ECC Men's Soccer Report - Week Seven

Offensive Player of the Week
Leo Pinto, Queens (Senior, Forward - Forest Hills, N.Y.)
Pinto recorded a five-point day in ECC play with two goals and a helper in Queens’ 4-3 victory over Roberts Wesleyan. Pinto began the night with an assist (1’) and a goal (39’) in the first half before notching his first match-winning goal of the year (58’). The win moves Queens into fourth in the ECC standings with nine points.

Defensive Co-Player of the Week
Sergio Becerra, District of Columbia (Junior, Goalkeeper - Vizcaya/Spain)
Becerra allowed just one goal vs. 13 saves in UDC’s pair of matches last week, making seven saves in a 1-0 loss to Lock Haven and making six saves for his third conference shutout of the year in a 2-0 win over D’Youville.

 

Defensive Co-Player of the Week
Julian Holland, Mercy (Junior, Back - Tokyo, Japan)
Holland had a team-high three points on the week with a goal and an assist. The Mercy junior scored the Mavericks’ lone goal against Wilmington and assisted on the match-winning goal (61’) in Mercy's 1-0 win over Molloy. The ECC win over Molloy gives Mercy 14 total conference points to sit atop the league standings. 

Rookie of the Week
Andrew Johnson, Queens (Freshman, Midfielder - Oakdale, N.Y.)
In two matches last week, Johnson tallied five points with two goals and one assist. In Queens’ 4-3 loss to Adelphi, Johnson tallied an assist (42’) and a goal (48’) before scoring his third goal of the year (8’) in the Knights’ 4-3 ECC victory over Roberts Wesleyan. The win moves Queens into fourth in the ECC standings with nine points.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Harry Cooke, Queens (Sophomore, Forward - Market Drayton, England)
Cooke recorded his second five-point week of the year with two goals and one assist over two matches last week. The Queens sophomore scored a goal in the Knights’ 4-3 loss to Adelphi before tallying his team-leading seventh goal and his third assist of the season in the 4-3 ECC victory over Roberts Wesleyan.

Isaiah Daniel, District of Columbia (Freshman, Midfielder - Kent, Rochester, England)
Daniel scored the Firebirds’ insurance goal in their 2-0 win over D'Youville.

Kevon Evans, St. Thomas Aquinas (Junior, Forward - Ossining, N.Y.)
Evans scored his team-leading ninth goal of the season and also added an assist in STAC’s 2-0 victory over Staten Island. The junior forward leads the ECC in points (25) and ranks second in assists (7) and third in goals (9).

Calle Olle Petter Gunnarsson, St. Thomas Aquinas (Freshman, Goalkeeper - Stockholm, Sweden)
Gunnarsson stopped all five shots faced in STAC's 2-0 victory over Staten Island. The freshman goalkeeper remains a perfect 7-0-3 in 12 matches played for the Spartans.

Johannes Hanken Tjostheim, Mercy (Sophomore, Forward - Aalesund, Norway)
Hanken Tjostheim scored the match-winning goal in the 61st minute in Mercy's 1-0 win over Molloy.
