ECC Outdoor Track & Field Report - Week Two

Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Doris Desir, Queens (Sr - Port-au-Prince, Haiti)
On Saturday at the Coach O Invitational, Desir placed first in the 100m with a career-best time of 11.25 overtaking his previous best time of 11.72 set last season. He would finish the weekend on Sunday, placing third in the 100m dash at The Big Hurt with a time of 11.53.

Men's Field Athlete of the Week
Emmanuel Mena Jimenez, St. Thomas Aquinas (So - West Haverstraw, N.Y.)
Mena Jimenez took a pair of victories in the discus and hammer throw events at the Ramapo College T&F Invitational. His discus throw of 51.69m and hammer toss of 57.86m were both NCAA Division II Championship Provisional Qualifying marks. The hammer throw also set a new school record. Emmanuel finished fourth in the shot put (13.95m), as well.

 

Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Dayna Thompson, Dist. Columbia (Fr - St. Mary, Jamaica)
Thompson placed fifth out of a field of 30 with a time of 58.12 in the 400m at the Towson Invitational, which was also the fastest DII time of the meet. She then went on to run on the 4x400m relay that placed third with a time of 4:01.15. Both times now rank first in the ECC this season. 

Women's Field Athlete of the Week
Emmanuela Katou Kouami, Dist. Columbia (Fr - Bronx, N.Y.)
Kouami had a strong showing in all three field events she competed in at the Towson Invitational. Her mark of 44.00m in the hammer throw was good for eighth out of a field of 27 and was the best DII mark off the meet. She also threw the farthest DII mark in the discus with 37.44m. She placed 13th in the shot put with a mark of 10.82m. Her marks in all three events are also ECC season-bests.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Men
Hakeem Griffiths, Queens (So - Portmore, Jamaica)
Griffiths earned a third-place finish in the long jump event with a season-high jump of 5.84m to begin the week in The Big Hurt meet Saturday afternoon. While in the 4x100 meter race, Griffiths and his team placed first with a season-best time of 43.97. He would conclude the weekend with a third-place finish in the triple jump with a career-high mark of 12.10m. While In the 200m dash, Griffiths recorded a new-high time of 23.89.

Gianni Macchio, Molloy (Jr - North Bellmore, N.Y.) 
Macchio set two program records for the Lions at the Ramapo Invite. In the field, he finished fourth in the long jump with a height of 6.52 meters. He was also a member of the program-record 4x100 meter relay team that ran the race in 43.32 seconds.

Erik Matthews, Daemen (Gr - Galway, N.Y.)
Posted a top-five finish in both the 110 meter and 400 meter hurdles at the Slippery Rock Dave Labor Invitational. Placed fifth out of 17 in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.32 seconds. Finished fourth out of 18 in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 58.86 seconds.

Women
Bianca Hiltz, Queens (Sr - Southwick, Mass.)
Hiltz had a successful Coach Omeltchenko invitational Sunday afternoon earning three first-place finishes beginning with a time of 1:11.13 in the 400m Hurdles. The Southwick native would place first in the long jump with a mark of 5.20m and a 10.65m in the triple jump. The 5.20m in the long jump would set a new career high for the senior.

Kassandra Nolet, Daemen (Gr - Fort Erie, Ontario)
Placed first among Daemen runners and seventh out of 79 overall with a time of 4:58.49 in the 1,500 meters at the Slippery Rock Dave Labor Invitational.

Faith Rousseau, Molloy (So - Seymour, Conn.)
Rousseau set a new record for Molloy in her second-place finish in the javelin, reaching a distance of 34.22 meters.

Jazmine Severo, Staten Island (Fr - Merced, Calif.)
Severo leapt to a first place finish in the high jump at the Muhlenberg Invitational with a mark of 1.62m. That height is tops in the ECC so far this season.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: Daemen opened its outdoor season at the Dave Labor Invitational on campus of Slippery Rock University this past Saturday. Sophomore Alyssa Amirato (Depew, N.Y.) broke the school-record in the long jump and also posted a top-five effort in the triple jump. Graduate student Kassandra Nolet (Fort Erie, Ontario) and junior Camryn Bailey (Geneva, N.Y.) both posted a top-10 finish in the 1,500 meters, while junior Emma Grzebinski (West Seneca, N.Y.) and freshman Patsy Oberholzer (Greece, N.Y.) registered top-10 efforts in the 400-meter hurdles and the 5,000 meters respectively. Two top-five efforts by graduate student Erik Matthews (Galway, N.Y.) and two top-20 performances by junior Jon Moote (Wilson, N.Y.) in the 800 and 1,500 meters highlighted the day for the Wildcat men. Daemen returns to action Saturday (April 8) at the University at Buffalo Spring Opener.

District of Columbia: UDC had a strong showing in their season opener. They will be back in action next Saturday at the Gallaudet Bison Classic.

D'Youville: No team notes submitted.

Molloy: No team notes submitted.

Queens: The Knights had two successful meets which included 10 top-three finishes on Sunday. Queens returns to action on Saturday in Mahwah, N.J. as the Knights compete in the TNCJ Invite.

Roberts Wesleyan: No team notes submitted.

Staten Island: The Dolphins competed in the Muhlenberg Invitational on Saturday in their second meet of the Outdoor season. The meet was highlighted by a first-place finish for Jazmine Severo in the High Jump with a height of 1.62m.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Outdoor Track and Field team competed at the 2-day Ramapo College T&F Invitational last weekend, where the Men's team finished fourth and the women's squad ninth. STAC returns to action on April 8 at the TCNJ Invitational in Ewing, N.J.
