ECC Outdoor Track & Field Report - Week Five

Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Eric Anderson, Molloy (So - West Hempstead, N.Y.)
Anderson finished second in the 400-meter hurdles at the Rider Invitational. The sophomore beat his own program record by almost a full second, running the race in 55.93 seconds. His time was also good for best in the ECC so far this season, 

Men's Field Athlete of the Week
Emmanuel Mena Jimenez, St. Thomas Aquinas (So - West Haverstraw, N.Y.)
At the East Stroudsburg All-American Meet, Mena Jimenez took a second place finish in the Discus with a throw of 51.13 meters, which also set an NCAA DII Provisional Mark. He also finished third in the hammer throw with a toss of 53.68 meters.

Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Dayna Thompson, Dist. Columbia (Fr - St. Mary, Jamaica)
Thompson ran 12.05s in the 100m finals at the Morgan State Legacy Meet, tying her ECC best mark. She was also on the 4x100m that placed fifth out of 10 with a time of 47.76s. 


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Men
Daniel Fuzailof, Queens (Sr - Queens, N.Y.)
Competing in the Pratt Dual Meet, Fuzailof placed first in three events as he earned first place in the 200M (23.21), 4x100 (45.05), and 4x400 (3:47.88). On Senior Day, the Queens native would set a new personal best in the 400m event with a time of 52.82 to pace the Knights.

Hakeem Griffiths, Queens (So - Portsmore, Jamaica)
Griffiths earned two first-place finishes at the Pratt Dual Meet as he finished first in the 4x100 relay (45.05) before setting a new personal best in the long jump event with a mark of 6.36m.

Jon Moote, Daemen (Jr - Wilson, N.Y.)
Moote ran the 5,000 meters for the first time this spring at the University at Buffalo Alumni Invitational and nearly set a school record. He placed sixth out of 25 runners and first among seven Daemen runners with a personal best time of 15:23.79. He knocked nine seconds off his previous best time (15:32.28) and came less than a second shy of breaking the school record of 15:23.41 set by Kevin Roginson in 2017.

James Polisena, St. Thomas Aquinas (So - Stony Point, N.Y.)
On the track, Polisena took victory in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase, clocking in at 11:07.59, and a 10th place finish in the 800 Meter Run with a time of 2:22.33. In the field events, the sophomore placed fourth in the Javelin event with a throw of 43.08 meters.

Women
Kayla Cooper, Dist. Columbia (Fr - Brooklyn, N.Y.)
Cooper ran 25.22s in the 200m, 12.27s in the 100m finals, and was also on the 4x100m at the Morgan State Legacy Meet. 

Fatima Morrobel, Queens (Jr - Long Beach, N.Y.)
Morrobel set a new personal best in the 400m event as she placed first with a time of 1:04.32 at the Pratt Dual Meet. 

Skylar Moreno, St. Thomas Aquinas (Gr - Congers, N.Y.) 
Moreno took a first place finish in the 400 Meter Hurdles, coming in with a time of 1:06.67. The graduate student also helped her 4x400 Meter Relay Team (Ciara Doyle, Isabella Esposito and Emma Neil) take victory, clocking in at 4:32.10.

Hannah Thomas, Daemen (Gr - Cheektowaga, N.Y.)
Thomas posted a personal best time in both the 800 and 5,000 meter runs while leading Daemen to a second place finish at the University at Buffalo Alumni Invitational. She placed first out of 28 runners in the 800 meters with a time of 2:21.07, which ranks as the third fastest time in the 800 in program history.just two seconds shy of the school record (2:19.62) set by Hannah Rice in 2015. Thomas would run the 5,000 meters for just the second time in her career and the first time since the 2021 season and posted a time of 20:20.87.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: Daemen took part in the University at Buffalo Alumni Invitational this past Saturday. The men placed second out of eight teams, while the women placed second out of nine. First place finishes by graduate student Hannah Thomas (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) in the 800 meters and junior Camryn Bailey (Geneva, N.Y.) in the 5,000 meters highlighted the day for the Daemen women. Top-10 efforts by juniors Jon Moote (Wilson, N.Y.) in the 5,000 meters and Connor O'Brien (Hamburg, N.Y.) in the 800 meters highlighted the day for the men Daemen. The Wildcats are idle until the ECC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 4.

District of Columbia: No team notes submitted.

Molloy: No team notes submitted.

Queens: Queens competed in the Pratt Dual Meet on Saturday which saw several Knights set new personal best. Queens opens the week competing in Penn Relays on Friday (Apr. 28) before ending the week competing in the Yale Springtime Invitational Sunday (Apr. 30) afternoon.

Roberts Wesleyan: Roberts competed at both the Jesse Owens Classic hosted by Ohio State University and the Otterbein Classic.

Staten Island: Outdoor Track & Field competed in the Misericordia Invitational on Friday. For the Dolphins, Jumps and Throws secured three top-five finishes in the meet, one of two remaining ahead of the conference championship.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Outdoor Track and Field team competed at the East Stroudsburg University All-American Meet in Pennsylvania last week. STAC returns to action on April 27-29 at Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
