ECC Outdoor Track & Field Report - Week Six

Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Ryan Karker, Roberts Wesleyan (Jr - Greece, N.Y.)
Karker came in first in the 400m (49.11) at the Otterbein Twilight Invitational and in sixth in the 800m (1:52.96) at the Jesse Owens Track Classic last week. His time in the 400m was the best in the event among all ECC competitors so far this season. 

Men's Track Athlete of the Week
DeAndre Smith, St. Thomas Aquinas (Sr - Brentwood, N.Y.)
Smith earned a first place finish in the High Jump, leaping 2.06 meters at the East Stroudsburg University All-American Meet last week. His mark also hit the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard.

Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Bailey Gostomski, Roberts Wesleyan (Sr - Cattaraugus, N.Y.)
Gostomski competed in the 800m and the 1500m at the Jesse Owens Track Classic at Ohio State last weekend. She came in 14th (second among DII competitors) in the 1500m, crossing the finish line in a time of 4:31.74, good for an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time. She also came in 17th in the 800m in a time of 2:15.78, good for second in the ECC this season.

Women's Field Athlete of the Week
Alyssa Amirato, Daemen (Fr - Depew, N.Y.)
Amirato took part in the long jump and the triple jump at an outdoor event for the first time in her collegiate career. She placed first among four Daemen entrants and third overall in the long jump with a leap of 4.75 meters. She would also place first among three Daemen entrants and fifth overall in the triple jump with a personal-best leap of 10.69 meters. That effort ranks as the third-best effort in the triple jump at an outdoor event in program history, just behind the program record of 10.78 meters set by Katja Meyer at the 2019 Dave Labor Invitational. It is also the top mark in the event among all ECC competitors so far this season.

ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Men
Andrew Drescher, St. Thomas Aquinas (So - Duanesberg, N.Y.)
Drescher earned a first place finish in the 800 Meter Run, clocking in at 1:57.38 at the East Stroudsburg University All-American Meet last week. He also placed fourth in the 4x400 Meter Relay (3:28.18) and fifth in the Javelin (44.21 meters).

Jake Elias, Daemen (Fr - Depew, N.Y.)
Freshman Jake Elias (Depew, N.Y.) was the top Daemen finisher in the shot put, discus throw, hammer throw, and javelin. Elias placed sixth in the shot put (10.63 meters), third in the discus (32.26 meters), third in the hammer (28.50 meters), and fourth in the javelin (39.42 meters). His efforts in the discus and hammer were personal bests.

Schnyder Germain, Molloy (Fr - Valley Stream, N.Y.)
Germain finished fifth in the 400-meter running a program-record time of 50.10 at the East Stroudsburg All-American Meet. He was also part of the 4x400, which set the program record (3:26.8).

Erik Matthews, Daemen (Sr - Galway, N.Y.)
Matthews posted a school record for the second time this spring, as he placed first among two entrants in the 400 meter hurdles with a program-record time of 56.43 seconds. His time today broke the program record of 57.25 that Matthews set last spring at the East Coast Conference Outdoor Championships. Matthews, who posted a time of 57.48 in this event earlier this year at the Geneseo Early Season Invitational, now owns the top seven times in program history for the 400-meter hurdles. Matthews also took part in the 110-meter hurdles and the long jump today. He placed second out of three entrants in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.50 seconds, which ranks as the third-fastest time in program history. He set the program record of 16.09 seconds at the Geneseo Early Season Invitational earlier this year. Matthews finished second out of six entrants in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 6.51 meters, which ranks as the fifth-best effort in program history.

Women
Marcy Colca, Daemen (Fr - Getzville, N.Y.)
Colca, who placed first and earned first-team All East Coast Conference honors in the 5,000 meters during the indoor season with a time of 17:45.10, ran the event for the first time at an outdoor event and cruised to a first place finish with a time of 17:38.12. She finished nearly a minute ahead of runner-up Riley Jones (18:27.94) of UB and posted the third fastest time in the 5,000 meters at an outdoor event in program history.

Iyanna Jackson, District of Columbia (Fr - Kingston, Jamaica)
Jackson had a stellar showing at the Morgan State Legacy Meet with season-best performances. She ran a school-record time of 12.00s in the 100m, which was the fastest Division II time of the meet. She ran another season-best time of 25.03s in the 200m and led off the 4x100m relay team, who ran a season-best time of 48.84s, both of which were the fastest Division II times of the meet.

Skyla Moreno, St. Thomas Aquinas (Sr - Congers, N.Y.)
Moreno earned a first place finish in the 5000 Meter Run, clocking in at 18:29.84 at the East Stroudsburg University All-American Meet last week. She also placed second in the 400 Meter Hurdles (1:07.10), sixth in the 4x400 Meter Relay (4:22.96), and sixth in the Triple Jump (10.09 meters).

Jenna Piller, Molloy (Jr - Middle Village, N.Y.)
Piller saw two top-five finishes, placing third in the 100-meter (12.62) and fourth in the 200-meter (25.91) at the East Stroudsburg All-American Meet.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: Daemen's track and field teams returned to action this past Saturday, April 23 at the University at Buffalo Invitational where both the men and women placed second in their respective team standings. The Daemen women got program record efforts from Kassandra Nolet (3,000 meter steeplechase) and Courtney Merril (1,500 meters) and first-place effort from Marcy Colca in the 5,000 meters to lead the way. Senior Erik Matthews eclipsed his own record in the 400 meter hurdles to pace the Daemen men. The Wildcats compete again this Saturday, April 30 at the University of Rochester Alumni Invitational. 

District of Columbia: The University of the District of Columbia's women's Outdoor Track and Field Team, had top performances at the Morgan State Legacy Meet. The day started with Kamille Dixon making her debut in the 3000m Steeplechase placing second with a time of 11:57.48. The team of Iyanna Jackson, Ayesha Jarrett, Christine Taylor, and Shanise Rose placed second in the 4x100m relay with a season-best time of 48.84s which was also the fastest Division II time of the meet. Jackson went on to run a school-record time of 12.00s in the 100m prelims to place ninth overall barely missing the finals. She also ran a season-best time of 25.03s in the 200m. Both times were the fastest Division II times of the meet and the fastest times in the ECC this season. Rose then ran a season-best time of 14.51s in the 100m hurdles to qualify for the finals. She then came in the finals to tie the school record of 14.36s, which was good for a fifth-place finish and the second-fastest Division II time of the meet. Rose's time is also the fastest time in the ECC this season. Jarrett ran a season-best time of 58.43s in the 400m, which was the second-fastest Division II time of the meet. She went on to run another seasonal best in the 200m with a time of 25.68s. The Firebirds are back in action next week as they head to Pennsylvania for the Penn Relays.

Molloy: The Lions ran at the ESU Red and Black Invite. Freshman Schnyder Germain finished fifth in the 400-meter running a program-record time of 50.10. The 4x400 team of Germain, freshman Juan Arango, senior John Fitzsimmons, and freshman Eric Anderson ran a program-record time of 3:26.38 to finish third. On the women's side, junior Jenna Piller saw two top-five finishes, placing third in the 100-meter (12.62) and fourth in the 200-meter (25.91), and junior Christi Weber crossed the line fourth running a personal best time of 59.84.

Queens: The Knights return to action after a two week break as they compete in the Penn Relays before competing in Jim Barber & Jack Maloney Tri-Meet hosted by SCSU Saturday (Apr. 30).

Roberts Wesleyan: No team notes submitted.

Staten Island: The Dolphins took part in the ESU All American Meet. In the 800-meter, Ahmed Khodir ran for a time of 2:02.06 which was good for ninth place. For the Men's 200-meter, Vincent Ohenhen came in 11th place with a time of 23.29. In the Women's 1500, Hailey Caruso placed 35th with a time of 6:19.12. In the women's shot-put event, Skylar Pointer placed 20th overall with a throw of 9.21m. She also came in 20th in women's hammer with a distance of 31.07m.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Track & Field team competed in the East Stroudsburg University All-American Meet last weekend. The Spartans are next in action at the United States Military Academy at West Point in their annual Twilight Meet on April 28.
