ECC Outdoor Track & Field Report - Week Four

Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Eric Anderson, Molloy (Fr - West Hempstead, N.Y.)
Anderson won the 400m hurdles in a time of 56.71 at the Ursinius College Outdoor Invitational. His time is the best in the ECC in the event so far this season. 

Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Jenna Piller, Molloy (Jr - Middle Village, N.Y.)
Piller broke her own school record in the 100-meter at the Ursinius College Outdoor Invitational, running a time of 12.32 to win the event. She was also a member of the 4x400 (4:07.05), which set a program mark and won, and the 4x100 squad that won gold with a time of 49.35.

Women's Field Athlete of the Week
Paige Pavelski, Daemen (So - East Aurora, N.Y.)
Pavelski was the top Daemen finisher in both the shot put and the discus throw at the UB Spring Opener. She placed third overall with a toss of 10.52 meters in the shot put and fifth in the discus (27.28 meters).


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Men
Erik Matthews, Daemen (Sr - Galway, N.Y.)
Matthews picked up where he left off last weekend when he set a new program record in the 110 meter hurdles. Today it was the 400 meter hurdles, as he placed first among two entrants with a program record time of 58.17 seconds. His time today broke the program record of 57.25 that Matthews set last spring at the East Coast Conference Outdoor Championships. Matthews, who posted a time of 57.48 in this event last weekend at the Geneseo Early Season Invitational, now owns the top six times in program history for the 400 meter hurdles.

Jon Moote, Daemen (So - Wilson, N.Y.)
Moote, who turned in a solid effort during the 5,000 meter run last weekend, placed 12th out of 40 runners in the 3,000 meters today with a program-record time of 9:04.13?20 seconds faster than the previous standard set by Jeremy Rushok (9:24.05) at the 2015 Coastal Carolina Invitational. It marked the first time that Moote has run the 3,000 meters at an outdoor event during his brief collegiate career. Moote now owns both the indoor and outdoor program record for the 3,000 meters, as he posed a program-record time of 9:04.55 at the Kane Invitational this past January.

Njehan Phillip, Queens (Gr - Brooklyn, N.Y.)
Phillip earned a career-best time of 4:18.94 in the Men's 1500m, good for a 15th place finish (sixth among DII competitors).

Women
Marcy Colca, Daemen (Fr - Getzville, N.Y.)
Colca, who earned first-team All East Coast Conference honors in the 3,000 meters during the indoor season, ran the event for the first time at an outdoor event and placed sixth out of 31 runners with a school record time of 10:25.62. The time was two seconds faster than the previous standard of 10:27.92 set by Ashley Cheff at the 2016 University at Buffalo Open.

Iyanna Jackson, District of Columbia (Fr - Kingston, Jamaica)
Jackson went for the double at the Gallaudet Invitational, running her first 100m this season winning with a time of 12.41s. She then went on to win the 200m with a time of 25.78s.

Khareena Primus, Queens (Fr - St. Andrew, Grenada)
Primus led the way for the Knights at the Wilton Wright Invitational as she finished first in the Women's 100M with a time of 12.56. She would continue her day with a second-place finish in the Women's 200M with a time of 25.83.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: Daemen's track and field teams were in action at the UB Spring Opener this past Friday afternoon. The Wildcat women placed fourth out of nine competing teams and were led by freshman Marcy Colca who broke the program record in the 3,000 meters while placing sixth. On the men's side, Daemen placed third out of seven competing teams while getting record-breaking performances from Erik Matthews (400 meter hurdles) and Jon Moote (3,000 meters).

District of Columbia: The University of the District of Columbia's women's Outdoor track and field team competed at the Gallaudet Invite hosted by Gallaudet University, Saturday on their campus. Iyanna Jackson went for the double, winning both the 100m and 200m. She ran a season-best time of 12.41s in the 100m finals and 25.78s in the 200m. Kamille Dixon placed third in the 1500m running a personal best time of 4:59.22, shaving almost six seconds off of her time from last week. She went on to place second in the 3000m with a time of 11:13.95, which was followed by the 800m which she also placed second in with a time of 2:31.23. ECC Track Athlete of the week Shanise Rose won the 100m hurdles running a season-best time of 15.37s, which is the best in the ECC this season. She placed second behind Jackson in the 100m finals with a time of 12.56s and third in the 200m with a time of 26.57s. Christine Taylor ran a personal best time of 1:13.28 in the 400m hurdles shaving off eight seconds from her time last week. Next up, the Firebirds head back to Maryland on the 23rd, to compete in the Morgan State Legacy Meet. 

Molloy: Molloy ran at the Ursinus College Invitational Saturday, April 9. Junior Jenna Piller broke the school record in the 100-meter that she set at the TCNJ invite. Running a time of 12.32 to win the event. The 4x100 team of freshman Savannah James, McCaffery, Piller and Pomells earned gold crossing the line in 49.35. The Lions also finished atop the board in the 4x400, junior Christi Weber, Meaghan O'Callaghan, Piller, and Pommells finished with a time of 4:07.05, which was a program record. In the 400-meter, freshmen Juan Arango (50.83) and Schnyder Germain (51.14) placed third and fourth, respectively.

Queens: The Knights are off until April 28th as they prepare for the West Point Twilight hosted by Army West Point.

Roberts Wesleyan: No team notes submitted.

Staten Island: The College of Staten Island Men's & Women's Outdoor Track & Field teams competed in their third event of the season in West Chester, Pa. CSI took part in the WCU Golden Ram Invitational against several other colleges. CSI participated in 10 events in total; four of which recorded new school & personal best records.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Track & Field Team had the week off last week and will return to action on April 12 at the Misericordia University Twilight in Dallas, Pa.
