the 110-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles at the St. John Fisher Cardinal Classic and broke his own school record in the 110-meter hurdles. He finished sixth out of 26 entrants during the qualifying rounds of the 110-meter hurdles with a program-record time of 16.04 seconds, narrowly eclipsing the previous best time of 16.08 he set at the Brockport Outdoor Multi two weeks ago. He would place seventh in the finals with a time of 17.09 seconds. Matthews would also post a top-10 effort in the 400-meter hurdles, as he placed 10th out of 31 entrants with a time of 57.52 seconds, which ranks as the seventh fastest time in program history.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: Daemen sent a limited roster to the St. John Fisher Cardinal Classic this past Saturday. Graduate student Erik Matthews (Galway, N.Y.) took part in the 110-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles and broke his own school record in the 110-meter hurdles. He finished sixth out of 26 entrants during the qualifying rounds of the 110-meter hurdles with a program-record time of 16.04 seconds?narrowly eclipsing the previous best time of 16.08 he set at the Brockport Outdoor Multi two weeks ago. He would place seventh in the finals with a time of 17.09 seconds. Matthews would also post a top-10 effort in the 400-meter hurdles, as he placed 10th out of 31 entrants with a time of 57.52 seconds, which ranks as the seventh fastest time in program history. Freshman Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) took part in the 100-meter dash, the 100-meter hurdles and the long jump. She qualified for the finals in the 100-meter dash after placing ninth out of 34 runners in the qualifying rounds with a time of 12.97 seconds. She would place sixth in the finals with a time of 12.99 seconds. She placed 13th in the qualifying rounds of the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.01 seconds. That time did not qualify for the finals, but it does rank as the fifth fastest time in program history. She capped her day by placing 25th out of 44 in the long jump with a personal best leap of 4.82 meters.

Queens: The men's and women's outdoor track and field teams will use the week to prepare for the ECC Outdoor championship to be held in Rochester on Thursday to be hosted by Roberts Wesleyan University

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts track and field team competed at the Grand Valley State University Extra Weekend Meet. Roberts will be hosting the ECC Championships on Thursday.

Staten Island: Outdoor Track & Field competed in the TCNJ Lions Invitational this past weekend in their final meet before the conference championship. The meet was highlighted by six Dolphins achieving personal-bests including five on the track.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Outdoor Track and Field team competed at the prestigious Penn Relays last week. STAC returns to action on May 4 at the East Coast Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Rochester, N.Y.
