ECC Outdoor Track & Field Report - Week Four

Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Ryan Karker, Roberts Wesleyan (Sr - Greece, N.Y.)
Karker ran to ECC season-best times in the 800m (1:52.18) and the 1500m (3:51.13) at the Bison Outdoor Classic. 

Men's Field Athlete of the Week
Corden Zimmerman, Roberts Wesleyan (Fr - Bergen, N.Y.)
At the Brockport Multi & Invitational, Zimmerman leaped to an ECC season-best mark of 1.85m in the long jump.

Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Kayla Cooper, Dist. Columbia (Fr - Brooklyn, N.Y.)
Cooper had a stellar performance at the Norfolk State Invitational running two ECC season bests. Her 200m time of 25.05 was good for fifth place and was an ECC season best. She was a part of the quartet that ran 47.37 in the 4x100m which is also the top mark in the ECC this season. She also ran 12.07 in the 100m which is the second-fastest time in the ECC so far.

Women's Field Athlete of the Week
Emmanuela Kouami Katou, Dist. Columbia (Fr - Bronx, N.Y.)
Emmanuela had a fifth place performance in the hammer at the Noroflk State Invitational, throw hitting a new UDC record and ECC Season best throw of 44.57m.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Men
Connor O'Brien, Daemen (Jr - Hamburg, N.Y.)
O'Brien took part in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the fourth time in his career and placed first out of eight entrants with a school-record time of 10:07.00. He chopped 12 seconds off his previous personal-best time of 10:19.73 and broke the previous program record of 10:11.34 set by Kevin Roginson at the 2016 University at Buffalo Invitational. O'Brien would also take part in the 800-meter run. He placed first out of three Daemen runners and 17th out of 44 overall with a time of 2:04.61, just three seconds shy of his personal-best time (2:01.49) he set last weekend at the UB Spring Opener.

Women
Alyssa Amirato, Daemen (So - Depew, N.Y.)
Amirato broke her own school record in the long jump and also established a new school standard in the triple jump during the Brockport Outdoor Multi. She placed sixth out of 37 entrants in the long jump with a leap of 5.23 meters, breaking the previous record of 5.15 meters she set just two weeks ago at the season-opening Dave Labor Invitational. Amirato would go on to finish sixth out of 18 entrants in the triple jump with a leap of 10.98 meters, which broke the previous school record of 10.78 meters set by Katja Meyer at the 2019 Dave Labor Invitational.

Ayesha Jarrett, Dist. Columbia (So - St. Ann, Jamaica)
Jarrett ran an ECC season-best time of 57.46 in the 400m and was on the 4x100m relay that ran an ECC season-best time of 47.37.

Zoe Shaw, Dist. Columbia (Fr - Kingston, Jamaica)
Shaw leaped to an ECC season-best jump of 11.16m in the triple jump. Her mark placed her eighth at the Norfolk State Invitational. 

Dayna Thompson, Dist. Columbia (Fr - St. Mary, Jamaica)
Thompson ran two ECC season best times this weekend. She ran 12.05 in the 100m and 47.37 in the 4x100m She also ran the second fastest 200m in the ECC so far with a time of 25.20.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: Daemen took part in the Brockport Outdoor Multi this past Saturday on the campus SUNY Brockport. Record-breaking efforts by sophomore Alyssa Amirato (Depew, N.Y.) in the long jump and triple jump, sophomore Sydney Taylor (Brockport, N.Y.) in the high jump and freshman Rebecca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) in the 100 meter hurdles, as well as first-place finishes by graduate student Kassandra Nolet (Fort Erie, Ont.) in the 1,500 meters and freshman Patsy Oberholzer (Greece, N.Y.) in the 5.000 meters highlighted the day for the Daemen women. Record-breaking efforts by junior Connor O'Brien (Hamburg, N.Y.) in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and graduate student Erik Matthews (Galway, N.Y.) in the 110 meter hurdles highlighted the day for the Daemen men. Daemen is in action Saturday (4/22) at the University at Buffalo Alumni Invitational.

District of Columbia: UDC had stellar performances at the NSU Invite running/throwinf/jumping multiple ECC season bests. Next up they will compete at the Morgan State Legacy meet next Saturday.

D'Youville: No team notes submitted.

Molloy: No team notes submitted.

Queens: The Knights were off this week and return to action on Saturday (Apr. 22) morning competing in a Tri-Meet in Flushing.

Roberts Wesleyan: Roberts competed in two locations over the weekend. The Redhawks ran at the Brockport Multi meet and the Bison Outdoor Classic at Bucknell University.

Staten Island: Outdoor Track & Field competed in the Bill Butler Invitational where Jazmine Severo once again took first place in the High Jump. A pair of Dolphins also set new collegiate-bests on the track in the team's fourth meet of the Outdoor season.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Outdoor Track and Field team had last week off. STAC returns to action on April 21 at the East Stroudsburg University All-American Meet in Pennsylvania.
