ECC Outdoor Track & Field Report - Week One

Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Andrew Drescher, St. Thomas Aquinas (So - Duanesberg, N.Y.)
Drescher picked up a pair of second place finishes in the 800 Meter Run at the Ansin Invitational (1:59.97) and St. Thomas University Bobcat 8-Way (1:58.83). He also recorded a first place finish in the 4x400 Meter Relay in a time of 3:35.83 with teammates Pat Moran, Alex Quillan & Christan Watson at the STU Bobcat 8-Way.

Men's Field Athlete of the Week
Emmanuel Mena-Jimenez, St. Thomas Aquinas (Fr - West Haverstraw, N.Y.)
Mena-Jimenez helped the Spartans pick up first place team finishes with his outstanding performances in several field events at both the Ansin Invitational and St. Thomas University Bobcat 8-Way. At the Ansin Invitational, he finished first in the hammer throw (45.07m), second in the shot put (13.93m), fourth in the discus (41.02m), and eighth in the javelin (26.65m). In the STU Bobcat 8-Way, he finished first in both the shot put (13.45m) and discus (46.54m).

Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Ayesha Jarrett, District of Columbia (Fr - Kingston, Jamaica)
Jarrett placed first in the 400m dash (58.92), second in the 4x100m (49.21), and second in the 4x400m (4:09.70) in the University of Mary Washington Opener.

Women's Field Athlete of the Week
Guerlourde Estabine, St. Thomas Aquinas (Fr - West Haverstraw, N.Y.)
Estabine helped the Spartans pick up a first place team finish at the Ansin Invitational and a second place result at the St. Thomas University Bobcat 8-Way by way of her outstanding performances in several field events. At the Ansin Invitational she finished third in both the hammer (17.07m) and javelin (24.02m) and fourth in the shot put (10.10m). In the STU Bobcat 8-Way, she finished third in the shot put (9.80m).


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Men
James Betts, Roberts Wesleyan (Gr - Congers, N.Y.)
Betts won both the 800m (2:00.06) and the 1500m (3:59.46) at the Redhawk Invitational.

Women
Bailey Gostomski, Roberts Wesleyan (Sr - Cattaraugus, N.Y.)
Gostomski won both the 800m (2:17.71) and the 1500m (4:49.20) at the Redhawk Invitational.

Linise Greene, St. Thomas Aquinas (So - New Rochelle, N.Y.)
Greene was a triple winner at the St. Thomas University Bobcat 8-Way, finishing first in the 100m (13.30), the 200m (26.24), and the 4x400 Meter Relay (4:19.67), along with teammates Skylar Moreno, Christina Maretzo, and Ruby Pekin-Schlicht. She also posted a pair of second place finishes in the 4x100 Meter Relay and a third place finish in the 400m dash.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: Daemen's track and field teams open their outdoor season on April 2 at the Geneseo Early Season Invitational.

District of Columbia: The University of the District of Columbia's women's Outdoor track and field team opened their season at the UMW Opener at Mary Washington University. Ayesha Jarrett won the 400m with a time of 58.92s and teammate Fanta Sanogo was second with a time of 1:01.20. Kamille Dixon placed second in the 1500 meter run with a time of 5:05.97. All three ladies went on to place second in the 4x400m along with teammate Iyanna Jackson. Shanise Rose placed third in the 200m with a season-best time of 25.70s and was on the 4x100m relay along with Christine Taylor, Jackson, and Jarrett that placed second with a time of 49.21s. Kendra Williams placed fourth in the Discus with a throw of  32.12m and Chacoia Wilkes placed fourth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 17.41s. Next up the Firebirds will head to Maryland on April 1st for a two-day meet at the Towson Invitational. 

Molloy: The Lions kick off the spring season on March 26 at the Stockton Invitational. 

Queens: Queens did not compete last week. The Knights begin their spring season on March 26 at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, N.Y.

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts track and field program hosted its first meet of the early outdoor season on Thursday with the Redhawks Invitational. The meet brought in three other schools, including RIT, Houghton and Alfred. Abigail and Bailey Gostomski found success in the mid-distance events with the twins taking first and second in the 800m and 1500m races and then teaming up to take first in the 4x400m relay. Bailey finished first in the 800m with a time of 2:17.71 and first in the 1500m in 4:49.20. Abigail was second in those same events posting time of 2:23.82 and 4:50.13. The 4x400 winning time was 4:11.36. The Gostomski's were joined by Lydia Ware and Acacia Barber in the relay. In the women's field events, Roberts grabbed the first three spots in the Javelin with Maya Pelayo winning with a throw of 36.35m. On the men's side, James Betts was a double winner with first place finishes in the 800m (2:00.06) and 1500m (3:59.46). The men's 4x400m relay team of Collin Webb, Ryan KarkerEvan Rogotzke and Jaxon Bunting placed first with a time of 3:41.10. Lunex Illozier had second place finishes in the 100m (11.41) and 200m (23.12). Roberts will be back on the track again on March 26 at the RIT Invitational.

Staten Island: The Dolphins outdoor track & field season gets underway on Saturday, March 26 at the Oscar Moore Invitational in Glassboro, N.J.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Track & Field program competed in Florida last week at the Ansin Invitational and St. Thomas University Bobcat 8-Way Meet. STAC returns to action on March 26 at the Lafayette University Open.
