ECC Men's Soccer Report - Week Six

Offensive Player of the Week
Johannes Hanken Tjostheim, Mercy (Sophomore, Forward - Aalesund, Norway)
Hanken Tjostheim scored a team-high three goals across two matches last week. The Mavericks sophomore had two goals, including the match-winning goal, in Mercy's 4-0 win over regionally-ranked Millersville and ended the week with Mercy’s lone goal in a 1-1 draw at St. Thomas Aquinas; the point from that draw puts Mercy atop the ECC standings.

Defensive Co-Player of the Week
Eirik Elvestad, Mercy (Junior, Goalkeeper - Oslo, Norway)
Elvestad went 1-0-1 in goal with seven saves, a .875 save percentage, and a 0.50 goals against average across two matches last week. The junior opened the week with one save to earn the shutout in Mercy's win over Millersville, setting a new school record with his 16th career shutout in the win. The goalkeeper ended the week with a match-high six saves vs. just one goal allowed in the 1-1 draw at St. Thomas Aquinas; that point puts Mercy atop the ECC standings. 

 

Defensive Co-Player of the Week
Dennis Mejia, Molloy (Senior, Goalkeeper - Oyster Bay, N.Y.)
Mejia made 15 saves in a 1-0-1 week for Molloy. The senior stopped seven shots to secure a 1-1 draw at Assumption before making a season-high eight saves in a 2-1 win over Daemen to earn the team its critical first conference win of 2023.

Rookie of the Week
Isaiah Daniel, District of Columbia (Freshman, Midfielder - Rochester, Kent, England)
Daniel headed in the equalizer (24') in UDC's 2-1 victory over regionally-ranked Queens to give the Firebirds their second ECC win of the season.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Sergio Becerra, District of Columbia (Junior, Goalkeeper - Barakaldo/Vizcaya/Spain)
Becerra made five saves in UDC's 2-1 win over Queens. His only goal allowed on the day was a penalty earlier in the first half, after which he held the Knights scoreless for the remainder of the match. 

Kevon Evans, St. Thomas Aquinas (Junior, Forward - Ossining, N.Y.)
Evans continued his impressive season with a goal and assist in two matches last week, scoring in St. Thomas Aquinas’ 3-2 win over GCU and assisting on the Spartan’s lone goal in a 1-1 draw against Mercy. 

Santiago Gordillo Martinez, District of Columbia (Junior, Forward - Lima, Peru)
Gordillo Martinez assisted on the equalizer and scored the match-winning goal in the Firebirds’ 2-1 victory over regionally-ranked Queens to move up to third place in conference standings. 

Adolfo Martinez Paquet, Queens (Senior, Midfielder - Sevilla, Spain)
Martinez Paquet recorded a five-point week with two goals and one assist. In the comeback draw against American Invitational in regional play, Paquet began the rally with a goal before finishing the night with a key assist off a corner kick. Against District of Columbia, Martinez Paquet scored for his third goal of the year.

Mathias Schilbred-Eriksen, Mercy (Sophomore, Back - Bergen, Norway)
Schilbred-Eriksen recorded an assist off a corner kick in Mercy's win over Millersville on Wednesday and helped lead a Mercy backline that allowed just one goal across two matches against regionally-ranked teams in the Mavericks’ 1-0-1 week.
