ECC Outdoor Track & Field Report - Week Three

Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Andrew Drescher, St. Thomas Aquinas (So - Duanesberg, N.Y.)
Drescher was outstanding in three running events and a field event at the Ramapo College Invitational. Drescher finished first in the 800 meters, logging a time of 1:58.03, and then helped his relay teams take fifth in the 4x400 (3:28.14) and second in the 4x800 (8:15.03). He also scored a second place finish in the Javelin, with a throw of 44.22 meters. His marks in the 4x400, 4x800, and javelin are all first among all ECC competitors so far this season, while his 800 time is second. 

Men's Field Athlete of the Week
Emmanuel Mena-Jimenez, St. Thomas Aquinas (Fr - West Haverstraw, N.Y.)
Mena-Jimenez had another outstanding set of performances for the Spartans at the Ramapo College Invitational. Mena-Jimenez finished second in the Shot Put with a throw of 14.03 meters, then took first place victories in both the Discus (50.03 meters) and Hammer Throw (51.14 meters). His marks in the hammer and discus are tops in the ECC so far this season. 

Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Shanise Rose, District of Columbia (Sr - Kingston, Jamaica)
Rose started off the two day Towson Invitational with a personal best time of 12.20 in the 100m, which was good for 11th out of a field of 44, and the fastest DII time of the meet. She also ran 25.84 in the 200m and 15.95 in the 100m hurdles, both of which were the second-fastest DII times of the meet. Her times in the 100m and 100m hurdles are the best in the ECC so far this season. 

Women's Field Athlete of the Week
Amanda Joseph, Queens (So - Queens Village, N.Y.)
At the Coach Omeltchenko Invitational, Joseph placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 20.64, while finishing second in the hammer with a throw of 33.78m, and third in javelin with a distance of 18.54m. Her mark in the hammer is the best in the ECC so far this season.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Men
Diego Folgado, Queens (Fr - Gandia, Spain)
Freshman Diego Folgado (Gandia, Spain) continued to shine in the men's 100m (11.45) and 200m (23.26) as he placed first in both events at the Coach Omeltchenko Invitational.

Ryan Karker, Roberts Wesleyan (Jr - Greece, N.Y.)
Karker finished in eighth place in the 800m at the Colonial Relays, finishing in a time of 1:51.65. It's the top ECC mark in the event so far this season. 

Erik Matthews, Daemen (Sr - Galway, N.Y.)
Matthews set new program records in the 110 meter hurdles twice, running 16.34 seconds in the qualifying heat and then 16.09 seconds in the finals, finishing fifth... he also placed second in the 400 meter hurdles - first among participating NCAA athletes - with a time of 57.48 seconds... Matthews now holds the top five times in program history for both hurdling distances... he also ran the opening leg of the 4x400 meter relay, helping Daemen place second among the eight competing teams.

Robert Skidmore, Queens (So - East Islip, N.Y.)
In the men's discus at the Coach Omeltchenko Invitational, senior Robert Skidmore placed first with a throw of 36.80m. In the shot put he placed second with a throw of 11.02m and fourth in the hammer with a throw of 32.49m.

Women
Abagail Gostomski, Roberts Wesleyan (Sr - Cattaraugus, N.Y)
Gostomski finished in sixth place in the 800m at the Colonial Relays with a time of 2:14.80. Her time is the best in the ECC so far this season. 

Abagaile Kimbrell, St. Thomas Aquinas (Gr - Monroe, N.Y.)
Abagaile Kimbrell excelled in a pair of long-distance running events at the Ramapo College Invitational. Kimbrell finished third in the 1500 meters, logging a time of 5:00.77, and then took second in the 5000 meter run in a time of 18:40.77.

Jenna Piller, Molloy (Jr - Middle Village, N.Y.)
Piller won the 100-meter running a time of 12.62, which is a program record. She also finished third in the 200-meter (26.05) at the TCNJ Invite.

Kailee Vaseghi, Molloy (Jr - Oceanside, N.Y.)
Vaseghi placed second in the High Jump with a leap of 1.55m at the TCNJ Invitational.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: Daemen opened their outdoor season at the Geneseo Early Season Invitational this past Saturday. Erik Matthews set a new program record in the 110 meter hurdles, placing fifth with a time of 16.34 seconds, and also placed second in the 400 meter hurdles (57.48 seconds). Jon Moote placed ninth in the 5,000 meters with a personal-best time of 15:32.28. On the women's side, distance runners Courtney Merrill and Kassandra Nolet paced the Wildcats. Merrill placed sixth in the 1,500 meters (4:50.23) while Nolet finished seventh in the same event (4:52.64). Daemen returns to action this Saturday at the UB Spring Opener.

District of Columbia: The University of the District of Columbia's women's Outdoor Track and Field team had a weekend full of season and personal best performances. Shanise Rose ran a personal-best time of 12.20s in the 100m, placing 11th out of a field of 44. Her time was the fastest DII time of the meet. Chacoia Wilkes ran a personal best time of 1:10.06 in the 400m hurdles which was the second-fastest DII time of the meet. Kamille Dixon finished out the day with a season-best time of 5:04.69 in the 1500m run, which was also the fastest DII time of the meet. Ayesha Jarrett continued the trend for the Firebirds running the fastest Division II time in the 400m with a time of 59.49s, which was good for 12th out of a field of 53 other runners. Dixon came back to run a personal best time of 2:22.81 in the 800m. Iyanna Jackson sped her way to a season-best time of 25.19s in the 200m, which was the 6th fastest time out of a field of 74 other runners, and the fastest DII time of the meet. Rose also had a strong showing, running just shy of a PR with 25.84s- the second-fastest DII time behind her teammate. Jarrett, Dixon, Jackson, and Fanta Sanogo teamed up for the 4x400m relay to wrap up the weekend with their fastest relay time of the year 4:06.67. Next up, the Firebirds will compete at the Gallaudet Invitational next Saturday in DC.

Molloy: The Molloy men's and women's track and field teams competed at the TCNJ Invitational Saturday, April 2. Freshman Eric Anderson won the 400-hurdle with a time of 59.23. In the 3000-steeplechase, freshman Frank Ferrante topped the field with a time of 10:40.54. Junior Jenna Piller won the 100-meter running a time of 12.62, which is a program record. She also finished third in the 200-meter (26.05). Freshman Antonette Pommells recorded two top-five finishes. Placing third in the 100-meter (12.99), and fifth in the 200-meter (26.38).

Queens: Head coach Robert Davis and the Knights return to action on Saturday (Apr. 9) as they compete in the Wilton Wright Invitational hosted by Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, Conn.

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts track and field team competed at the Colonial Relays hosted by the College of Williams & Mary in Williamsburg, Va. The team will be back on the track again on Friday at the University of Rochester Spring Invite.

Staten Island: The College of Staten Island Men's & Women's Outdoor Track & Field teams competed in their second event of the season in Ewing, N.J. CSI took part in the College of New Jersey Invitational against several other colleges. CSI participated in 11 events in total; six of which recorded new school & personal best records. Next up they will participate in the WCU Golden Ram Invitational.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Track & Field Team competed at the Ramapo College Invitational last week with the men's team finishing first and the women's squad third. STAC returns to action on April 12 at the Misericordia University Twilight in Dallas, Pa.
