ECC Men's Soccer Report - Week One

Offensive Player of the Week
Johannes Hanken Tjostheim, Mercy (Sophomore - Forward, Aalesund, Norway)
Tjostheim posted a match-high five points on two goals and one assist in Mercy's win over Saint Rose on Saturday as the Mavericks won their eighth consecutive home opener dating back to 2015. The sophomore assisted on the opening goal in the 14th minute and scored in the 23rd minute to give the Mavericks a 2-0 lead. With the match tied 2-2 early in the second half, Tjostheim found the lower-right corner of the net in the 53rd minute for what would end up serving as the match-winning goal. In two matches on the weekend, Tjostheim took eight shots, all on target.

Defensive Player of the Week
Amari Thompson, Staten Island (Sophomore - Goalkeeper, Brooklyn, N.Y.)
Thompson posted a clean sheet in the Dolphins' win over Bloomfield on Thursday, making three saves in the full 90:00 to mark the second consecutive season in which Thompson has blanked the Bears. The sophomore went on to make two more saves vs. two goals allowed on 11 shots faced against Assumption on Sunday. Thompson finished the week with five saves and a 71.4% save percentage.

Co-Rookie of the Week
Elijah Douglas, Daemen (Freshman - Forward, Clarence, N.Y.)
After playing 37 minutes in his collegiate debut at Walsh on Thursday, Douglas earned the starting nod at Malone on Saturday and didn't waste any time making an impact as the freshman scored twice, including the match-winner, in a 3-1 victory. Douglas scored the first two goals of the match, in the 6th and 18th minutes, and totaled a team-high four shots over his first two matches in 104 minutes of action.

Co-Rookie of the Week
Miguel Espinosa, Staten Island (Junior - Forward, Panama City, Panama)
In his NCAA debut, Espinosa scored the fourth and final Dolphins' goal in Staten Island's win over Bloomfield. The freshman then went on to score twice more on Sunday against Assumption. Of his seven shot attempts this week, three found the back of the net, and both of his goals against the Greyhounds on Sunday were match-tying goals in the second half.
